I still need a little time to mourn Tidus. I’ll post my eulogy to him tomorrow or the next day. But I think we all need a little hope for the new year, too, so I’m going to post an adoption story for you that I collected on New Year’s Eve.
So meet Blitzen (shelter name, so probably going to change). She’s a 2-month-old mutt of some sort. I’d guess there’s either golden retriever or Great Pyrenees in there, and if I were forced to choose I’d have to go with the Pyrenees, given her size at this age/gender combination, plus the size of her ‘dainty’ feets. The spotty muzzle is a much less straightforward thing, but I’m guessing Australian shepherd or Australian cattle dog, and if you twist my arm I’ll lean a little towards shepherd.
And she is SO. DAMN. FLUFFY.
Showing off her best feature… HER FUZZY BUTT!
So here’s the story: the family had just lost a cat and a dog, one right after the other.
The woman you see in the picture was therefore on a ‘quest’ for a new canine friend.
(I love this expression.) So they got back from a trip, and she had to be dissuaded from going straight from the airport to Macy’s without even stopping at home.
Instead she ran home and dropped off her bags, took a quick look at the Macy’s live-cam of the puppy windows, and, I am told, pretty much sprinted out the door.
And… she made it in time! The ridiculously adorable fluffball was still available for adoption.
And they all lived happily ever after, the end! (And yes, the hovertext is from ‘Mame’. I will admit to having played the Lithuanian Bishop.)
