Double Dog Day: Desi and Satchie the Shelties

No, I don’t know which is which. I do recall wondering if Satchie was named after Satchmo, a nickname for Louis Armstrong. I don’t see Louis Armstrong as a Sheltie, but this wouldn’t be the first time someone else saw something I didn’t.

Two Tricolor Shelties (Shetland Sheepdogs)

They're poofly! Not sure what that thing sticking out of the standing one's fur is.

We'll arbitrarily call this one 'Desi'.

Which makes this one "Satchie."

Dog of the Day: Shiba Inu

A playful pup for you today. You’re just in time for her act!

Shiba Inu

Shiba Inus: the 'foxiest' dogs around.

Shiba Inu

Check out that trick. Super-well-trained pup.

Shiba Inu

Funny how the tail in this picture is totally 100% curled, and in the last picture it was mostly uncurled.

Just in case anyone doesn't know, the lyrics in the hovertext are sung to the Barry Manilow song 'Copacabana'.

Dog Dance of the Day: German Shepherd Mix and Black Lab

Black Labrador Retriever and German Shepherd Mix

Okay, they're not dancing. But they're not really fighting, either. They were just having a blast playing with one another.

Dog of the Day: Sophie the Kuvasz

This is your early Merry Christmas dog!

Kuvasz hiding behind a Christmas wreath.

Who's the Christmas goofball? It's Sophie the Kuvasz!

Kuvasz

Mom was picking Sophie up from the bath. Sophie was jumping up on mom, so mom said 'Sit!' And Sophie was DELIGHTED to sit.

Blurry Kuvasz

Sorry for the small size of this... it's too blurry for words in larger sizes, but I thought the expression was worth it.

Dog of the Day: I Dunno!

The ears are pure German shepherd, but I’ve never seen a shepherd mix without at least a little bit of the German shepherd markings. The fur is pure golden retriever, but I’ve never seen a golden mix with fully erect ears. From the expression, I’d suspect him of being a husky or malamute mix, and the ears are similar-ish, but the fur just seems so odd…

Unknown Mixed Breed

Also, the expression looks happy and mellow, but the tail is tucked so far down you can barely tell it's there at all.

Dog of the Day: Toto the Toy Poodle

Oh my god, it’s a muppet! No, it’s a teeny tiny bear! No, it turns out it’s a 10-month-old brown toy poodle named Toto.

Brown Toy Poodle

I think this may be the cutest toy poodle I have ever seen. They're so much cuter when they're not turned into topiary.

Brown Toy Poodle

Toto is definitely not one to hold still while his picture is taken.

Danger! Teeny-tiny levels of pink puppytongue detected!

Dog of the Day: Martini the Sad Greyhound

This is Martini. She’s a rescue greyhound, rescued after only one race. Apparently she didn’t do terribly well, which was great news for her. She’s a little shy, but warms up to people quickly.

But she’s a sad pup, because her sister Olive passed away recently, from an autoimmune issue. Poor gal. At least she’s being treated very well: dad is even bringing her in to work, to make sure she doesn’t get too lonesome without her sister.

Martini the Greyhound

Whenever I see a greyhound, especially one with this coloration, I always think of a dainty little doe.

Martini the Greyhound

Their bodies always look so odd at rest, but when you see them running, especially just for the joy of it, when they're playing with other dogs, they look so graceful.

Martini the Greyhound

It's not just the body and stance that look doelike... the shape of the face, and the eyes, do too.

Multiple Confusing Dog Day!

The gentleman/dog in the picture is ‘The Dog Man’, who apparently hangs out in the touristier areas of San Francisco with his pups and charges for pictures. Well, I was game. The dogs are: Daisy (dalmation), Ernie (rat terrier), and Pickles (chihuahua/papillon).

The second picture is the first appearance (so far as I can recall) of me on this site. Hooray! Or something!

The Dog Man of San Francisco and His Dogs

The dogs look a little bored. Well, they were. Why? Because they wanted to be down off that bench meeting all those EXCITING PEOPLE!

Me and the Dog-Man's Dogs

A trio of sweethearts. Not shown: the Chihuahua abruptly turning around, reaching up, and licking my chin.

A Dog Dressed as Charlie Chaplin?

I'm normally against clothing for animals, but I have to admit, the little hat really makes the picture.

Dog of the Day: Sheltie

Super-poofly Shetland Sheepdog for you.

Shetland Sheep Dog

I can't get over Shelties. "Lassie after being hit by a shrink ray."

Dog of the Day: Unknown Mixed Breed

I really like this guy but I’m not even going to hazard a guess what he is. Aside from ‘super-friendly’.

Two more pictures below the break.

Mixed Breed

Look at that plaintive expression. Someone told him to lie down, but they didn't tell him not to solicit hugs.
