Dog of the Day: Pixie the Norwegian Fruit-Bat Terrier

Pixie is quite a rare breed! In fact, she may well be the only Norwegian fruit-bat terrier outside of Norwegia. I had been previously unaware of this breed, until her mom told me about them, but I immediately made up researched a bunch of details. For example, did you know that they were originally bred for war, and were used in the Battle of Hastings by Norwegian mercenaries, who were hired to fight against the fearsome Norman ‘batzenjammers’, who rode into battle on the backs of giant mutant fruit bats?

Whoever cropped her ears should have his ears cropped in return. It’s only fair, right?

Edit: Well, I’m not sure why significant numbers of people search for ‘Norwegian fruit-bat dog’ on google, but welcome regardless.

Obviously the ears have to be cropped to keep the fruit bats from grabbing onto them, right?

Perhaps the curly tail enables the dog to trap smaller fruit-bats as they fly through?

And the intense cuteness attracts bats. And also dog blog photographers.

Wait – did I miss February and March? It’s not April First yet, it is? Whatever breed, this is one very lovely dog!!

    • Adam Lang says:

I thought of hanging onto Pixie for April Fools’ Day, actually, but I decided that she was too awesome to wait that long. 🙂

I also have fruit bat terrier look just like pixie. His ears not clip he is beautiful. Is he a rear breed how did he got here. I got him from the shelter.

    • Adam Lang says:

Hah, no, it’s just a joke breed. Do you have any pictures? I’d love to know what she would look like with un-cropped ears.

I think Pixie is maybe 1/4 American Pit Bull Terrier, but honestly I don’t know WHAT else she would be. But she sure is a sweetheart, whatever she is.

I have the exact same dog! Mine doesn’t have clipped ears though. I found her as a starving stray in southeast Ohio. Not sure what she is but she’s so loving and gentle. Female, brindle, curled tail, and a white star on her chest. Sadly no one wants to give her a loving home and we cannot keep her 🙁

    • Adam Lang says:

Oh no! I hope you can find somebody!

Do you have any pictures online? And a link to a bio/adoption site? I might be able to spread the word a little bit. No Norwegian fruit-bat terriers should ever be without a loving home!

Also, er, if you don’t mind my asking, what is ‘sexcandybliss.com’ going to be?

      • Jessica says:

Found a home for her in late September 🙂 Sorry, no pics due to my awesome phone skills. 8mo of pics out the window.

sexcandybliss.com WAS supposed to be your favorite estore but I shut it down for a couple months and it disappeared. Trying my best to get the domain back. Who doesn’t love sex, candy, and all things bliss?

        • Adam Lang says:

Aw man. How did you lose it? One of those ‘you pay us, and we register it for you, and then we hold it hostage if you don’t like our service’ deals? Looks like it from the domain whois info.

Sucks. It’s a tough lesson to learn. How much do they want to give it back? There are a few things you might be able to do that I can think of, but most of them would cost some money. And most of them wouldn’t work if you agreed to TOS with an arbitration clause.

I have a male and has been one of my favorite dog so far.

  5. Crystal says:

You originally posted long ago, but I feel I must comment as I have a similar looking dog. I have no idea what he is mixed with! But he has the curled tail and perked up folded ears. He also has a bit of an underbite. Short, long, 25 lbs of wonderful mutt. No one has any idea what he is.

I have a dog that looks exactly like Pixie her name is Sadie. I like in Pennsylvania, USA.

    • Adam Lang says:

Awesome! Where in Pennsylvania? I used to live just north of Philly, and I went to Penn State in State College for a while too.

I had a exact same dog till he passed of old age, since then I’ve been wanting to get another one. He was my son and I cried for days after he passed. Anyone know where I can find one? My kids miss him so much
