Caturday Supplement: A Boy And His Cat

I ran into this guy taking his cat out for a walk. Needless to say, he was surrounded by admirers, and got a bit of attention from some passing dogs as well. I didn’t quite catch the kitty’s name: it was somewhere between Buffy and Poppy, with a possible stop at Fluffy or Floppy. Well, whatever, pretty cute.

Also, my point-and-shoot camera (Canon SX260 HS) just semi-died after two years and four months of service (which is to say, four months out of my credit-card-extended warranty), so most of my pictures are liable to be iPhone until I can figure out what to replace it with.

Man Petting Leashed Tiger Tabby Cat

He was actually less skittish than the looks in these pictures. Still not exactly delighted though.

Tiger Tabby Cat Looking Fixedly Downward

As best I could make out, he was looking at someone’s toes.

I’ve lived here for over ten years now, but Polk Street never ceases to provide amusement.

Man Holding Tiger Tabby Cat

Hmm. Checked flannel shirt. Sunglasses. Walking a cat in San Francisco.

He really was remarkably tolerant in terms of human contact.

Man Holding Tiger Tabby Cat

I’m not very good at reading feline expressions. It’s a lot harder than dogs. Ears erect and forward, but eyes open and pupils constricted (though that might just be because it’s bright.) Wary but not alarmed, maybe?

Dog of the Day: Mochi the American Eskimo Dog

Who knew a shorn Eskie would look like a Pomeranian?

Shaved American Eskimo Dog Grinning At The Camera

The expression also reminds me of a Pomeranian: pure joy.

Dog of the Day: Zoe the German Shorthaired Pointer Puppy

For some reason, Zoe/Zoey/Zoë/Zooey is one of the more common dog names I’ve seen. Not sure why, but it works for me.

This particular Zoe is a 10-month-old German shorthaired pointer who loves long walks and longer runs.

Lovely eyes.

Dog of the Day: Finn the Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retriever Puppy With a Broken Leg

Poor Finn! Well, maybe not… he sure wasn’t letting it slow him down any.

Finn has an instagram page, ‘finnthetoller‘, whereon you will see OMG RIDICULOUS pictures of Finn. The younger puppy ones are too cute for words, or even inarticulate squeaking sounds.

The picture looks a little weird, kind of like he’s glowing. This is not the camera’s fault. This is what Finn looks like in person, too.

I can’t remember the source of the injury. I just remember it was a broken leg and he’s gonna be fine.

Poooor dooooog. You can just FEEL the pathos. Or maybe that’s just dog drool.

Dog of the Day: Cher the American Pit Bull Terrier/Basset Hound Mix

I don’t know this gal’s name, and the dog tags aren’t helping any (unless her name is ‘SF Dog License’) but she’s awesome. I am like 90% sure I’ve taken pictures of her before, and I may even have posted some, but if so I can’t find them.

Edit: Dad weighs in in the comments! She’s a she, she’s Cher, and they think she might be a basset/pit/border collie/lab or something like that. Anyway, I ran into her again recently and she’s just as awesome as I remember.

She has a very dignified expression in most of my pictures.

She has absolutely perfect ears. Anyone know what that kind of ear is called?

Se was very serious about her petting.

Ran into her in Lafayette Park, which explains why I didn’t get her name. Just too many dogs around to get all of their names.

Dog of the Day: Boo the Great Pyrenees

I first saw Boo way back in 2010. He’s still a charmer, although he had a bit of a handicap in that department when I took these pictures.

Great Pyrenees Drooling Rather Heavily

We’ve all been there. I have the alarming tendency to walk around with a smudge of chocolate on my face.

Not sure what that expression is about.

Sunday Switchup: My Belated Christmas Gift

Autumn’s mom wanted to give me something for Christmas. She’s a painter, and did a cute little iPhone holster for me a couple of years back, so I suggested another one: I leave one at work, with my belt and shoes, so I can jog in with a very small backpack and shower and change there. So it’d be nice to have one for home.

I only gave her the actual holster at Christmas, so obviously the gift would be a bit belated. But it finally came, and it is awesome.

SO. CUTE.

A close-up. I am willing to bet that I am now the proud owner of the cutest iPhone holster in the world.

Caturday Supplement: Macy’s Window Kitten

Another grey and white floofly kitty! I’m spoiling y’all.

Grey And White Long-Haired Kitten Staring Intently

That’s a very intense expression.

One of the downsides to peering through the Macy’s windows: you can’t hear the adorable little mews.

Dog of the Day: Charlotte the Cocker Spaniel Puppy

Autumn and Charlotte sharing their deepest secrets. Charlotte is 10 months old, and is adorable.

This is literally the only time she stood still enough for me to get a picture.

Dog of the Day: Laszlo, An Alaskan Malamute In San Francisco

I’ve run into Laszlo (3.5 years old) once before, but only in the dark, so I never managed to get any good pictures, or even see him very clearly. A friend of mine has run into him a couple more times than I have, and he’s her favorite dog in the world. After a look at some pictures, and maybe at his facebook page, I think you’ll be able to figure out why. (Warning: facebook page contains a puppy picture in which Laszlo looks like a raccoon… scroll all the way down.)

I choose to believe that Laszlo always looks this happy.

He certainly did the entire time I was there. And the tail never stopped wagging.

This is not the first woolly malamute we’ve seen here. Anyone else remember Mishka?

You just want to throw your arms around his neck and bury your face in the fuzz.
