Dog of the Day: Penny the Carolina Dog

My notes say “Penny, 6-ish, Carolina dog, aka American dingbat”. I think that may be a little harsh, don’t you? Sure, she’s a little silly, but… ohhh. Wait. That must be an autocorrect from ‘American dingo’.

Can Penny really be our first Carolina dog? Looks that way!

Carolina Dog, AKA American Dingo, Sitting And Looking Thoughtful

She really does look a surprising amount like a dingo.

That black eyeliner really makes the outfit.

Sunday Switchup: Funky Shadows

I think these might have been the result of some kind of multiple-LED streetlight? They remind me of the kind of shadows you get from leaves during a solar eclipse. Funky!

Fractal Leaf Shadows

It kind of puts me in mind of a snowflake. Also, looking too long gives me a headache.

Caturday Supplement: Sleeping Macy’s Window Marmie

♫ How much for that marmie in the window? The adoption fees are most reasonable! ♩ (Well, it’s hardly Gilbert and Sullivan, but it’ll do.)

We’re now in a race, to see whether I run out of Macy’s window kitties before the next Macy’s window season starts. Cross your fingers.

Marmalade Tiger Tabby Sleeping On A Cat Bed

I wonder if you can use Macy’s gift cards to adopt Macy’s window kitties? THE WORLD WANTS TO KNOW!!

Dog of the Day: Abby the Border Collie

Abby (7) demands petting! You will obey!

Black And White Border Collie Lying On The Sidewalk

I love the dipped-in-white-paint tailtip.

Dog of the Day: Brody the Yorkie Puppy

Brody stopped me in my tracks on my way in to work a week or two ago. He’s pint-sized (three months old!) but he’s got a pony-keg’s worth of attitude… all of it good.

Three Month Old Yorkshire Terrier Puppy

There’s this neat hip-high wall/rise around Huntingdon Park, which is what he’s standing on.

It makes a great photographic pedestal for dogs.

It also — just barely — keeps them far enough away to photograph. Usually.

Dog of the Day: Luna the Pit Bull/Labrador Retriever Puppy

Luna was one of the guests at a little Friday afternoon party thrown by my employer last week. She was, of course, a hit, not only with the kids but with many of the grown-ups as well. (And with me. Who fits comfortably in neither group.)

She reeeeeeeally liked the smells coming from the food truck that was catering for us, the ‘Voodoo Van‘.

Little Girl And Little Boy Meeting Black Pit Bull Labrador Retriever Mix Puppy

Oh, that’s right, there were some other cute things at the party besides dogs, weren’t there?

If I’d stood there all day and pointed my camera at the kids and the dog I would have gotten cute shot after cute shot. Unfortunately, the food truck was calling my name.

I love the little boy’s expression in this one.

This is only a few minutes later. I think the two kids plumb wore him out!

Dog of the Day: Nymeria the Alaskan Malamute

Okay, okay, so she’s named after one of the wolf-y things from that TV show that everyone else seems to follow but me. I don’t care, she is gorgeous and happy and my new friend so there.

Mismarked Silver Alaskan Malamute In A Drug Store

I ran into Nymeria shopping at Walgreens.

Those are some strange markings for a malamute, never seen anything quite like them before.

Definitely had the malamute attitude, though. Playful, friendly, and mischievous.

If you have to stand behind someone in the pharmacy line, it might as well be an awesome dog.

Dog of the Day: Gomez the Harlequin Great Dane

Two things things about Gomez: one, he is nine! That’s pretty good for a Great Dane, and he seems to be in pretty good shape, getting around all right, able to see just fine (the unusual-colored eyes are just his coloration, not anything wrong), and so forth. He’s a sweetheart, too, but you didn’t need me to tell you that… just about every Great Dane is.

Two, ‘Gomez’ as a dog’s name always reminds me of the old Eric Bogle song… about a Chihuahua named Little Gomez who has an ill-fated romantic liaison with a St. Bernard. A Great Dane doesn’t quite fit the profile.

Don’t think I’ve ever run across a Dane with blue eyes before.

That’s Jazz, who seemed quite happy to meet this gentle giant.

Sunday Switchup: San Francisco City Hall At Sunset

Last Thursday night the sunset was quite pretty, and I just happened to be walking by City Hall at the right time.

San Francisco City Hall At Sunset

Our sunsets are usually pretty tame. It’s nice to have an exception every once in a while.

Caturday Supplement: Derpy Kitty

Saw this kitty while wandering around Oakland. Super-derp!

Big Fluffy Derpy Tuxedo Cat With Tongue Sticking Out Sitting

He’s just big-boned! No, it’s all fluff! (I know all of these excuses. I use them for myself all the time.)

Big Fluffy Derpy Tuxedo Cat Walking Towards The Camera

It’s always nice to see an outdoor kitty who is up for a little attention.

Of course, once I started petting him, he wouldn’t let me stop.
