Dog of the Day: Bronte the Irish Wolfhound

While we were walking away from this dog, after we’d gone up and visited a bit, Autumn said “Wow, it really was an Irish wolfhound!” And I said, “Well, yeah… what, weren’t you sure?” And she said, “No, I figured it had to be something else, it was so tiny!”

I looked over at her to see if she was joking. She wasn’t. Apparently this is tiny for an Irish wolfhound. It’s pretty decent-sized for a great Dane though.

Second picture after the break.

Edit: Bronte’s mom found these pictures and identified her in the comments below, seven years after I posted her. Sad to say, she passed away early this year.

She was definitely dainty for an Irish wolfhound, but she had panache!

Also, I gotta say, that purple leash and purple-and-gold collar looked great on her.

    Dear Adam:
7 years later I come across your post of Bronte, my Irish wolfhound. I never saw this before, obviously she was out in South Park with her caregiver.

She passed away in January 2017. I can’t tell you how much it meant to me to see her again in your “Dog of the Day.” She was a gentle soul.

It has literally been more than seven years, and I still remember this pup. I caught her during a lunch break from work, when I was having lunch at that little French place in South Park, The Butler and the Chef with Autumn, and there she was, gorgeous and huge and just sort of ambling along, enjoying life.

I’m sorry to hear of your loss, but you’re lucky to have had such a wonderful dog.

I was very lucky, she was my shadow. When I realized something was wrong, I was with her 24/7 for the last 9 days of her life. I am not sure if your email address is on your site but if I find it tomorrow will send you a photo of us that was in the Wall Street Journal back in 2013.

        Best,

        Peter

It is, it’s on the ‘About The Authors’ page. But it’s my first initial and last name, @ this blog (dogsofsf.com).

You could also just upload it to one of the picture sharing places (imgur.com is nice because you don’t have to create an account to upload an image) and then post a link in the comments, too. Either way, I’d love to see the picture. What was the article about?

            Dear Adam:

I will look for your email address. In general I don’t do social media and feel odd posting the WSJ picture but want to send to you privately. I had a friend visiting from Tokyo this past weekend and he had 4 video of Bronte from years ago, that too was so special to see.

That’s a great picture. You know, you look an awful lot like my uncle, whose name is also Peter. But your Bronte looked almost nothing like his dog. Far, far more awesome. 🙂

I can’t thank you enough for your post. It was a very special moment to see her again unexpectedly. Obviously you too have a great love for dogs.

            Sincerely,

            Peter
