Dog of the Day: Rose the Dalmatian

When this picture was taken, Rose (11) and her mom had recently arrived from the east coast. Rose spent the entire plane ride sitting quietly in her mom’s lap. Patient dog!

Dalmatian Sitting In Woman's Lap

Dalmatians all have a very intense and slightly grumpy cast to them.

I think part of it is the fact that they often have black spots around their eyes.

Dalmatian Looking Very Serious

Part of it is that they just don’t often have the goofy-happy-face that so many other breeds seem to have. Although I think this is rather a soulful expression, absent the mascara.

Dog of the Day: The Boxer

In the grass there stands a boxer, and a puppy by his age, and he carries a reminder of every bone he’s chewed upon or hid beneath the sofa, or in the back of his cage, lie la lie…

Adolescent Boxer

That sweet face.

Dog of the Day: Cooper the Flat-Coated Retriever

I remember running into this guy, because I was surprised: hadn’t seen a brown flat-coat before. Didn’t get his name or age, though.

Edit: He’s a he, named Cooper, and he was 9 months old in the pictures (per his owner, down in the comments.) Aww! Also, it’s his birthday, so happy birthday, Cooper!

Brown Flat-Coated Retriever

I mistook him for a Chesapeake Bay retriever mix. Pretty obvious why.

He had one of the goofiest sitting postures I’ve ever seen on a dog.

BLACK CATURDAY Supplement

Well, yesterday was Black Friday, right? So doesn’t that make today Black Caturday?

Unfortunately, I don’t have any completely black cats to post, but I think these are close enough.

I love the little guy in the back. Peek!

Dog of the Day: Murphy the Wheaten Terrier/Poodle Mix

Murphy (3) is apparently a ‘woodle’! That’s half ‘woot!’ and half ‘kaboodle’, right?

I love the pose, and the coy look.

I forget what trick this was, but it was definitely on command.

Double Dog Day: Jake the Old English Sheepdog and Finn the Jack Russell Terrier Puppy

Ran into these two outside the Bell Tower, a common spot for dog sightings. Their owner had an interesting story about Finn (11 months), who is a recent rescue and rather skittish still: it seems he was rescued ‘by ultimatum’. I don’t have all the details, but as best I can recall, they called her up to come take a look at him, and when she got there they told her he had some behavioral problems and that they were just going to have to euthanize him if she didn’t take him. Harsh! Fortunately, she was willing, and she’s slowly winning him over. (Jake is 7-ish and is a big old softie who loves everyone, including Finn, so that helps.)

Sounds like Finn has a lot to be thankful for, although from what his owner said, she has a lot to be thankful to her pups for, too. How about all you dog lovers out there… have any animals you’re thankful for?

Skittish, yes. Finn was quite hard to get a picture of.

Magnificently floofy.

They have obviously been a team for a good (happy) long time.

Dog of the Day: Rudy the Jack Russell Terrier Mix Puppy

First, I want to give a quick apology to Kaci, a husky/samoyed mix I ran into in September. I really wanted to post her, because she’s gorgeously floofy, and I ran into her in a lovely courtyard on the grounds of Grace Cathedral, and because I told her dad I would. Unfortunately, it turned out to be too dark, and all of my pictures were too blurry. Sorry Kaci!

Second, meet Rudy, the 9-month-old Jack Russell mix. Rudy moved a lot faster than Kaci, but I ran into him during the day, so things worked out a little better.

Dog of the Day: English Cream Golden Retriever Puppy

I’ve been a bad, bad blogger. It was a long weekend, spent trying to set up two separate computers and work around problems with a third. One of them will be the new home to the blog (and a dozen other web sites, and my email server, and other stuff besides) though so that’s good. Unfortunately, still a bunch more work to do before it’s ready.

In the mean time, have a cute golden retriever puppy. I didn’t catch his name, I was too busy squealing and hugging him.

Dog of the Day: French Bulldog in a Baby Carriage

I didn’t take notes, but I think this pups story is that he’s kind of old and doesn’t have a lot of energy, and so if mom walks him (a couple miles) to the dog park, all he wants to do when he gets there is rest. So she pushes him instead, and then he gets in some happy playtime with all his friends.

Makes sense to me!

Bulldogs only have two expressions: delighted or disgruntled.

Dog of the Day: Eurasier

Lovely. And calm enough that I actually got a couple of pictures at night that weren’t too blurry to post.

Eurasier Dog Tied To A Parking Meter

This one was on Polk Street too. I swear, if you sat on a street corner on Polk with sandals on for long enough, one of every dog breed in the world would lick your toes.

Hmm. Sounds like a project for my retirement!
