Dog of the Day: German Shepherd/Wolf mix

This is not just any German Shepherd mix: this is Rover!  Half German Shepherd, half wolf, and all awesome.  He is an inhabitant of our local neighborhood, and he is a perfect gentleman, with people and with other dogs.  He’s also a shameless lover of attention, and knows all of the store owners in the area very well.  They all know him, too, and most of them keep a treat or two behind the counter for him.  He’s getting on in years, but he’s still pretty spry, and smart as a whip.

Another couple of Rover pics below the break!

This dog looks a mix of many things, but wolf is definitely not one of them.
If he was only GSD and wolf, his ears would be much smaller, and heavily furred. They would also sit atop his head.
His feet are also too small for me to believe this genetic make-up.
I don’t know why I care enough to comment, there are plenty of falsely represented things out there. But no one has said anything about this yet.
I will end this comment with , Rover looks like a dog that would make me smile if I met him in person. Sorry Rover, my comment doesn’t mean to insult or belittle you. Humans like to mislabel things and it can be dangerous, but you’re a good dog.

Could well be, I wouldn’t be surprised. And yes, the ears seemed very strange… didn’t know where a half-wolf half-GSD would get even slightly floppy ears from.

Regardless, you’re right, he was very much a dog that made everybody smile. And I will say, he did act kind of a bit wolfy, at least in the way that Daniel Pinkwater described it in Uncle Boris in the Yukon (which if you haven’t read I highly, highly recommend.
