I was out for a walk last Tuesday, trying to get the last few bits of exercise to ‘close my rings’ for the day, and I ran across a man and a woman walking their cat and dog, Oliver and Scooby. Shortly thereafter, I found the wild parrots that nest in the area. Pretty good for a half mile walk!
This, as if I had to clarify, is Scooby. Scooby is Oliver’s bestie. And Oliver. Oliver loves his walks, especially when there are parrots to watch. And people to scratch behind his ears.
Hey look, it’s a (5-year-old) gold Nugget! According to mom, Nugget’s tail was dyed last year just before they went to a giant golden retriever meetup with hundreds of dogs, so that they wouldn’t lose track of her, and after that it just sort of became her ‘thing’. Hey, if humans can dye their hair green, I fully support Nugget’s pink tail!
Nugget is a holdover from my trip to Sacramento last month. I didn’t get a lot of dog pictures up there because the pup I was sitting for didn’t like other dogs, alas.
Boomer is a fifteen-year-old female Rhodesian ridgeback. That’s pretty amazing, given how big Rhodesians are.
She doesn’t sit and get up all that well, but she can still get around, even on the hills of San Francisco. She also knows how to cadge some scratches from random bystanders.
Jemma is four. She’s been having some back problems lately, and recently had IVDD surgery, and I am happy to report that she is recovering nicely, and seems quite happy with the results. And with more or less everything else.
I went to a trade show today. It had a lot of computers and people and booths and sessions and stuff. They were boring. It also had a small enclosure with a dozen puppies running around in it. Apparently there is a local rescue/adoption place/company/I dunno that will bring puppies to your event in exchange for money, and also adopts them out. I approve!
Anyway I maaaaay have spent slightly more time in there than was, strictly speaking, allotted to it in my schedule.
WORTH IT.
Indoor pictures of puppies are always a tough one, generally ending up ridiculous blurs. I got lucky a few times.Look at those sharp little teeth!
Nico! Nico is a Great Dane! Nico is 11! Wow! I ran into Nico before, but in that instance I did not discover that Nico has convertible ears. I do not think I’ve ever seen a Dane that can get his ears up this far. Silly Nico!
I am so happy to see old big dogs still climbing the hills of San Francisco. Gives me hope for, well, me!
Autumn sent me one more bird from Ireland: this is a barn owl, which is known in the Irish language as a “Scréachóg reilige”, or “graveyard screecher”. I dunno, I think “barn owl” seems a little more… dignified, somehow.
Looks a little sleepy.Honestly Autumn looks more like a graveyard screecher in this picture. (Kidding kidding don’t hit me!) 😀
