Dog of the Day: Holly-go-Lightly the Lead Dog

Every year at Bay to Barkers they choose an awesome dog from their pack of awesome dogs, and name that dog ‘Lead Dog’ for the day. That means that dog gets to lead the big dog walk, and gets pictures taken and whatnot.

This is Holly-go-Lightly, the lead dog for 2011, and also for 2009. (The color you see on her paws was a result of the ‘paw-painting’ station, where Holly made a work of art.)

Golden Retriever/Corgi Mix

Hmm, I wonder what breed she is? Clearly half golden retriever, but the half-up-ears and that splash of white on her chest are...

Corgi/Golden Retriever

...ah. Well, that makes it easier: only corgi mixes can look that ridiculous.

Corgi/Golden Retriever and Golden Retriever

Is it just me, or does that golden in the background look a little nervous?

OMG! My dog looks just like (identical)Holly-Go-Lightly….he is also a Golden/Corgie….and what a personality he has!

    • Adam Lang says:

I can’t imagine a personality more endearing than one halfway between golden retriever and corgi.

Got any pictures of him online? I’d love to see them.

      • Phyllis says:

No I don’t and am not even sure how to do that…….OK, not real savvy here πŸ™‚ He definitely has that jaunty attitude that Holly seems to have though and is always happy!

Our dog looks JUST like this. We adopted him from the shelter and we had to do a double take, we thought these were photos someone took of him!

Aww! I think he’s a little smaller, but otherwise quite similar. And cute! Congratulations on snagging an awesome dog.

  4. Phyllis says:

Here’s my Riley…wish I had a picture that better captured his unique personality. I think we may need to have a “Holly-Go-Lightly” convention :-), well, at least if I lived in San Francisco.

What fun THAT would be!! LOL

I couldn’t figure out what breed my shelter dog was (not even the vet would venture a guess) until I googled golden retriever-corgi mix (that was my best guess) and saw Holly-Go-Lightly — they could be twins! I think I now have an unofficial confirmation of what lovely breeds make up my Casey. Wish I could attach a pic. Any chance Holly’s sibs made it to Hawaii?

    • Adam Lang says:

I wouldn’t count it out entirely, but I suspect it’s more likely that you just found a very similar pup from the same breeds.

You’re lucky! A golden retriever/corgi mix is pretty close to the top of my list of ‘perfect dogs’. And I’ve run into Holly a few times now, and she is an absolute sweetheart.

I couldn’t tell what breeds made up my shelter dog (not even the vet would venture a guess) until I googled golden retriever-corgi mix (my best guess) and up came Holly-Go-Lightly — they could be twins! Or triplets if you include Phyllis’ dog. Wish I could attach pics. I now feel I have unofficial documentation of what lovely breeds make up my Casey. Any chance Holly’s sibs made it to Hawaii?

My dog looks just like this as well!!!!! She is 13 years old and I’ve never really known what breed she was mixed with! She literally looks exactly alike the dog above!!

  9. Greg says:

Thank You!!!. We got our dog last year at the pound. The Head looks like a Corgie, the body like a Dachshund and the tail like a Golden. We named her Goldie for her beautiful gold color. We were told she was part Dachshund and part Corgi. Then we saw a Golden Retriever and said, that looks like Goldie from behind. She has a big fluffy tail and white backside. I guess because she is so low to the ground we did not want to surrender our belief that she is part Dachshund. But she could be this dogs twin, except her tail is fluffier. Thank you for helping identify our dog. No more Dorgi’s here. She is a Corgen, as I think they are called- Corgi/Golden.

I just had to find a way to post Casey’s pics as the resemblance is uncanny, right down to the white spot on his chest. Thanks to those who used imageshack! Hope it works as I’ve never used a photo site before.

Wow, that’s my dog! And just found this because she was on buzzfeed! She’s a very good girl, and super silly.

    • Adam Lang says:

I’ve met her twice, and I remember her well. She was totally goofy and totally sweet. Corgi/golden is pretty close to my ultimate dog. πŸ™‚

  12. Anyone know of a corgi golden breeder?

  13. Phyllis says:

My Golden/Corgie, Riley, just makes me smile to look at him. He loves everybody, especially babies, and is as silly and goofy as he can be. He’s about 13 1/2 y.o. Best combo possible!!
