Ran across these three (two dogs and one man) in South Park, last September. I might’ve caught them on a bad day… they all seemed a trifle testy, although I did a couple of smiles out of Fletch eventually. Still, though, I couldn’t pass up the chance to grab a few pictures of an akbash, our first for the site. They sure are pretty!

oh! you tried to take a picture of Zoe several months early (when she was smiling, I’m certain). Not sure who that is walking them, but Zoe’s about 85 lbs and Fletch is 120.
Awesome. And I am not surprised… my pictures don’t always come out, and black or white dogs are especially troublesome, especially in sunlight.
I really like those two pups. They’re very distinctive: I doubt anyone else in the city has a Great Pyrenees and an akbash. It makes them immediately identifiable, and I’ve seen them a number of times in various neighborhoods. (In fact, once within the last week, I think.)
They definitely look like they’d be a handful, though. Two dogs that together outweigh me, and each of which individually is probably strong enough to drag me around? Eek!
They get around 🙂
Really well-behaved unless you’re a perceived threat(person or dog) to their “livestock” (people they love). Probably why Zoe was giving you the stink-eye in all the pictures 🙂
Could be! But what an amazingly pretty stink-eye she has. 🙂
I LOVE THOSE PUPS! And I love the “testy man” more than words can say. –A
Beautiful dogs!
Hi there!
We discovered about the true breed of our “Bunny”, an Akbash! We were thrilled to learn about her breed and her history. She is now 11 and a little slow on jet daily walks but a total love. She is mellow and has a distinctive smile. She curls her upper lip and bares her teeth. She doesn’t growl, but wags her big tail. She lives in Walnut Creek and I’m wondering if there are others in the Bay Area? If so please write. Thanks!
Sure, there are quite a few of them around San Francisco. Zach, for example. I don’t know how to put you in touch with any of them, although if I see any I’ll ask them to post a comment here for you! Akbashes are awesome dogs… just like slightly bigger, slightly mellower goldens. Well, maybe a bit more stubborn…
