Dog of the Day: Peaches the Chow/Wheaten Terrier/Poodle Mix?

The breed mix of this snorgly and cheerful young dog is a total guess on mom’s part. The blue tongue doesn’t necessarily mean chow, but in this case I wouldn’t be at all surprised.

Funny thing about this pup: I was up in Sebastopol for a guitar workshop, and I ran into her out in front of the super-yummy downtown handmade Screaming Mimi’s Ice Cream. But it turns out she’s not just a ‘dog of the San Francisco Bay Area’, she’s a dog of SF… she lives in South Beach, right near where I work. She was just up visiting Sebastopol, same as me.

That's mom, of course. Notice what she's holding...

...because it's pretty clear that Peaches has!

Great expression: one part heat, one part long fur, and three parts happy dog!

One, two, three: awwwww...

Great pics! we have the same mix but at 9. We adopted Murphy about 5 years ago and he is the best dog I ever had, just an all around great dog, he should run for mayor. I can’t make it more than a block on the walk before some one has to stop and snuggle him- and he eats it all up. Good to see pics of other similar mixes as its hard to find. thanks for posting,

Aww. What a sweet looking pup! And the dachshund is adorable too.

    • Sharon says:

Wow! First, your dogs are adorable and I’m so happy they have such fun together. Second, your dog Murphy looks just like my late Wookie (he passed on 1/26/14 at we guess age 10 or 11, it’s been really hard). I’m just curious, where did you adopt Murphy from? I looked at photos of Murphy on your Flickr photostream and it is CRAZY how much him and Wookie look alike! Thanks and hope to share some fluffy friend stories.

        Hi Sharon,
Thanks for kind words. Please share a pic of wookie as its only two other dogs that look like murph.

        • Sharon says:

Hello! I’ve been really wanting to share photos of Wookie with you much sooner. It’s been a month now without my Wookie and things are getting slightly better. I’m not in such a dense fog. But I really would love for you to see how much him and Murph look alike! I know I really enjoyed seeing Murphy πŸ™‚ It is enjoyable to think there are more of these special mixes out there bringing others joy. I didn’t know how else to share them with you on this site so I created a Flickr account for you to check out! Let me know if the link doesn’t work. πŸ™‚ Hope you, Murph and your family are well.

Aww… what a totally sweet-looking pup. He looks SO happy, in basically all of the pictures… you must have really treated that boy right.

I especially like ‘wooki 11’, ‘P9100738’, ‘P103261 copy dpf’, ‘P102560’, and especially ‘IMG_0383 Copy’ (that goofy face!).

Thanks for sharing your adorable pictures with Oso, and letting me sneak a peek too. πŸ™‚

No, thank you Adam! I meant to respond to your comment earlier too but I couldn’t figure out how to attach photos to this thread! Anyway – Thank you for taking the time to look at my pictures of Wookie and say such nice things about him and the life we provided for him. It really means a lot to hear others acknowledge his life, his cuteness (he was rather ridiculous at times) and how happy he was πŸ™‚ I really appreciate your thoughtful comments and time. I wish you happiness with your loved ones (human, canine, feline, etc.:) I know you mentioned you had a no-dogs apartment so I hope someday your apartment building allows pets or you live somewhere that allows animals, especially dogs πŸ™‚ I love all animals but a dog’s love is incredibly unique and life-changing. Best wishes – Thanks again.

I second the motion! I’d love to see some pictures of your pup, and I wish you the best of luck in finding another awesome dog. I have never heard of anyone breeding similar dogs (except some labradoodles look kind of like Peaches) but the most amazing crosses show up on Petfinder all the time…

Hi! My dog Bree who just passed looks so much like Wookie (and Murphy!) that I can’t believe it… They had to have been relatives! Do you know where Wookie came from, and age? Bree was somewhere between 13-16 and it is unclear whether she was rescued in Tennessee or Mississippi. This is the link to my instagram, please take a look- https://www.instagram.com/kmmerino/ I have older pics of her (in her older age she got very uncomfortable with long hair so I had to shave her often) with long hair and the resemblance is striking. I’d be happy to send those over

I know this was a while back, you may not get this, but your sweet dog is precious. I have a goldendoodle he reminds me of named Murray. Murray is also very sweet and SMART! I also think he’s the best dog I have ever had!

Love your pup! Our mutt looks very similiar. We love him to death. Cant go out in public without someone falling in love with him. I’m wondering if your pooch suffers from seizures???? Unfortunately, ours does.

    • Adam Lang says:

Aww, I’m sorry to hear that. Poor pooch!

No, I’m pretty sure Peaches doesn’t have seizures… I’m sure her mom would have mentioned it if she did.

  3. Deshawna says:

I love this kind of dog i had same exact color size everything. She passed away 2/25. I had her for 13 years she was 16 when she passed. I miss her sooo much. I want another just like her but its hard to find, if anyone can help me find another one just exact to this womans dog i would greatly appreciate it. I just want to fill that missing hole in my heart that fefe left when she passed away.

    • Adam Lang says:

Aww. I have no idea where to tell you to look, except maybe on Pet Finder. But I hope you find someone.

      • Deshawna Hamilton says:

Thank you. Still no luck with finding another. Im going to keep trying.

    • Kat Merino says:

My dog Bree (just passed away yesterday) shares a striking resemblance with Murphy..I can’t believe how similar they look and she was about the same age. It is unclear whether she was rescued from Tennessee or Mississippi but I was lucky enough to spend 8 amazing years with her. Please visit the link to my Instagram page where you’ll see many pictures of her!

What a cutie Peaches is! She looks like such a sweet well-behaved pup. I had a similar mixed breed named Wookie. Supposedly Wookie was on the set of the movie “Grinch” with Jim Carrey when he was younger but didn’t do all the tricks right πŸ™ So he was fired and my Dad adopted him in Florida in 2007. I took care of him the last couple of years. Wookie died last week on 1/26 and I just don’t feel like the same person without him. He squeaked all the time, loved to roll on his ball on his back, loved walks, playing with other dogs, spinning with excitement, and was so easy-going. he instantly put me and everyone he met at ease. He was the best dog ever, so gentle, playful, fluffy and loving. We always joked about how we should clone him so others could have a Wookie too:) The world would be a better place if everyone had a Wookie. We knew there were others out there but we have never came across on in person so it’s neat to see other dogs like him out there. Still, they are all so unique and irreplaceable! I wish you many happy moments with your pups!

    • Adam Lang says:

Sounds like you’re lucky Wookie messed up the tricks, because otherwise he would’ve been a star, and you probably never would have gotten to meet him! And I agree… the world would be a better place if everyone could have a Wookie, or a Peaches. (Especially me… curse my no-dogs-allowed apartment!)

I thought I would share some pictures of our sweet Wendy. We saved her from a shelter 6 months ago. I was looking for dogs that looked similar to her and found this post about Peaches.

Hi me and my parents have been looking for this specific type of breed, where can we get one we are moving to florida so is there any breeders of this breed there?

  8. Melanie Landsman says:

Finding this article way too late but I am blown away with Peaches and how much she looks like my family’s late dog Fozzie (DC area pup) http://www.instagram.com/fozziefotos. Would love to connect with Peaches’ owner or anyone with this type of dog!

    • Adam Lang says:

Wow, you’re right, they could be brother and sister! The only real difference is the slight darkening around the ears.
