Dog of the Day: Mu Hsu the Sheltie/Pomeranian Mix

I’m not sure how the name is spelled… Moo Shu? Mu Shu? Moo Shoo? Moo Shoe, for that matter? [And then her parents showed up, and it’s Mu Hsu, darn it! And it’s ‘he!’ Edited to reflect the, ah, altered understanding. Shall we say.] Anyway, he’s half Shetland sheepdog, half Pomeranian, and all fluffy cuteness. I saw him standing on a part of some cement scalloped seating down near Ghirardelli Square, and at first I thought he was a fluffy corgi who was standing on one step higher than he actually was. Once I sorted out the fact that he actually did have legs, I didn’t know what to think. He totally looks like a fluffy corgi with legs, but all the half-corgis I have ever seen inherited all four legs from the corgi half of the family. Did not compute! Fortunately, mom and dad were there to straighten me out.

Two more pictures, after the break. [While I’m editing this: wow. It really hasn’t been all that long since I figured out how to remove the bluish cast from pictures, has it? I just reedited these pictures, and they should be a lot more pleasant to look at now. I don’t think I’m going to go back and fix anything else, though: I have enough trouble just keeping up with posting to begin with.]

Half-Sheltie, Half-Pomeranian

Super-soft fur. Hardly surprising, given the two breeds.

Sheltie/Pomeranian Mix

The ear fur is just amazing. That has to be well on towards eight inches long.

Pomeranian/Sheltie Mix

Tell me that isn't the spitting image of a fluffy Pembroke Welsh corgi on stilts.

Except look at that TAIL! OMG! She stole two fox tails and sewed them together before pinning it to her modesty flap/tailstub.

    Hey Adam,

We finally got around to googling for you and were pleasantly surprised to find that you did indeed blog our dog that day! 🙂 Thank you, your photos and commentary made us smile. For the record, he’s a boy, but we get that a lot. :):)

    Regards,
    Lisa

Hi! I was doing some research on what breed mix my dog might be. Our dogs are twins! Exact twins! I have an orange guy named Juice! I am now convinced he is a sheltie pom mix. I hope you & your pup are doing well. Just thought i’d reach out & tell you i’ve got his twin! 🙂

  3. Adam Lang says:

Glad you found us! I’ll do a bit of editing, now that I know the proper spelling and gender.

    • My orange doggy Juice & yours are exact twins! I’ve been searching to find what kind of dog he was & thought he was a corgi sheltie mix but then i started thinking about poms & sheltie & this just confirmed it!
here is my puppy in the link!

      • Adam Lang says:

I looked at those pictures and said ‘ooooohhhhaAAAAaaaaaAAAWWWW!’ out loud. Juice is too cute! Totally looks like a corgi with legs! But yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a Sheltie/Pom mix. How big is he? How old is he?

  4. Marisa V says:

This dog could be a clone of my pooch! But I’m failry certain my Sassy dog is a pembroke corgi/sheltie mix. The similarities between my own dog and the dog in this picture are uncanny, right down to the fox tail. They could be litter mates. Are you sure she is part pom and not corgi?

    • Adam Lang says:

I asked his mom and dad that same question, several times. I think I actually annoyed them a little, to tell the truth. But they were 100% sure: that’s a Pomeranian/Sheltie mix. And cute as a button, too.

  5. Amanda says:

This looks like my Dog! Her name`s Brandy and we were told that she was a Pomeranian Sheltie mix. Here`s her: http://www.flickr.com/photos/charlieandbrandymypoms/7510985270/

My puppy looks just like this! My family rescued him from our home island in Greece, but he is a light blonde/ginger color. I suspected he had sheltie and corgi or pomeranian in him because he has ears that look like bigger versions of pom ears. His name is Manny and he always gets complimented on his fox/coyote look and wonderful disposition. Here’s a pic of him sleeping:

    • Adam Lang says:

Thank you for leaving me that picture, that is utterly adorable. I’m going to put a link to the picture in one of my posts, if that’s all right: your pup deserves a bigger audience! (Please let me know if it’s okay, if you get back here.)

    • Adam Lang says:

Hee! Cute pup. And very similar, except yours has a much wider face. But since there are no head-on pictures of Mu Hsu, you can’t really tell.

  7. I have a half pomeranian and half sheltie and our dogs look so much alike except yours has the white under the neck from the sheltie and my dog is basically all brown with some black.

    • Adam Lang says:

Aww. You have any pictures of your pup online? Leave a link! I’d love to see some.

      • Debbie Brooker says:

I don’t have a link with Michaela and I’ve tried to insert a picture of her into this block but it won’t allow me to do it. I’ve tried copy paste, etc. I don’t know how to get a picture to you unless you want to give me your e-mail address. I would love to show you her picture.

  8. Adam Lang says:

Sure, you can email them to me at ‘alang’ at this blog’s address (dogsofsf.com). Or there’s a pretty simple way to share photos online: if you go to http://imgur.com there’s an area near the upper right hand corner marked ‘upload images’, and under it the word ‘computer’. If you click that, it’ll prompt you to find the file, and then it will upload it, and show you the page it’s on. And you can just copy the link and post it here.

Either way works fine for me.

I followed your directions to upload pictures of Michaela. See if you can look at them.

      • Adam Lang says:

It says ‘debibrk’s images are not publicly available.’

I think there might be some little switch somewhere that you have to push in order to make them publicly available. I don’t know, I never tried making an account to post there, I just uploaded and copied the URLs.

If I get a chance later today I’ll make an account and see if I can find where that setting is. (Sorry to make this so complicated, but there’s a bright side: once it’s done, you can share pictures of your dogs with ANYONE! 🙂

      • Adam Lang says:

Hm, I think I figured it out: if you log into imgur, and then click your username in the upper right hand corner, it will drop down a menu. Select ‘settings’ and then you can select the little radio button next to ‘Public’ and click ‘Save’ and it should make all your pictures public.

Did I say it was easy? Ugh. Obviously it’s been quite a while since I had to set this up myself.

        • Debbie says:

Michaela’s pictures are now marked public. Let me know if you can see them and if you think she looks like your Pom/Sheltie mix.

        • Debbie says:

Pictures of Michaela should be available to view now.

          • Adam Lang says:

Oh wow, that is one cute pup! I love the happy face in the third one. ‘I’M DIGGING! THIS IS GREAT!’ I hope you don’t mind a few holes in your yard.

You know who else Michaela reminds me of, besides Mu Hsu? Zoey! Only maybe slightly bigger than Zoey is. (A more recent couple pics of Zoey are here.)

          • Debbie says:

I’m glad you could see Michaela’s pictures. Yes, Zoey looks a lot like Michaela. So cute. Really sweet dog. We have a full blooded Sheltie named Zoey. 🙂

I am looking for a Sheltie Corgy mix Female Puppy please e-mail me

  10. Looks just like my Cassie! Half shelt-half Pom. I believe the new name for this breed is Shopie

    • Adam Lang says:

Really? I have to say, Mu Hsu is one of the foxiest-looking dogs I’ve ever seen. Do people ask you whether you’re walking a fox when you’re walking Cassie? Do you have any pictures of her online that you could link to here?

  11. Martin Pham says:

Hi ! I think this is similar to my dog which i’ve been trying to find the breed of, can you tell me what you think ?

    http://imgur.com/e0BJVpQ

    • Adam Lang says:

Wow, that is a cute dog! I would say definitely half Pomeranian. The other half could be Sheltie, or a long-haired Chihuahua, or one of several other more uncommon breeds. Some more pictures (from the side, maybe, to see both the shape of the body and the shape of the muzzle) would be helpful.

One thing’s for sure: your dog is really cute!

  12. Mehak Dinesh says:

All those interested in this dog. I believe he is actually available for adoption at Planet Pooch in Redwood City. I dog sat this guy for 2 weeks but unfortunately was not able to keep him. A post for his adoption can be found on the following link:

He is such a cutie and it would be awesome if my fluffy friend finds a more permanent home :).
