Dog of the Day: Juno the Weimaraner/German Shepherd MixL

Autumn and I stopped by Mountain Lake Park, in the Inner Richmond, last weekend, in the hopes of seeing the monthly corgi meetup group there. Alas, we must have come too late (although we got there at about 1:50 and it starts at 1!) because we saw no corgis. What we saw instead was an interesting assortment, including Lilah from yesterday, and this fine two-year-old Weimaraner mix.

Someone has a bit of a ball fixation. And a big goofy 'I'M AT THE PARK!' grin.

Juno liked it under that bench. Even though she clonked her head on it several times.

Funny: you can tell she got a lot of her muzzle shape from the German shepherd part, but her ear is 100% pure Weimaraner. (If Weimaraners were about ten times as big as they are, their ears would make lovely blankets. Although they'd be pretty expensive to feed.)

She doesn't have 'down ears'... she has 'up and down and back and forth and all over the place' ears.

Dog of the Day: Lilah the Husky (With a Dash of Timber Wolf)

Lilah’s a thirteen-year-old Husky, with just enough timber wolf (from three or four generations back) to make her even more awesome.

She’s a lover, though, not a fighter. And quite dignified. And gorgeous.

Funny, she looks a surprising amount like a collie.

Got twelve pictures of Lilah. Four of them, she was blinking.

Someone deserves a smooch right between the ears.

Dog of the Day: Nino the Ibizan Hound Mix

Nino! I would not have guessed Ibizan hound, but once they told me it was obvious. Apparently he’s a rescued Taiwanese street dog, rescued when he was a puppy. He’s 1 year old now, and settling into his new life quite well, although he is still a wee bit skittish.

He's got the 'canine sprawl' down pat.

Gotta love that expression.

Hooray for spotty puppy belly.

Caturday Supplement: Macy’s Kitty

Someone lost half a tail.

Yellow eyes plus black facial markings makes for a rather grumpy-looking cat.

I like the little down-arrow nose.

Lennox was a bad dog. You can tell, can’t you? (I have no idea what the little guy is.)

I can't remember what he did, but I'm sure it was just *terrible*.

Boxers are well-equipped for the 'puppydog eyes' routine.

Eventually his parents decided he'd learned his lesson (or forgotten what he did, either way) and let him come play with me.

Dog of the Day: Olive the Maltese/Poodle Mix

Olive is in her terrible twos. Which in her case means that she always wants to sit at the big people table and participate in the conversation.

She was quite an obedient dog, actually. Stuck to the chair pretty reliably, despite temptation.

She also, astonishingly enough, was more interested in me than she was in the food on mom's table.

Olive is a kisser. It's amazing her tongue isn't worn down to a nub.

Not even sure what that expression is.

Her biggest failing seems to be a bit of difficulty with spacial relations.

She just didn't seem to be able to figure out that her tongue wasn't long enough to lick me from there.

Dog of the Day: Dezi the Australian Shepherd Puppy

Two tailless wonders in a row. Dezi is 12 weeks old, and his cuteness is overwhelming.

Yes, that fur is every bit as soft as you think it is.

If you don't see the lack of a tail, they kind of look like little baby Berners.

Puppies are so distractible.

Dog of the Day: Walter the Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Well, what have we here? Another corgi that Autumn and I haven’t run into yet. How could that have happened?

Walter is 1.5 years old, and still a puppy. Well, of course he is… he’s a corgi!

Walter is — hmm, how shall I put this? — not 100% down with the whole 'leash etiquette' thing.

Vicious corgi assault! I noticed his dad wears sandals. I wonder how often he gets his toes licked?

This instantly goes into my folder of 'favorite pictures.' Walter is an adorable goof.

Someday I will meet a standoffish corgi. Someday. But definitely not today.

The patented corgi grin finally shows itself.

It's a magic trick: corgis can make their ears disappear.

Okay, okay, you can come to work with me. Heck, you can bring your dad along if you have to.
