Site News: Someone Please Adopt This Dog?

Even a foster home would be wonderful. She’s such a sweetheart, I can’t imagine how anyone came to the conclusion that she was unadoptable. No aggression, and she takes around 30 seconds to warm up to people. Literally. I have the feeling that her nervousness may be because she was in a puppy mill for a while, and the Animal Care & Control facility reminds her of that, but even still, having met her, I can’t imagine any sensible person coming to such a conclusion.

So. So much for ‘humane San Francisco’. If you can’t take her but know someone who can, or know a group that might be able to take her, please leave a comment or drop me a line at alang at this blog’s address (dogsofsf.com) ASAP.

Please?

First off, I LOVE your blog! I actually volunteer at the SF ACC and feel compelled to defend them a bit here.
Unlike “no-kill” shelters like the SPCA, the ACC is required to take in every animal. Despite this, they actually have one of the highest adoption rates in the entire country! This is due mainly to the fact that they collaborate closely with local rescue groups (including the SPCA!) in an attempt to get all animals in homes, especially when resources/”adoptability” do not allow them to continue to stay at the (terribly under-funded) shelter.
Since most of these rescue groups do not have kennels, the rescues will often make the situation seem very urgent/dire in the hopes that people will come forward to foster or adopt. Sadly, this often casts the ACC in a very bad light! Many ACC workers and volunteers see this as a kind of necessary evil to get dogs in homes…but I hate to see the reputation of such a loving and hard-working organization suffer, especially since they have such a hard time getting funding and volunteers in the first place.
Just food for thought– thanks for reading! 🙂

I agree, ACC does do good work. But at the same time… I have a feeling that this lovely pup didn’t make it, and there was SOOOO no reason for that… she was such an amazing sweetheart. I would have taken her in a second if I didn’t have a landlord that was the dictionary definition of ‘over-learning’. (“Yes, well, I had problems with a tenant with a dog 35 years ago, so no more of them!”)

Just sharing some good news here. A good friend of mine adopted her and she is now the love of not only his life, but his wife’s as well. Sully is so happy in her new home and has them both wrapped around her paw 🙂

YAY! That is too awesome. Is your friend in San Francisco? Do you think he and his wife would let me do a photo shoot of Sully?
