I was on BART today, riding on out to the East Bay, and I kept thinking I heard meowing noises, even over the sound of the train and the audiobook I was listening to. Honestly, I thought I was going a little nuts. And then I heard someone say to a little boy, “Yes, they have kittens!” And sure enough, there was a box full of little kittens, not far away.
I know, I know, it would have been a bad thing to have opened the box. But still. Kittens!
Melt.
I’ve been a bad boy: I disappeared from my blog without notice for three days. I can only plead a very busy week, work-wise, probably the busiest since I started this job almost two years ago. Next week promises to be much more reasonable.
Anyway. It’s Friday. Have a Berner.

He only looks depressed. In reality, he was sitting on dad’s lap out in front of a really awesome pizzeria, and (it is strongly implied) getting his share of the pizza.

Look who I ran into while wandering Fillmore Street on Saturday! Bentley is a girl, and may well be older than you, at 27 years of age. I asked where the name came from, and her dad told me that he was warned that she was ‘high-maintenance’, so it seemed appropriate. Well, she’s not just happy wandering down a street in San Francisco, she’s also happy hanging out on a stranger’s finger for a minute or two, so I figure things could be worse. And so, it appears, does she.
Everything about her is gorgeous. Including those eyes. So pretty.
He was snoozing in the tall grass and poked his head out when I walked by.
The stripe on the nose is quite unusual. Pretty too.
Charlie is 5, and was recently quite thoroughly shorn. Hope it all grows back in okay!
Leashes are such a hassle, especially when you have four legs.
The ploof on the end of the tail was magnificent.
The one in the blue collar is Harvey (1 year old), and the one who is completely crazy-goofy-dorable is Maggie, who is 3. Sometimes expectations are confounded.
Talk about a handful. That’s even more muscle mass than a pair of Berners. They take off running and you aren’t going to stand still no matter who you are.
I think the gentleman walking these two was actually visiting from France. You have to admire the dedication of someone who would manage to bring these two along on such a trip.

Found in the Goorin Brothers hat store in North Beach. A very, very subtle misdirection: in case you were deceived, that is in fact an ice bucket, not a fedora.
Anyone else think it’s funny? No? Oh well.
These two were actually great friends, from what I could tell. I think perhaps this was partly the result of the dog knowing just how much he was outclassed by a cat who outweighed him.
What a gorgeous cat. And the dog looks like a teeny tiny Labrador retriever.
Apparently they like to go out to parks and sniff around. Hey, who am I to judge?
I just adore that coloration, especially the stripes.
