Dog of the Day: Dodge the Shiba Inu/Chow Mix

Meet Dodge. Dodge is a Shiba/Chow mix who goes around busting down all the stereotypes of standoffish Asian dogs.

And grinning. A lot.

Not hard to see the chow in there, is it?

Interesting mask markings. Sort of a combination of the black markings chows get with the white cheeks shibas get.

If there was ever a use for the Japanese word 'kawaii'...

Dodge wasn't afraid to let people know exactly what he wanted. Which is to say, 'skritches'.

This dog looks exactly like my chow shiba mix Sienna except for Sienna is more red. She has that same smile all the time and she loves everyone…she also does that lean to get scratches. I was so happy to see another that looked like her!!

I have to say, Dodge is one of my favorites of all time. That expression just makes me happy every time I look at it. Sounds like you’ve got a special pup there too.

That’s awesome. If you have any pictures of your pup, I’d love to see them. Dodge is one of my all-time favorites… it’s been nearly two years now since I saw him, and I still remember him.

Just by chance my wife and I found your blog and finally have confirmation as to what breed our dog Fred is! He’s a rescue off the street and one of the smartest and sweetest dogs we’ve ever seen!

We just laid our dear Dodge to rest. He was an amazing dog. At the SPCA they told us he would be standoffish but he was anything but. He died at the ripe old age of nearly 18. An amazing dog. Thanks for your comments!

I’m very sorry to hear that. It’s been three years since I met Dodge but I still remember him. And, from what I remember about him, I bet he spent the last three years (and the preceeding almost-15) going around making the lives of dozens of people a day just a little bit brighter. He sure did for me.
