Sunday Switchup: Juju’s Pupcakes

Someone out there makes the most ridiculous tasty treats for dogs that I have ever seen.

Pupcakes! Puppy Cupcakes!

I would totally eat those if I weren’t on a diet. And, well, if they didn’t taste like liver.

Pupcakes! Puppy Cupcakes!

These are seriously making me crave sweets. Good for the dog, bad for the owner?

Caturday Supplement: Sleepy Park Tiger Tabby

Most cats are pretty territorial. But some cats actually do like going out and exploring new places. This one wandered around the park a bit (on quite a long leash) and sniffed at more or less everything before coming back and falling asleep against dad’s leg.

I wonder if you can train a cat to be like that if you take him out and play with him in lots of places as a kitten.

Pretty kitty. Very distinctive markings. I wonder if it’s some special breed?

Dog of the Day: Foofly Wiener

I haven’t mentioned it recently, so for the uninitiated: ‘foofly wiener’ is Autumn’s and my name for long-haired dachshunds and mini-dachshunds. This is a lovely example of the breed.

Going to see if I can do some editing and winnowing of CorgiCon pictures this weekend, and post them early next week.

Cream Long-Haired Miniature Dachshund Grinning

Looks like a miniature golden retriever with no legs, right down to the grin.

Dog of the Day: Eros the Saint Bernard

It’s always a good day when I see one of these fine fellows hanging around the city. Eros is three and a half years old, and weighs a mighty 170 pounds. I would not want to be walking him when he decided he wanted to go a different direction than I did. But I don’t think he would, he seems like a very polite gentleman.

Woman Letting A Man's Saint Bernard Sniff Her Hand

As you can see, I’m not the only one who is happy to see a Saint Bernard.

Two Women Petting Man's Saint Bernard

I think in the 2 minutes or so I was taking pictures, seven or eight people stopped to pet this dog.

Saint Bernard Smiling

Saint Bernards have the most ridiculous grins — and tongues — ever.

Well, they’ve also got an excessive supply of ‘happy’, so I guess the grin makes sense.

Dog of the Day: Seva the Korean Jindo

Seva (3 years old, and a rescue) was reeeeeally not happy to meet me. Apparently that is her typical attitude towards strangers, but I sometimes get lucky and hit it off with the shy ones. Not Seva. Her mom said, “If you knew her last year, you’d know that this is great progress. She’s relatively calm as long as you stay ten feet away, now.” Well then.

(Incidentally, does anyone else think that she looks an awful lot like a larger cousin of the doge?)

(Also incidentally, if I’ve taken pictures of your pup and haven’t posted them yet, drop a comment in one of my other posts and remind me!)

Korean Jindo Dog Being Very Very Submissive

Classic signaling… tail tucked as hard as she can, not looking directly at me but trying to keep me in vision. Ears are hard to tell from this angle but they’re held outward. She’s submitting as hard as she can, poor thing.

Dog of the Day: Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel Mix

A friendly sort. Just don’t get between him and his fruit.

Golden Retriever Cocker Spaniel Mix Tied To A Hand Truck

Out in front of a fruit market. I didn’t get his name, but I think his dad said he liked carrots.

Golden Retriever Cocker Spaniel Mix Grinning

Look at that smile.

Dog of the Day: Bobo Wolverine the Pomeranian

Banana-banna-Bobo-Wolverine! He’s a year old, and feisty as all get-out. But when he barks he only means one thing: WHY ARE YOU NOT PETTING ME OR PLAYING WITH ME NOW? NOW NOW NOW! I AM ADORABLE AND I LIKE YOU SO PET ME!

And lo, he is indeed adorable. And lo, I did indeed pet him.

Black And Tan Fluffy Pomeranian Singing The Blues

Don’t see a lot of black and tan Poms around. Too bad, they’re gorgeous.

Black And Tan Fluffy Pomeranian Singing The Blues

He was very, very vocal. Hope he isn’t like that at night.

Black And Tan Fluffy Pomeranian Standing On His Hind Legs And Looking Goofy

This, on the other hand, is not him barking. This is mom dangling food above his head.

Black And Tan Pomeranian Play-Bowing

This is the classic ‘play with me!’ pose.

Sunday Switchup: Comfy Statue

I have been walking by this guy at least two ore three times a week on the way to work for most of the last 12 years now, at three different jobs. For a while he vanished and then he reappeared — apparently he was stolen, and then recovered — but most of the time he just hangs out there, looking suave. And also, at least to someone, cold, because when I went by him one day last week he was wearing quite a nice jacket.

He’s got to be Hermes, right? Or, if not, at least some other messenger. He’s got the wingéd ankles.

Statue Of Man With Winged Feet

He looks pretty relaxed, whoever he is.

Dog of the Day: Lola the Siberian Husky

Whatever Lola (3) wants, Lola gets.

(Don’t forget, CorgiCon is tomorrow! Meet me there! I will be the one crying because his camera can only hold 40 gigs of photos.)

Siberian Husky With Blue Eyes Looking Intent

Lola is a strong-willed individual. Well, of course, she’s a husky.

Siberian Husky With Blue Eyes Smiling

A very intense stare… and a pretty, happy smile.

Siberian Husky With Blue Eyes Looking Goofy

And of course the patented husky goofball expression.

DoggiEvent: Bay Area Pet Fair

Yet another big pet event this weekend that I didn’t know about: the Bay Area Pet Fair in San Rafael! If you’re not just looking for cuteness (because let’s face it, the CorgiCon can’t be beat in that regard), but are also looking for a pet of your very own, you should apparently go to this, because it is “The Largest Gathering of Adoptable Animals in California History.” That’s a lot of pets! Even I would not try to adopt that many pets, and I am well known for wanting all the pets.

I am not sure if I will be going or not. I am not sure if I am emotionally prepared to run into this many adoptable dogs when I STILL can’t get one of my own. But we shall see.
