Dog of the Day: Entlebucher Sennenhund

I saw this pup on Polk Street, and naturally thought she was someone I’d seen before, since I ran into that dog (Zurich) on Polk, about two blocks away. I remembered Zurich being a little skittish so I didn’t approach, which was probably good. I took these pictures from about 20 feet away, with a zoom lens, which was also probably good, because she got scared just from me looking in his direction and started barking at me.

Poor gal. It must be rough living in a city if you’re that nervous around people.

I had to actually put up a couple pictures next to one another to convince myself that this was not, in fact, Zurich.

Another person, 15 feet away, coming out the front door of Lombardi sports. Poor pup.

I retreated even further once she got all barky. I guess I don’t have a good enough feel for some dogs’ personal space just yet.

This guy looks as lazy as I feel. I can’t believe I just forgot to queue a dog up for you guys for today. I’ve been doing this every day for three and a half YEARS. You’d think I’d remember these things by now.

It was nice and cool and crisp. This pup was obviously enjoying his sun shower tremendously.

Dog of the Day: Panda the Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppy

Panda is six months old in these pictures (and seven, now) and utterly ridiculous.

Panda looks terribly demure in this picture. Do not believe this for a second.

This is what happens if you do. (Or if you don’t. Or if you hold still for about 8 seconds. Or if you don’t.)

Look at that face. Butter would not melt in that mouth. (Because it would be well on its way to that tummy, I’m sure!)

The little head tilt just adds another tenth of a percent of adorability to an already adorable pup.

Dog of the Day: Willow the Schnauzer/Mexican Hairless Mix

I think the breed mix is an educated guess by the owner, but it looks logical to me. Willow was a LA street dog for a while, but was adopted a few years back. She’s six now, and has settled into her new life rather well.

Unusual ears. Don’t see ones with that one little fold in them very often.

Dog of the Day: Tucker the Border Collie Mix

I didn’t get any perfect pictures of Tucker, but I just had to post a picture because of the story behind his name. It seems that when he was a puppy, he would run and play and just in general be so enthusiastic about his walks that he would just collapse, utterly tuckered out, afterwards. So cute!

Tucker’s 10 now, but he’s still pretty wiggly and enthusiastic. Enough so that he’s hard to photograph.

Dog of the Day: Duchess the Diabetes Alert Dog in Training

I’m at the Maker Fair today, and forgot to post something from home, so y’all get a little something live from the fair: Duchess the 5-month-old standard poodle. She is in training for an important job, and I think she’s doing just fine. Even if she does get a little tuckered out sometimes.

Dog of the Day: Gertie the Miniature Dachshund Puppy

I am devastated. I took a bunch of pictures of the most adorable little toy Australian shepherd, Sadie. And every single one of them turned out blurry. Every single one! But I promised that I would link to her glorious Facebook page here, and so I have. Perhaps I’ll run into her again sometime, and can try to get a few more pictures.

Fortunately, I found someone who was willing and able to console me after this terrible experience. Gertie, a 4-month-old dachshund puppy who absolutely adores having her picture taken, cheered me right back up. And despite her extremely wiggly nature, I think you’ll agree that her pictures came out just fine.

This is the one second that Gertie stood still. (Also, check out that funny-looking shadow!)

Those concerned forehead-wrinkles do it to me every time. Also, you gotta love the little collar-flower. (Ugh. Is that an intentional pun, I wonder?)

What a sweet little face.

All right, Gertie, mission accomplished. I’m all cheered up.

Apparently that coloration is called ‘blue fawn’. Never heard of that before. Also… those EARS…

Wow, lots of dog goings-on in the next few weeks.

Sunday, May 19th: ‘Animals on Broadway‘ Walnut Creek, Broadway Plaza. Pet walk, adoptable dogs, best-dressed pet contest, owner-pet lookalike contest, vendors, and so forth. All for a good cause: fundraising for Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation.

Thursday, May 23: ‘Marina Pooch and Pinot‘. San Francisco, Chestnut at Laguna, Moscone Playground, behind the bleachers. Meet and greet for dog lovers in the area.

Sunday, June 2: The ‘Million Dog March‘ which I have already mentioned. No dog owner should even dream of missing this. (Seriously? The biggest dog walk in the world is about to happen in your back yard. How could you not want to get in on that?)

Dog of the Day: Cricket the Irish Setter

Our second Irish setter! Cricket (I love that name) is just barely ten years old, and still zipping around.

They really are beautiful dogs.

When I was younger, I had mid-back-length hair, and the wind used to blow it into my mouth. I can only imagine what it’s like to have the wind blowing your EARS into your mouth.

I’m adding ‘Cricket’ to my list of possible dog names. Too cute.
