Kala gave me so many kisses I walked off with wet hands. Strangely enough, I could not bring myself to be unhappy about this state of affairs.
Kala is 6. I totally mistook her for a puppy.
Apparently Kala is a fan of an alternative local sports franchise. Even though she was within two blocks of AT&T Park!

I met Dante and his mom, Francine Brevetti, on my jog to work one morning. I stopped her to get a few pictures of her pooch, and found out that she is a writer, writing coach, and ghost writer, who is currently working on a book about pets who sleep with their owners. Current working title: ‘Cat Naps and Doggie Snorts‘.
Dante himself is, if I recall correctly, a rescue from Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. He’s 10, but he’s a miniature poodle… he’s still got plenty of years left in him.
Mom called him ‘Dante’ because he’s an Italian writer, just like her.
Those ears. Do you think he stole them from a standard poodle, maybe?

Any of my birdier readers want to tell me which species this is? It kind of looks like a California gull, but it seems like the beaks on them only have black tips, they aren’t all black.
My childhood was full of seagulls, though of the east-coast varieties.
What’s cuter than a 1-year-old keeshund? How about a 10-week-old keeshund? These two were visiting a bar not far from our place. Alas, Bandito (aka ‘Bandit’) was all worn out from some playing and then the walk over. He didn’t even do much wiggling.
They both have the same parents, but obviously not from the same litter.
The older ones are very nearly as dangerously cute as the puppies. So much fluff!

Meatloaf! I posted him on my birthday, after taking pictures of him a year ago. And his dad still found the pictures after less than a month, and sent me a couple more. And they were so awesome that I just had to post them. So this is how Meatloaf is doing, a year and a bit after I originally ran into him.

Ran into this lovely mutt on the way somewhere in Oakland a couple weeks ago. I couldn’t stop to chat, but I was sorry because she seemed really sweet. And then, around half an hour later, I came back and she was still tied up in the same place. And was still having a blast, saying hello to all the passers-by. Fortunately, at that point I had a little time for a couple of shots.
I must have tripped the shutter at the only time in the entire half-hour period when she wasn’t looking goofily happy.
There, that’s a little better.
Someone had apparently just had surgery. Sure didn’t seem to be letting it bother her.
Sir Chester (knighted at only 9 months old! such an honor!) has his own facebook page and everything.

Don’t know if this pup was named after the character in the movie or the rapper, but he’s a small dog with big fur, so it works pretty well for him.
Biggie is around five months old. Think he’s pretty much all fluffed out already.
I had to lean forward when he did this. And then I got my nose licked.

Autumn and I caught a glimpse of Gaudi from afar as we were wandering Polk Street last Sunday, and made a beeline for her. Sure enough, she was cuteness personified. (Dog-sonified?)
Super-light coat. Must be an English golden.
Gaudi has super-scruffy back-fur, but her sides and the rest of her is relatively smooth. Never seen anything like it.

My favorite dog owners are the ones who are completely unfazed by some random person asking to take their dog’s picture. They know their dog is the most awesome dog in the world, so why wouldn’t everyone want to take her picture?

I wander by the little park near Market and Embarcadero fairly often, to listen to the parrots. They often fly over my apartment, too, so I occasionally wake to the sound of a flock of parrots. (Which I quite like, actually.) But I don’t often see them close up. A couple days ago, there were a couple down on one of the low trees in that park, checking out all the tourists. (And no, nobody was feeding them. I guess they were just curious.)
