Puppy Week, Day 1: Boo the Labrador Retriever/Boxer Mix Puppy

I have been luckier than I deserve over the past couple of weeks: I have run into and had my face licked by a surprising number of puppies. So I’m going to spread the joy out this week: I hereby declare this PUPPY WEEK!

Boo is our first puppy: 6 months old, and she is a real sweetie. Being half lab, she’s very smart and sweet, and being half boxer, she’s very confused and sweet. That’s 200% sweet by unit volume!

I totally mistook Boo for a pit mix, but apparently not.

Eee, little white goatee!

Caturday Supplement: Bebe the Unhappy Grey Tiger Kitten

Autumn and I ran into Bebe late one evening at a local animal shelter and hospital. We were there to scan the microchip of a certain dog that was found wandering the streets of Russian Hill. The only other animal in the room was Bebe the 9-month-old kitten, who was being very quiet. I of course had to go over to say hello, but Bebe wasn’t really in the mood to talk to me, because she’d managed to pull out one of her claws in an accident.

She’d had some other bad luck too: she was originally found in Bayview (one of the rougher neighborhoods of San Francisco) with two bbs in her (hence the name) and a broken tail. Fortunately, she’s got a good home now, so hopefully she’ll get a little less clumsy and not have to worry about injuries for a good long time.

Dog of the Day: Bumper the Old English Sheepdog

Bumper (3) is also known as ‘Bumpy’ and ‘Bumps’, although she does not have more bumps than the average dog. Exactly why this is is a mystery unknown to science.

Grey And White Shaved Old English Sheepdog

She’s well-shorn, that’s for sure. And a good thing, too… bet it gets hot under there when they’re not!

I’m not sure why, but I really like this picture.

She is one of the few dogs who managed to get a good lick at my lens before I could back away.

Dog of the Day: Window-Pomeranian

This little guy spent a lot of time in the window at a business just down the street from my office. They moved out, unfortunately, so I haven’t seen him in ages. It’s a shame, he was a real cutie.

Funny, I never saw him basking in the sun, just when it was shady in there.

I love that tightly curled tail.

No, he didn’t actually take off his shirt… this is from a couple days later. Same spot, though.

Dog of the Day: Jake the Somewhat Foofly Wiener

He’s kind of got that ‘mullet’ thing going on… long on the bottom and short on top.

Chocolate Long-Haired Dachshund

Jake was 2 when this was taken… which was some time ago. He’s 3 by this time.

I need a photo category: ‘dogs sticking their tongues out at me.’ Bet I’d have in the hundreds of pictures in it.

Dog of the Day: Greater Swiss Mountain Dog? Or GREATEST Swiss Mountain Dog?

Either way, I’d say she’s pretty great.

Greater Swiss Mountain Dog

I haven’t gotten to play with a Greater Swiss. Anyone know if they’re as goofy and fun as Berners (closely related) are?

Look at that bashful smile. Just makes me want to hug her.

Dog of the Day: German Shepherd Puppy

So I was thinking of making this week Australian shepherd week, and then I ran across this puppy, and could not resist posting her today. So maybe Australian shepherd week is next week.

Look at those ears.

Apparently giving water bottles to teething puppies for chewing is a thing.

She sure seemed to like it.

The ears are always standing up, but they seem to lean against one another more or less at random.

So. Cute.

Dog of the Day: Mogul the … Something

Autumn and I ran into Mogul in company of his dad, who insisted that he was actually a giant American Eskimo dog. I wasn’t going to argue with him, but I have never even heard of an Eskie as big as Mogul. Still, stranger things have happened.

Someone sure has a great smile, whatever he is.

Dog of the Day: Klee Kai

Sorry, no caturday today: I’ve been pressed into service as Autumn’s cab service, and probably won’t be able to post from my computer until at least 1 or 2 AM Sunday, when I get home. And by then I won’t be in any mood for posting.

Fortunately, I have a couple cute pictures on my phone that I can post. Though I didn’t get this adorable pup’s name.

Dog of the Day: Milo the Melanistic Red Panda (or Possibly Pomeranian)

Okay, first off, take a look at these pictures of Milo. And then I want you to go to this page and check out the picture of the red panda. And then come back and look again at the last picture of Milo.

Now tell me that Milo doesn’t look like a red panda that got a quick hair dye job at one of our local pet grooming establishments. Go on. Tell me. I dare you.
