Dog of the Day: Dog of the Day: Moe the Basset Hound/Australian Shepherd/Golden Retriever Again!

I just posted Moe in January, despite having run into him last July at Bay to Barkers, where he was wandering the Canine Good Citizen course. And then who should I run into at the DogFest a few weeks ago but Moe! Only this time he was competing in a competition to see who had the best ‘strut’.

The competition was fierce, and Moe sadly did not get the trophy, although he clearly had a blast so that was all right.

Incidentally, Bay to Barkers 2012 is on July 29th. More information available here. See you there, I hope!

A classy and calm way of attracting mom's attention: instead of jumping up on her, just reach out and tap her with your paw.

Surprisingly serious expression for that amount of tongue showing.

Here he is, strutting away! Go, Moe, go!

Dog of the Day: Maya the Pub Pup!

This is Maya, the Labrador retriever I posted a picture of last week. She’s down at the Boardroom pub in North Beach a fair amount with her dad. (And who could blame her? As the sign out front says, they have bacon-wrapped tater tots.) She mostly stays out in front and watches the people go by, but sometimes she sleeps on a bench in the back (as pictured earlier) or says hello to all the bar-flies.

Her claim to fame, as if being cute and adorable and greeting everyone isn’t enough, is that she is apparently an accomplished pickpocket, who stole someone’s wallet out of their pocket and wandered off with it at one point. Naughty!

This Lab has a bit of the 'border collie stare' in her.

Streeeetch.

We apparently took her usual resting place when we claimed one corner table, but it didn't seem to phase her much. She just found another one and snoozed away.

Dog of the Day: Maggie the Australian Shepherd Mix Puppy

Maggie’s three months old, and still has that super-soft puppy coat. When I stopped to take her picture, she was pretty much entirely surrounded by admirers.

Australian Shepherd Mix Puppy

I often have to be quite careful not to accidentally take pictures of other people's kids. It's not technically illegal but, well, a lot of people would prefer I didn't, so I mostly err on the side of caution.

Australian Shepherd Mix Puppy

A 'high dynamic range' image that came out ALMOST right. The tag sure came out clearly.

I think someone's maybe a teensy bit overwhelmed.

Maggie's got a 'reverse mohawk' thing going on there.

Double Dog Day: Tasha the Boxer Mix and Cuba the Labrador Retriever Puppy

These two were getting along famously, but they were murder to photograph, especially given that they were standing in an area that alternated between shadow and sunlight. Still, they were a cute enough pair that I have to put up something.

Tasha’s a year and a half old, and Cuba is 3 months.

The expressions make the picture.

See what I mean about light and shadow?

Cuba is a font of ridiculous expressions. I hope mom and dad are spending a lot of time with a camera.

Dog of the Day: Ella the Teacup Great Pyrenees

Okay, that may be a bit of an exaggeration. But… wow! A 65 pound fully adult Great Pyrenees. How does that even happen? Even for females, the smallest the breed standard calls for is 25 inches at the shoulder, and approximately 85 pounds.

To put this in perspective, this pup is significantly smaller than Autumn’s family’s (also female) golden retriever.

Ella’s mom asked me to add something to my post:

I ran into you yesterday near Mission Creek and you took a pic of my Great Pyrenees Ella.  I got your card and checked out your blog – very fun!

If you end up posting her pic and want to tell people where they can get their own lovable Great Pyrenees… we got her two months ago from Sierra Pacific Great Pyrenees Rescue in Sacramento:   http://spgpc.com/

So there you have it: rescue a Great Pyrenees today! Or, if you’d prefer an even tinier white foofly happy dog, I hear the American Eskimo from a few days ago might still be up for adoption…

Small Great Pyrenees

Another clearly happy pup. Over thirty pictures, and not one of them did not contain a doggie smile.

Small Great Pyrenees

I grabbed these pictures at about 8:30 in the morning on the way to work.

Small Great Pyrenees

Ella drooled all over my pants. I didn't mind. (Although I did spend five minutes cleaning them off afterward.)

Small Great Pyrenees

How's that for a 100% natural antidepressant?

Dog of the Day: Tobi the Australian Shepherd

Who could possibly resist Tobi (Toby? I may have taken this down wrong), the 4-year-old Australian shepherd? Certainly not I: Tobi had me wrapped around his paw from the moment I set eyes on him.

Australian Shepherd with Up Ears

Tobi has a flaw that will forever keep him out of dog shows! (Not exactly a huge loss, to Tobi's mom OR to me.) Can you guess what it is? Answer in the next picture.

Australian Shepherd with Up Ears

Yes indeedy, Australian shepherds are definitely not supposed to have RIDICULOUS ADORABLE GOOFY STANDY-UP FUZZLY EARS! (And isn't that just a shame and a half?)

Australian Shepherd with Up Ears

Gorgeous look at his particolored left eye.

Australian Shepherd with Up Ears

I love the ones who go after the camera.

Australian Shepherd with Up Ears

There's the smile. It took him a couple seconds to warm up to me, and after that it was all puppy grins.

Australian Shepherd with Up Ears

Gorgeous merle pattern.

Australian Shepherd with Up Ears

He and I were dancing around and making goofy noises at this point. I swear, it's a wonder nobody has locked me up yet.

Australian Shepherd with Up Ears

Okay, I would invite you to find more ridiculous ear hair ANYWHERE.

Caturday Supplement: Hungry Hungry Kittehs!

It’s the new game craze that’s sweeping the nation: hungry hungry kitties!

Kittens

There's a third one in the back, in case you missed it.

Kittens

Shortly after this picture was taken, all three were found in a small pile, utterly comatose and with distended bellies.

Dog of the Day: Sirius the Beagle

Phew! Computer’s not 100% done, but it’s damned close, and the new setup is working quite nicely.

In celebration, here is a 7-year-old beagle with a nice nose. I have some pictures of a friend of his, too, which you’ll see later on.

Beagle

They don't get a lot beaglier than this guy.

Beagle

Hee. Love that expression.

Beagle

Lovely deep brown eyes. They remind me of a horse's eyes.

Terrifying Beagle Face

...not sure I need to say anything here...

Site News: Close Enough!

My computer is back to, well, ‘close enough’. It’s not at 100% yet, but it’s close enough for me to go back to blogging from it. So… full post tomorrow! Yay!

And when this thing is finally done, it is going to be pretty amazing. Better than it was before.

In the mean time, here is a bird dog taking a cat nap in a bar.

Site News: Almost…

The things I do for you guys. Sheesh!

My computer is nearly limping along. With any luck, tomorrow it will be operational, although it will still be missing its SSD (it has an SSD for the OS and a regular HD for my photos. The HD now has a clone of the SSD on it as a backup… quite convenient in case this happens again).

I am not looking forward to getting the SSD set back up… last time it took me almost a week by itself. And involved a tinfoil hat. (For the drive, not for me.)

Here is a picture that shows how I feel after a week of doing nothing but working on my computer.
