Dog of the Day: Malia the Samoyed

I don’t know, I just don’t know. I’ve seen quite a few Samoyeds in my time, and I’ve never seen one quite like Malia. Her coloration is a little darker than any I’ve seen before. (I’m not sure if it conforms to AKC or not… apparently they can be ‘biscuit’ colored, but it doesn’t appear that anyone is willing to define biscuit coloration.) I thought her proportions were a little off too, but the more I look at the pictures, and at pictures online of Samoyeds, the more I realize that I’m on crack. Oh, and that I’m wrong about the proportions, too.

That said, she’s ADORABLE! And fluffy and cute and cuddly and happy and just about everything you could want a dog to be. Except ours. Le sigh.

Oh, by the way, I’ve included my first ‘dog rap’ in the hovertext for the photos. Please take any criticism out and bury it in the yard. And I’ve now stuck five of the six pictures below the break.

Samoyed

Malia was super-photogenic. Sadly, her parents weren't as well trained, since they stood in her light in just about every photo.

Samoyed, Biscuit Coloration

Well, ALMOST perfectly photogenic. She did blink once.

She has whiskers above her eyes! How awesome is that?

Little tiny bit of tongue peeking out there.

Dad's shadow. Also, she has gorgeous chocolate-brown eyes.

Look at that expression. She looks like she's really looking forward to something.

Malia is maybe a little smaller than average for a samoyed. They are usually somewhere between 40 and 60 pounds, full-grown. They look bigger, though, because of all the fluff!

Oh, man, I have no idea. But there are a fair number of samoyed breeders out there. I just don’t know anything about any of ’em.
