Dog of the Day: Barrett the Akita/Australian Shepherd

An akita/Australian shepherd: a combo I never would have thought of. However, they are two of the prettiest breeds I’ve ever seen. And this pup’s dad was pretty sure that was what he was.

Funny thing, though… both of those breeds are generally pretty fluffy. This guy had fur shorter than any Aussie or akita I’ve seen.

Two pictures moved below the break.

Akita/Australian Shepherd Mix

Look at that friendly face. Someone's figured out that in San Francisco, a stranger is just a belly rub you haven't cadged yet.

Double Dog Day: Bud and Cali the Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retrievers

This breed gets my vote for whackiest name: it conjures images of toll gates in the sky.

The usual excuses apply: it wasn’t fully light outside, the light was at a bad angle, my camera sucks, I am a terrible photographer, and so on. Some of the pictures at least turned out well enough that you could identify these two in a lineup, I think.

Their mom is a big dog-fan, who was talking about wanting to do a San Francisco dog book. The more, the merrier!

Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retriever

This, I think, is Cali. I can't tell for sure: my notes say that Cali is the smaller one, but none of the pictures with both of them turned out.

Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retriever

Assuming I'm right about the above, then that means this is Bud. Note the larger amount of white foofliness at the chest.

Double Dog Day: Wolf/Malamute and Wolf/Malamute/Coyote (?)

I ran into these two on my way to work. The first one is the mother of the second one. Their doguardian says she is pretty sure the mom is a wolf/malamute cross, and that she escaped one day and may have found a coyote, which resulted in the second one. Wish I’d gotten more pictures: the second one definitely looks coyote-ish from the side. And both of them are really friendly and happy.

Alas, I didn’t get their names.

Malamute/Wolf Mix

This is mom. The amount of fluff is amazing. Also, check out those spectacles!

Malamute/Wolf/Coyote Mix

And this gal is just super-gorgious. That tail! Plus, you'll note that the picture makes her look like she was dancing. Yes, she really moves pretty much like that.

Dog of the Day: Lulu the Standard Poodle

Lulu is a whole lot of dog! She kind of reminds me of a muppet.

Second picture moved below the fold.

Black Standard Poodle

Poodles with poodle cuts are dopey-looking. Poodles without poodle cuts are awesome.

Dog of the Day: Small Scruffy White Terrier Thing

I’m so lousy with identifying the small scruffy terriers. I really don’t know what this guy-or-gal is.

Two pictures moved below the fold.

Scruffy Indeterminate White Doglet

Oh my God... 1970 wants its dog vest back?

Dog of the Day: Malia the Samoyed

I don’t know, I just don’t know. I’ve seen quite a few Samoyeds in my time, and I’ve never seen one quite like Malia. Her coloration is a little darker than any I’ve seen before. (I’m not sure if it conforms to AKC or not… apparently they can be ‘biscuit’ colored, but it doesn’t appear that anyone is willing to define biscuit coloration.) I thought her proportions were a little off too, but the more I look at the pictures, and at pictures online of Samoyeds, the more I realize that I’m on crack. Oh, and that I’m wrong about the proportions, too.

That said, she’s ADORABLE! And fluffy and cute and cuddly and happy and just about everything you could want a dog to be. Except ours. Le sigh.

Oh, by the way, I’ve included my first ‘dog rap’ in the hovertext for the photos. Please take any criticism out and bury it in the yard. And I’ve now stuck five of the six pictures below the break.

Samoyed

Malia was super-photogenic. Sadly, her parents weren't as well trained, since they stood in her light in just about every photo.

Dog of the Day: A Quick Corgi Pic

Didn’t get home until after 1 AM last night, and didn’t have any pictures queued up, so I didn’t get anything posted until now… and now I’m at work. So here’s a quick apology corgi.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

A corgi in one of his more serious moments.

Dog of the Day: Eddie the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Beagle Mix

Eddie is a whole lot of dog in a small package. He’s multi-talented!

Four more pics, now tucked below the break.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Beagle Mix

He's a very obedient pup... for perhaps fifteen seconds at a time. I'm sure that number will go up when he grows up a little more.

Dog of the Day: American Cocker Spaniel

Don’t look now, but there’s a happy cocker spaniel coming your way! (Just one pic tonight, since I’m feeling lazy.)

American Cocker Spaniel

She's comin'! She's comin'! Better hide right now if you don't want your ankles licked!

Dog of the Day: Sammie the Foxhound (?) Mix

Sammie was a perfect lady, even despite her temporary impediment. Beagle/Labrador retriever was her mom’s guess, but those ears just couldn’t have come from that combination, I don’t think. Plus, her body and her head are very similar to that of a foxhound. I don’t know what gives her ears that special little loft, though: must be from the other side of the family.

Dropped two additional pictures below the fold.

Foxhound Mix

I guess she does look a little less than happy with her 'cone of shame' in this picture.
