Dog of the Day: Mishka the Maybe Cocker Spaniel Poodle Mix Puppy

I don’t have any notes for Mishka, but his name is on his tags, and I think he might be a cockapoo.

If you look in the phone you’ll see a reflection of the sign we were standing in front of: ‘Korean Corn Dog’. I don’t think Mishka is Korean, but he might be a little corny!

Mishka basically means ‘little mousie’ in Russian (which I took in high school). Google says it means ‘bag’ in Ukranian. I’m choosing to assume that this is a little mousie.

Dog News: World Dog Surfing Championships IN JEOPARDY!

I’ve loved covering the World Dog Surfing Championship the several times I did it. This year it’s not clear there’s going to be one, because the costs have apparently gone way up… the local city government is charging way more for permits and such.

Dog of the Day: Doom the German Anatolian Shepherd Mix

‘Doom the Shepherd’ could be mistaken for an instruction, or perhaps the name of a particularly pastoral punk band, but in this case Doom is his name. Doom is 11, and is a mix of German and Anatolian shepherd. I said ‘wow, I don’t think I’ve ever run into an Anatolian mix before, that’s really unusual’ and they said ‘well, he is from Turkey’ so I guess that explains a certain amount!

Doom is the best canine friend of Rohnan (yesterday’s dog). The two of them look pretty silly together, but unfortunately none of my group photos turned out.

Puppy of the Day: Uma the Cockapoo

Uma is nine weeks old. I squealed so high that it was ultrasonic when I saw her. Her mom couldn’t hear it, but she could.

Caturday Supplement: Chester and Fitzmagic the Bengal Kitties

Chester and Fitzie are brothers, and they’re both 11 months old, so still technically kittens. And yet somehow they are totally calm and cheerful and okay with hanging out outside and saying hi to folks. I hear there’s some leash training going on too, but I’m not sure how it’s going so far.
