This bird is a lot like me: he enjoys hanging out in the Greater Vancouver Zoo, but he gets to go home when he gets tired.

Dog of the Day: Sheridan the Basenji

Sheridan (4) is the possessor of that most-sought-after of basenji attributes, the double-super-curly-tail! You can have hours of fun tugging it out straight and then letting it sproing back into position.

Dog of the Day: Wally the Chinese Crested

Wally is a fuzzier-than-usual Chinese crested. I ran into him at the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market, where there are so many feet that he has to be really careful. Or dad needs to hang onto him!

Sunday Switchup: Horſes

I ran across these two horses (and also a person) wandering through the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Their names are Adagio and Mio, and they are 23 and 22 years old respectively. (I did not, alas, note which one was which, but I think the bay — the one with the black mane — is Adagio.) When they were younger they were endurance horses, and competed in the Tevis Cup. Not something I’ve ever heard of, but apparently it’s big in horsey circles, and they are quite proud of themselves.

Now they’re retired, but they still get plenty of exercise and fun, and also plenty of scratches from newfound friends like me, in some of the prettiest spots in California. Which makes me happy. That’s how I’d like to retire!

Honorary DoSF of the Day: Fort Bragg Gold

I thought all the gold was in Fort Knox, but when I was wandering through Fort Bragg looking for a pancake breakfast, I spotted this pup. He wasn’t entirely pleased to see me: apparently his job is guarding the yard. Poor pup, you missed out on a heck of a belly rub if I do say so myself!
