Dog of the Day: Charlie Brown the Labrador Retriever/Weimaraner/Pit Bull/Hound

I’ve been holding onto Charlie (girl) for around six months now. Why? Because I just had too many good pictures of her. I just couldn’t choose, say, ten. But today I’m watching the Puppy Bowl, and so I have plenty of time for weighty cuteness-related decisions.

This pup is an expert wiggler.

Look at that happy face.

See what I mean? Look at that dog. How could I choose just a few pictures?

Mom had just recently adopted Charlie recently, but they were already getting along great.

Now that’s a big yawn. Nice teeth too!

Charlie was stuck between ‘I want to play!’ and ‘I want belly rubs!’

It’s a dilemma I wouldn’t mind more of myself!

My god, this dog ought to be in the movies. Or advertising something.

Look at that belly. The belly!

Like I said… expert wiggler.

Dog of the Day: Lucy the Great Dane Puppy

My notes seem to be off… they say I ran into Lucy two days later than I took these pictures, but I can’t see anyone else who could be a 6-month-old Great Dane than this sweetie here, and I sure don’t see any other names that could be her, either. So I hereby decree this to be Lucy!

(Sorry, no cats today. Autumn brought some back from her trip, though, so expect more soon!)

The perfectly-sized pony for someone, say, three years old.

Great Danes look tremendously goofier with their ears un-clipped. (Say no to ear clipping! Say yes to more goofy dogs! Everyone wins!)

Haven’t had a nose shot for some time.

PuppiEvent: The Puppy Bowl!

Just a reminder to all of you people who aren’t into football: if you weren’t planning on being in front of a TV this Sunday, maybe you should revise your plans. Because The Puppy Bowl (IX!) will be showing, and this year in addition to its kitten halftime show, it features hedgehog cheerleaders.

I’m not sure I can handle that level of ridiculousness, but I sure as heck am going to try.

Dog of the Day: White German Shepherd

Could be a mix, could just be a straight shepherd. Quite pretty, either way, no? Looks a lot like Vlad, except goofier.

White German Shepherd

This guy has a reddish nose with black speckles on it.

White German Shepherd

Those ears. It’s hard to take a dog seriously when his ears stick out that far to the sides.

I think I see a little smile

Dog of the Day: Ka-Floofy American Eskimo Dog

I like this one. She’s got a mind of her own.

American Eskimo Dog

Eskies have the softest fur ever. Best sleeping bag in the world: two huskies (one for each side) and an Eskie as a pillow.

American Eskimo Dog

Okay, yes, this one was a little timid. But hey, I’m scary, I know.

American Eskimo Dog

Such a delicate ear. You could practically read through it.

Dog of the Day: Brussels Griffon

I think that’s what this guy is.

He doesn’t look terribly enthusiastic to see me, does he?

Double Dog Day: Bruce and either Shiva or Babette the 5-Month-Old Teacup Poodles

I don’t recall the story behind the ‘Shiva-or-Babette’ controversy, but I’m sure it was a debate full of excitement and vigor.

I’m no longer on drugs, and only in mild pain, and consequently will try to be a bit more reliable in my updates again. Sorry ’bout that!

Two White Teacup Poodles

Talk about two peas in a pod. One’s definitely a little fluffier, but the most reliable way to tell them apart is leash color.

White Teacup Poodle

The less poofly of the two. The tear stains worry me a bit: apparently poodles are prone to eyelash problems (growing into the eye rather than away from it), which can cause eye irritation, which can cause this. Isn’t there something that can be done about that? It must be awful!

White Teacup Poodle Sticking Out Her Tongue

The pooflier half. Little bit of puppy tongue there.

Dog of the Day: Beatles Haircut Old English Sheepdog

Sorry for the lack of effort, yesterday and today. I’m feeling totally enervated (blame pain and codeine, and bad news.) So: have an Old English sheepdog, shaved short except for his Beatles haircut.

The bad news: Autumn’s family dog died last night, about a month after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and about three weeks after what was thought to be a successful operation to remove it. Nobody’s quite sure why, but even while she wasn’t able to keep food down, she was still happy to play and solicit petting up to the last, so I guess at least that she didn’t suffer too badly. I’ll try to scrape together enough pictures for a memorial when Autumn gets back.

Old English Sheepdog Shaved Except For Head

I don’t know what possessed mom or dad to give him this haircut, but I think it’s hilarious. I just hope he doesn’t get picked on by the other dogs.

Dog of the Day: Roxie the German Shepherd/Malamute Mix

Roxy is a dog of considerable resource. It says here in the notes I have on her, along with ‘4 years old’. I have no idea what it means, so you can imagine whatever you like. I’m sure whatever it is, it’s awesome.

Incidentally, my tooth is feeling better. And by ‘feeling better’ I mean ‘they pulled it out and threw it away.’ So yay, now I get to venture into the wonderful world of dental implants. I can hardly wait the ten days until my next appointment. Thank goodness for codeine.

Black and Cream German Shepherd/Alaskan Malamute Mix

This picture and the next one are the product of having a squeaky toy in my backpack, and squeezing it where the dog can’t see.

Black and Cream German Shepherd/Alaskan Malamute Mix Tilting His Head (Baroo?

Love the head-tilt. She just can’t quite figure out how a HUMAN can squeak like that.

One guess what’s in that hand.

Dog of the Day: Ginger the Dogue de Bordeaux

We’ve seen Ginger before, although she was a lot smaller then. But no less cute.

She looks like I feel right now. I have a toothache, ugh. I haven’t had one of these in a couple years, and I used to get them on a monthly basis, so I guess I should feel happy, but oddly enough, the thought isn’t terribly comforting. Oh, and several different dentists said that it’s nothing that anyone can or should do anything about. Whee. Wonder if I can get some pain medication without waiting several days for a dentist’s appointment.

Young Tan Dogue de Bordeaux (aka French Mastiff)

This was during a very brief moment of diminished hyperactivity.
