Dog of the Day: Isobel the Australian Kelpie/American Eskimo Dog/Pharaoh Hound

Really? American Eskimo dog? If that’s the result of one of those genetic dog scan things, then color me highly skeptical. If it’s knowledge of the dog’s parents, color me surprised. Even without the Eskie, though, kelpie/pharaoh hound is a pretty unusual combination.

I just wish I’d gotten some more (and better!) pictures. Isobel’s really cute, but I don’t think the pics really do her justice. Oh well… they can’t all be winners. (And, in case it isn’t clear, I mean ‘my photographs’, not ‘the dogs’. All Dogs of San Francisco are winners.)

I do make some dogs uncomfortable. Sorry, Isobel!

Caught mid-bark. Also, I like the spotty-cow-belly effect.

One of my dogs, Chamois, is part American Eskimo. The delightful thing about the breed is that she has no doggie odors. None. Something about not wanting gamey smells in the igloos. Seriously.

Next time I see an Eskie I’m going to give him or her a good sniff. Hopefully the owner is a native San Franciscan… because if so, he or she has surely seen much weirder things than me sniffing a dog.
