Dog of the Day: Olive the ADOPTABLE Labrador Retriever Husky Mix

I met Olive at the same park I was at for the First Caturday celebration. She ran right up to me and gave me smooches, but I thought she was totally nervous because she had her tail tucked way down between her legs. Nope! Turns out she only has a half a tail! (Apparently was born that way.)

She is up for adoption at Family Dog Rescue, but hasn’t been rescued so far because she is really ill-suited to life in the shelter: when she’s there, she’s scared and shy and mostly huddles in a corner. Take her out, and, well, she becomes this fun-loving delightful dog! I’ll let her foster mom tell it in her own words:

Olive: Lab/husky. Medium size. 1.5 yr old. Easy going disposition. Just needs a bit of TLC to get used to the outside world (and she is super soft). https://www.ilovefamilydog.org/adopt/#1
She has been too shy at the shelter to be noticed and has been there way too long. My daughter and I have been socializing her regularly and now she is ready for a forever home -preferably with another dog, or someone who can take the time to make her feel safe and get used to the outside world.  She is amazingly calm and easy to train.   I’ve watched her transform in just one month of socializing.  Great with kids & other dogs.  A gem of a dog – gentle and gorgeous.

I can attest to the transformation: if she is shy in the shelter, she was only shy for moments if at all when I met her. Plus yes she is definitely super-soft. SOMEONE ADOPT THIS DOG!

I took the first three pictures. The rest (without the captions or hovertext) were sent to me by Olive’s foster mom.

Labrador Retreiver Husky Mix

Hard to believe she’s half Lab: those ears are standing tall and proud.

Labrador Retriever Husky Mix With Partial Heterochromia Looking Pensive

Olive has one and one half brown eyes and one half of a blue eye.

Husky Lab Mix With Star On Forehead And Stripe On Nose

Stripey nose. Not ALWAYS a sign of a husky, but it’s often the way to bet. Plus, neat pattern on her forehead.

Grumble

I was going to post a really awesome dog today, but you are going to have to wait until tomorrow because I do not feel like spending an hour trying to get my photo management app unwedged. Sorry ’bout that.

Caturday-on-Bunday Supplement: Mew

I snapped some pictures of adorable kitties at First Caturday, a celebration of felinity that happens every first Saturday (weather permitting) at Mission Dolores Park. I took some yesterday, but didn’t get a chance to post anything until today. So here’s a slightly belated kitty for ya!

This adventurous kitty decided to try climbing the palm they were sitting under.

Dog of the Day: Bamse the Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Bamse is a friend of yesterday’s dog, Oliver. He is 2 and is named after a Swedish cartoon bear.

Bamse had slipped his leash earlier on the day I took this, and had taken off running.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi Looking Very Goofy Indeed

Caught, of course, when he stopped to say hello to anyone who would pay him the slightest bit of attention.

Dog of the Day: Oliver the Golden Retriever Mix

Oliver is 1 and gigantohuge and very red. I don’t know if he’s an Irish setter mix or a golden mix, though I’d guess the latter. He might be mixed with Great Dane, or heck he could just be a straight, if large and rangy, golden. Whatever he is, he’s a kisser. SLURP!

Golden Retriever Mix Grinning

You can even see the little pebbly bumpy bits on the dognose! (Also, yes, that is a nice blue spot right in the middle of Oliver’s tongue.)

Dog of the Day: Olivia the Labrador Retriever Yorkshire Terrier Mix

First off, who would have thought there could be such a thing as a Lab/Yorkie mix? I mean… uh… never mind. But second off, who’d’ve thought she’d be this cute, and look like this? Olivia is one, and utterly adorable!

However, even though she’s adorable in it, Olivia does not appear to be terribly fond of her little sweater.

Sunday Switchup: #dessertisserved

These are from Dessert Is Served, a little shop right near my workplace that I just recently discovered and that I am trying my best not to visit TOO often. They may or may not have the most delicious desserts in San Francisco — the competition is so fierce! — but they certainly do have some of the prettiest.

The one on the right is ‘Rose and Hibiscus Royale’.

Caturday Supplement: Tuxedo Kittens

A pair of kittens from the ‘Christmas kitten cuddle experience’ at Macy’s. They were not being cuddled at the time I took this picture. Poor kittens.

I really need more cat pictures. Fortunately, next Caturday is a ‘First Caturday’, which means, unless it rains AGAIN, that there will be kitties in the Mission Dolores Park! Yay!

Cats and boxes. Made for each other. And no, I don’t mean the litterbox.

Dog of the Day: Knee High the (SOON-TO-BE-ADOPTABLE) Klee-Klai Mix!

I volunteered with Muttville Senior Dog Rescue a couple of weeks back, as part of a company volunteer-y-thing. I mostly spent the time licking envelopes and getting paper cuts on my tongue, but I did get to take one dog for a walk. I had ended up out of the room when the dog-choosing happened, and when I came back I was left with a rather… sedentary-looking Chihuahua. But when he didn’t want to go out at all, one of the staff slipped into a back room and came out with Knee High. And I’ll tell you what: if I had an apartment that would let me, I would have adopted him on the spot.

If you have a place, well, he’ll be up for adoption pretty soon. I’d give Muttville a call in advance, though, because trust me, he’ll be gone almost instantly.

Klee-Kai Mix Grinning

Knee-High is apparently somewhere around twelve. This would not have been my guess.

Klee-Kai Mix Grinning

I did not take Knee High out on a walk. His natural pace, even with those short legs, was fast enough that I had to run, not walk, to keep up.

Klee-Kai Mix Grinning

He was also something I hadn’t run across before, a really *competitive* dog. Every time another dog tried to catch up to us on the walk, he’d put on a burst of speed.

Klee-Kai Mix Grinning

And he kept looking over his shoulder to make sure no one was catching up. This is not me anthopomorphizing. He was seriously doing that.

Klee-Kai Mix Grinning

I gather Knee-High was taken from a not-so-great situation. He sure was happy to be at Muttville. And loved everybody.

Dog of the Day: Bichon Frise

This pup has lived in a local office for several years now. And boy has he come a long way. Why, these days you can stand in front of the door for nearly twenty seconds before he starts barking at you.

The bottom of the door kind of reminds me of those old Polaroid photos. (Oh, wait, am I dating myself again?)
