Dog of the Day: Chow Mix

No idea what this guy is mixed with. He was making some noise outside Real Foods on Polk Street. Not really being annoying, just barking every once in a while to let mom/dad/whoever inside know that he was still out there waiting.

Chow Mix

You can tell he's a happy dog... in every single picture I took, his tail's the only blurry thing.

He also seems to spend most of his time with a grin on his face.

Eventually he got tired of standing around barking, and lay down. And barked.

Happy face super Chow close-up!

I wish you the very best of luck. I know what it’s like, wanting a dog and not being able to have one.

I would not recommend a chow for a person’s first dog. They tend to be hard to socialize, and very ‘aloof’… not very kind to or interested in other dogs or people. This can be overcome, but it takes experience and patience.

Gorgeous dog, he almost looks like he might have shepherd in him,

I love him we have a chow jingo mix who looks alot like him. And yes it has taken alot of time and patience to get our cooper to play with other dog friends.

One thing I’ve noticed: chows and chow mixes are a real challenge, but the well-socialized ones seem to be great dogs: happy and friendly, but not jump-all-over-you friendly.

Now that you’re good friends with him and have gotten to know him, did you ever find out what breeds he’s mixed with? My dog looks exactly like him, my sister and I freaked out when we stumbled upon this on our google search. For a second, we were convinced my dog had taken a trip to San Francisco without letting us know.

If you know the type of breed he is, please let me know. We don’t know our dog’s heritage and believe he’s some sort of chow mix. He has always been a strange mystery to us but a delight none the less.

I’m afraid I don’t know, no. I think he was a rescue dog, so I’m not sure anyone does, but I will ask his owner next time I see her.

If your pup is anything like him then you lucked out. He’s a super-sweet dog, very calm and very friendly. And very smart.

My girl looks kinda the same, i wish i could send a picture, she’s a rescue too. Someone told us, she’s a chow chow – pitbull mix.
Ando like you said, she’s super sweet, smart and fluffy! I love her

Awesome. Yeah, this one is a friend of mine now. I generally delay his mom by several minutes every time I see the two of them while I scratch his back and the sides of his head. He’s a total love bug.

Looks like my Thor. But my Thor has a lighter tan coat with white around the face and paws. I was told he was chow mix as well possible with German Shepherd or Shiba Inu. For a bit we thought maybe jingo as well. Very good dog as well.

    • Adam Lang says:

How old is your pup? This one I knew for almost ten years, and he was no young’n when I first ran into him, so he lived a good long time.

Any pictures of Thor online? If so, post some links here, we’d love to get a look at him.

    • Adam Lang says:

That pup was a good friend of mine. I knew him for four or five years.

Any pictures of your pup online? If so, please post some links here!
