Poppy was my pooch. I remember this picture taken at Huntington Park in Nob Hill. The leash was her original puppy leash which is chewed up. She was half coyote, plus shepherd mix. She was born to a litter of six pups, of which she was one of 2 coydogs. I adopted her from the Marin SPCA. The rancher who brought her in wrote a wonderful assessment of her as a 6 month puppy that encapsulated her beauty, intelligence, obedience and remarkable athleticism. Poppy was simply amazing. Planes, crowded buses, hotels, casinos, racetracks, subways trains, boats, even a ferris wheel (my friend) anywhere anyone who handled her…she was companion, guide and protector. Nothing bothered her except whatever needed to be alerted to.
She was my companion for ten years. I miss her. She died in my arms at home December 5, 2018.
I am so sorry to hear that. I remember running into her multiple times, always at Huntingdon Park; she was one of dogs I saw that, out of tens of thousands, I could spot and name from a block away. She was a friend to everyone and everything.
You’re a lucky man to have had such an awesome pup. RIP, Poppy!
