Dog of the Day AND Roll of 28+1: Baloo/Romeo Redux

What? Picture? Sure, sure. Sorry. We’re distracted by the delicious smells coming from that restaurant.

German Shepherd/Corgi Mix and Yorkshire Terrier

Someone recently hypothesized in the comments that Baloo is part Swedish Vallhund. Could be, although that wouldn’t explain the floppy ears. I don’t even care, I just want to hug him.

OMG! My 5 month old pup looks just like him only with dark coat and only the left ear flopped! And i was too, wondering what breeds she may be crossed and i came out with two possibilities german shepherd/corgi or german shepherd/vallhund. Anyways I LOVE HER!

    • Adam Lang says:

Oh god, one-ear-floppage may be the only thing that could make this dog even MORE awesome.

Do you have any pictures? If so, could you post a link? I’d love to see!

I have 2 brothers and they are 9 months now. One looks just like your dog and the other one is black and tan. I was told they are German Shepherd lab mix. I dont see it and I am still trying to figure it out..lol..either way love them both..They did come from a German Shepherd breeder.

    • Adam Lang says:

Naw, you’re absolutely right: if they have legs that short, they have to be at least partly one of the ‘squat’ breeds: corgi, vallhund, basset, dachshund, field spaniel, etc.

Do you have any pictures of your pups online? Autumn and I could take a look and see if we have any guesses for you.

  3. chana says:

My dog is not that short..he is a German shepherd height although he looks almost identical to your dog..look me up on facebook if you want..Chana Johnson..(Ohio) I have pictures on my page of both of the boys. Just crazy how much he looks like mine other than height.

    • Adam Lang says:

Oh, neat. I will totally check him out. Except it turns out there are four Chana Johnsons from Ohio on Facebook, and I have no idea which one you are. I took a quick peek and didn’t see any dog pictures in any of their albums, either. So confusing! (But then again, if you google search for ‘Adam Lang’ you get a fictional character and a Republican from Philadelphia, not me, so I guess you’re hardly the only one with that problem.)

My dog looks excectly the same!! Its just not possible (: he is a romanian dog, he had been there when he was a puppy and we found him on the internet when he was 6 months.. We really don’t know what kind of dogg he is. We thought he is from a corgi with german shepherd aa know what kind he is but he is sppop sweet (:nd golde n retriever.. I dont know how i can post a picture of hm on this site, ):

I’d love to see him. Here’s a good way of posting a picture:

      Go to http://imgur.com/
Under ‘Upload images’ in the upper right hand corner, click ‘computer’
Select the image that you want to upload.
In the resulting pop-up window, click the ‘Start Upload’ button.
The picture should show up after a minute.
In the right-hand column, there’ll be a line that says ‘Direct Link (email & IM)’. Copy the URL from that line (should look like http://i.imgur.com/blahblahblah.jpg) and paste it in a comment.
Bam! Link to picture of your dog!

  6. mischa says:

This isn’t the best picture of him, but the best i could find so quik.. http://m.imgur.com/YNAZAtC

  7. mischa says:

His noise is less black, and his ears go forward sometimes instead of backward like the dog in the picture,

  8. mischa says:

Here is another picture of him http://m.imgur.com/AScJTH8

  9. mischa says:

Haha how is it possible, do you know from what kind of dogs baloo is?

    • Adam Lang says:

There’s been a lot of speculation about that, mostly on this page. The two competing theories are that he’s half Swedish vallhund and half German shepherd (which doesn’t explain the slightly flopped ears), and another that he’s a German shepherd/dachshund cross. I’m not honestly sure, myself… he does look an awful lot like a vallhund, but those slightly flopped ears strongly suggest that one of the parents had ‘down’ ears.

If you ever get a genetic test done on your dog, post the results here! For science!

  10. mischa says:

    My dog marley got his ears forward, we always say the look like the ears of shrek from the movie, and a year ago he had them sometimes backwards, just like baloo, his pasport saids he is a dashhund mix but that is very unlikely she just geust and rode it down in his pasport… W he always thougt he was from a corgi, cause i never heard of a vallhund, but he really is my hero, i love him soo much (;

  11. mischa says:

Its too bad that baloo is in san fransisco, i really wanna know what they look like next to eachother

  12. Lisa says:

He looks like my puppy! https://si0.twimg.com/profile_images/378800000283670864/9a40a26232aafa48fe45b3d9734b87be.jpeg
Except Gus has more German Shepherd type ears. When we adopted him, they told us he’s an Alaskan Husky mix…

  13. Jj says:

It’s a corgi chow chow mix
