Dog of the Day: Bastion the Basenji

Bastion (7) is only our second ever full basenji. (Our first was Candle. Funny thing: neither Candle nor Bastion have the ‘concerned’ forehead wrinkles that so many basenjis seem to have.) And I have no idea why this is, but Bastion is the only dog I have ever taken pictures of where more than 3/4 of the pictures (out of nearly 30!) showed him with his eyes closed. I wonder if maybe it was just too bright outside for him or something?

In other news: I don’t know what it is, but in the last two weeks I have run into a huge number of puppies. I am thinking we might need to have another puppy week soon, because I am not sure I can keep myself from posting all these guys at once anyway. SO CUTE.

Red and White Basenji Sitting With Eyes Closed

Quite obedient. And quite cute. And definitely not blind.

Red and White Basenji With Eyes Closed

Not that he’s not adorable with his eyes closed.

Red and White Basenji Smiling

There we go. Is it just me, or is he also kind of smiling?

Bastion is a very handsome boy. I have two red and white basenjis, Audrey and Shaka, and I believe their are two of only three basenjis in the Mission. There is a tri-color named Bamba whom we have met.

I hope ours make it to your blog sometime.

I really need to get down to the Mission more often. There are so many great dogs down there, and such a wide variety, but I’m almost never down there. I hope to run into you and your pups sometime!

Oh, incidentally, have you checked out The House of Two Bows? A basenji (and shiba inu) oriented Bay Area blog. Pretty neat, and some good information there.

Bastion is staying with me these days. I am happy to report he is about to turn 13 and healthy and strong as a horse.
