I won’t say that Ani (pronounced like Annie) is the oldest dog I’ve ever featured on here, but she’s pretty close. And she’s still doing all right… still got her eyesight, and teeth, and such. She’s an Indian Spitz, which I’d never even heard of until I took these pictures.
Still plenty of time to get those photography contest entries in by the 30th of June.
The ears are really something. Trust me: their full grandeur has not yet been revealed.
I swear Ani studied photography and composition. I didn’t crop this picture at all, and she was the one who framed herself. Perfectly, I might add. (Also: see what I mean about the ears?)
More ridiculous earage.
Another good pose: ‘noble dog before loving master.’ I wish I’d stepped back a bit and gotten them both in the frame.
Hello! I was wondering how this owner knows that Ani is an indian spitz? I have a dog that looks almost identical to Ani, but we can’t find any information on the breed. There are a lot of Chiweenis that look like our dog, too.
Thanks!
Becca
Actually, I’m not sure how they know. I just ran into Ani again about two weeks ago (so she’s still alive and kicking, at 17 years!) but I didn’t ask how they knew the breed.
However, I can tell you one thing: Ani is definitely not a chi-weenie. She’s a fair bit bigger than the biggest chihuahua or dachshund that I’ve met, and her legs are improbably long for a dachshund mix. And, given her age, and having looked at the pictures of Indian spitzes I’ve found on the internet, she definitely looks like she fits pretty well into the breed.
Well my dog looks exactly like Ani, he has long legs. But I just can’t find enough information to be 100% that he is an Indian Spitz and I don’t know of any DNA tests that test for that breed! Thank you for the reply, I will just have to keep digging! 🙂
Do you have any pictures? I’d be quite interested to see one, if you’d be willing to post them online and put a link in the comments.

Let me know if you can see those. I set them to public! He is right under 18″ tall.
He’s adorable! I have no idea what he is, but he is super cute, and the little bow tie is just freakin’ perfect.
