Dog of the Day: Adopted Chihuaha mix

This fine young lady was part of the puppies & kittens display in the window of Macy’s on Union Square this Christmas.  She was snapped up pretty quickly, as were all the dogs.  There were a lot more cats, and though a lot of them were adopted, there were (I believe) quite a few more who weren’t.

Dog of the Day: Black German Shepherd Mix

This old guy showed up not half a block from my apartment.  And he was clearly an awesome dog: the woman who was walking him said he was 14, if I recall correctly.  And still going strong; he gave me a smooch and immediately went sniffing at my backpack.  Which is where I keep my dog treats, natch.

Dogs out of SF: Irish Supplement #1

This is Autumn, your Dog of the Day Ireland correspondent, with the first installation in a series of happy, peppy, Guinness-loving* Irish dogs. I saw this guy as I was driving through Tulsk, County Roscommon, Ireland. He was spotted (but not literally) across the road from the Rathmore Mound, which was the site of a pre-Christian chiefdom. He’s probably paying homage to his royal doggy ancestors, perhaps leaving a tribute of MilkBones.

Many people think that all dogs in Ireland look the same – black and white, medium-sized, and moderately fluffy. The truth is that there are only 3 dogs in the whole country, all border collies, and they travel a LOT.

*No dogs were intoxicated in the making of this photo.

I left a "tribute" for my ancestors by your car. You might want to check your shoes.

Finn MacCool's dog, Bran, was his great-great-great-great-great-x7 granddog.

Dog of the Day: Shih Tzu

We haven’t seen one of these on here before. This one was seen in the window of The Groom Room, a dog groomery and day care on Pacific Avenue near Hyde.  On the assumption that no matter what the breed, there’s someone out there who loves them, I’m posting this fine specimen of a Shih Tzu.  (Not my favorite breed, but far from my least favorite.  They’re kind of cute and fuzzy, and are neither scared of people nor hostile to them.  It’s not their fault they’re a little bit slow.)

Fresh out of the grooming parlor; all she needs is a bow. And maybe lipstick.

Dog of the Day: Gorgeous

I haven’t the foggiest what this guy is. Could be a Golden with his ears flopping up.  Could be another breed with pointy ears. Could be a mix with foxy ears. Who knows? Who cares? In any case, he’s clearly having a blast, and he’s clearly gorgeous.

Dog or human, this is the kind of day you want to last forever.

Dog of the Day: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

I took a ‘Which Dog Breed Should You Get’ quiz yesterday, and these guys were in the top twenty.  I don’t really know much about them, except that their ears are ridiculously long and silky-soft. If I had one of these guys and a cat, I bet the cat would spend half his time wrapped up in an ear.

Hah! If you had one of us, you wouldn't NEED a cat!

Dog of the Day: Australian Shepherd

An absolutely gorgeous critter, this Australian Shepherd, seemed quite sad.  He was out there for a while, too, waiting for someone to come out of the cafe and claim him.  Poor guy.  I know I’ve felt that way a time or two myself.

Dog of the Day: Long-Haired Dachshund

Another foofly wiener!  This one’s name is Chloe, and she was both adorable and very friendly.  Two more pictures after the break.

Look at those ears! So floofy!

Dogs of the Day: Old English Sheep Dog and… umm…

I’m trying a little experiment here: a post from my iPhone. Let’s see how it goes.

We ran into this pair today, an Old English sheep dog and his mini-me. I have no idea what breed the little one is… hopefully someone out there (probably Autumn) can help me. They’re both pretty ridiculously fluffy though.

These guys were a real challenge.

Double Dog Day: Husky with Bonus Puppy!

I love this guy.  Such a goofy expression.  And check out the second picture, on the flip side, where he’s checking out a boxer puppy!

Contact your vet if your dog isn't at least this goofy sometimes.
