SeaDogDay Supplement: Bloooorp!

A few Monterey sea doggies for your delectation.

Monterey Bay Female Sea Lion Sleeping On A Dock Rail

I’m pretty sure this is a female sea lion. She looks quite pretty, doesn’t she?

Male Monterey Sea Lion

The males just look a bit… less dainty.

Male Monterey Sea Lion

Oops, now I’ve offended him. Sorry, Mr. Sea Lion.

Monterey Sea Lion Basking on Tire Float

This guy has the right idea. If I were a sea lion, I’d be a Pacific Explorer.

Dog of the Day: Blaze the Flat-Coated Retriever

Ran into Blaze in Santa Cruz. He’s 7, and just a giant goofy cuddly hyper puppy. Flat-coats apparently lean in that direction, maybe even more than goldens.

Flat-Coated Retriever With Black Spotty Tongue

Spotty dog tongues sometimes look a little gross. They smooch just like the regular kind though.

Flat-Coated Retriever with Spotty Tongue

Blaze is ideally suited for the gamboling on the beaches of Santa Cruz. And since he lives right near one, I bet he does a lot of that.

Dog of the Day: Yogi the Labrador Retriever Puppy

Don’t get me wrong, I was happy to get some pictures of Yogi. But I would rather have snuck off with him, spent eight hours romping through all the dog parks in San Francisco, and then returned him (snoring gently) to his parents.

Four Month Old Labrador Retriever Puppy

That may be the happiest, stoned-est dog I have ever seen in my life.

Four-Month-Old Yellow Labrador Retriever Puppy

Well-trained pup. He knew ‘sit’ and actually stayed sat, even if he did lean far forward trying hard to give me a lick.

Four-Month-Old Yellow Labrador Retriever Puppy

That’s not a sad face… that’s pure concentration.

Dog of the Day: Ranger the Llewellyn Setter

We’ve seen a Llewellyn setter once before here, but it’s been ages (and she looked a lot different!), so I didn’t even recognize this one when I saw him. They’re kind of like the compact version of a bigger setter.

Tricolor Llewellyn Setter

Ranger was a little leery. I think he was a relatively recent rescue.

Tricolor Llewellyn Setter

I am such a sucker for dogs with orange eyebrows.

Llewellyn Setter

Looks quite a bit different than our last Llewellyn setter.

Dog of the Day: Waffle the Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier

I ran into this pup on the way home from work. His dad had just gotten to San Francisco after traveling for quite a while with his pup, and was starting a new job soon. A few days later, he called up Autumn’s dog-walking-and-pet-sitting business to see if she could take care of him while dad was at work. That didn’t end up working out, but I sure hope he found a good solution to the problem.

Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier Mix

Danger! If you see this dog, do not approach too closely unless you want to be smooched mercilessly!

Dog of the Day: Maxwell the German Shepherd Mix

Another ‘teacup’ German shepherd. Max is 1.5 years old, and not four months as I would have suspected. It didn’t help that he acts a lot like a puppy, albeit a well-behaved one.

Tiny German Shepherd Mix, Black Muzzle, Tan body, Cream Chest

Almost looks like a German shepherd/pug mix in this picture!

Pack puppy. I love dogs that can carry around their own dog food.

Obligatory dognose shot.

Max knows a few tricks, but this is the only one I got a shot of.

LadyBirdDay Supplement: Beetle!

I found a little friend on my rambles. I picked her up and put her on my shoulder and took her for a walk, and then, when I got back, returned her to her garden and went on my way. (Autumn’s not entirely fond of ladybugs, since her house was infested by thousands of a Japanese beetle that is similar in appearance but stinks! But I’m a big fan. They are so cheerful and pretty, and they eat aphids. How can you go wrong?)

Ladybird Beetle

They look like they’re made out of candy or something.

Dog of the Day: Sophie the Miniature Australian Shepherd Runt

Sophie is a wiggly little 7-month-old pup, but that’s not why 70 percent of the pictures of I took of her were so blurry that I couldn’t even tell they were of a dog. I had the misfortune to run into her in a shady area on a quite dim day. Curse the luck.

Small Tricolor Miniature Australian Shepherd

Sophie might have been the runt of the litter (she’s tiny even for a miniature Aussie), but you’d never know it from her ankle-seeking cuddle-happy demeanor.

Small Tricolor Miniature Australian Shepherd

Such a serious expression.

Small Tricolor Miniature Australian Shepherd

The allure of a mini-Aussie, as opposed to the full-sized one. This pup will stay just the right size for this kind of mind-meltingly cute behavior all her life.

Small Tricolor Miniature Australian Shepherd

Eee! The foldy paws!

Dog of the Day: Blanc the White Shepherd Dog

Another breed that I never knew existed, although apparently ‘Bolt,’ from the Disney movie of the same name, was one. Blanc is only 5 months old, according to my notes, and is totally adorable according to my best judgement.

White Shepherd Dog, 5 Months Old

You can tell Blanc still has some filling out to do, but I doubt we’re going to see much more height.

White Shepherd Dog, 5 Months Old

Super-cute. I love German shepherds, and these pups are just as beautiful.

White Shepherd Dog, 5 Months Old

Not shown: dad’s hand, holding something yummy-smelling. Well, to dogs.

Dog of the Day: Zach the Akbash

I’ve run into this pup before, but it was evening and none of my pictures came out. I was so happy to see him again! I think you’ll agree that he is utterly awesome.

Akbash Dog with Heterochromia (One Brown Eye and One Blue Eye)

I have ‘the lazy guy’ down in my notes about Zach. I can’t quite recall why.

Akbash Dog with Heterochromia (One Brown Eye and One Blue Eye)

Okay, that’s pretty goofy-looking.

Akbash Dog with Heterochromia (One Brown Eye and One Blue Eye)

Grapevine! I learned that dance step when I was in a musical.

Akbash Dog with Heterochromia (One Brown Eye and One Blue Eye)

Someone knows how to enjoy life, lazy or not.
