Dog of the Day: Loki the Newfoundland

Here she is, the princess herself!

Newfoundland Dog

Funny, I don't think I've ever seen those 'elf locks' on the ears on any dog breed aside from golden retrievers before.

Newfie

Such a goofy way of standing, too. Dachshunds and basset hounds do that, but I rarely see big dogs doing it.

Newfoundland Dog

Loki was excited (and therefore distracted) by everyone and everything. Total puppy attitude.

Newfoundland Dog

A beagle can fetch slippers or a paper. I wonder if I could train Loki to fetch my bicycle.

Newfoundland Dog

Nice clean puppy-teeth.

Newfoundland Dog

The Lab in the background was being SO well-behaved. Loki clearly wanted to go over there and tempt him into doing something naughty.

Newfoundland Dog

Kinda looks like she's taking a bow. As opposed to a bow-wow... although I guess that would make it a bow-wow bow.

Newfie

At this point I gave up taking pictures so I could get some serious petting in before I had to finish my walk to work.

Dog of the Day: Diggity the Bull Mastiff/American Bulldog

Still don’t have time to finish up Loki, so here’s Diggity, the Bull Mastiff/Bulldog. Should we call him a bullbull? I know I’d call him a-door-a-bull.

Also, the name. “Hot diggity dog, ziggity boom!”

American Bulldog/Bull Mastiff Mix

He was just chillin' out. Super-patient happy dog.

Bull Mastiff/American Bulldog Mix

Of course, just because he was patient didn't mean he wasn't keeping an eye out for opportunities.

American Bulldog/Bull Mastiff Mix

And he definitely knows a sucker when he sees one.

Site News: New Logo

Look, we’ve got a new logo! And it’s only taken maybe three to four hours for me to learn enough CSS to figure out how to add the damn thing. Grr.

Anyway, many thanks to the lovely and multi-talented Ms. Patricia Ross, for said logo. And even more thanks to her for humoring me when I sent her back to the drawing board and  said I wanted something between Pablo Picasso’s “The Dog” and this wiener dog. I think you’ll agree that she came through with flying colors. (And a great deal of politeness, especially given what artists should probably respond with when asked to ‘just draw something like a Picasso.’)

By the way, it’s an Italian Greyhound. I’m an expert, we know these things. 🙂

Dog of the Day: Loki the Newfie Puppy (Sneak Preview!)

Not much time for posting today, and I’ve been working on editing a really big post, so you get a sneak preview of an undoubtedly awesome dog: Loki the Newfoundland, age 11 months. I’ll be posting the rest of her stuff either tomorrow or Saturday. (No caturday supplement this week, as I am currently out of cat pictures.)

Newfoundland

Oh God she made me want to run up and throw my arms around her and squeal, "WHOZZAFUZZYWUZZYGOOFBALL? YOU ARE!" Dignity? What's that?

Dog of the Day: Murphy the Standard Schnauzer

Found this guy standing out in front of a coffee shop. Even though mom and (or?) dad were just on the other side of the front window, he had this terrible hangdog expression, and was shivering. Which he kept up until we started petting him, and then he stopped shaking and looked all happy. Until we stopped petting him. Rinse, repeat. We barely escaped with our souls intact.

Standard Schnauzer

Don't cry, emo puppy.

Standard Schnauzer

This is immediately After Petting.

Standard Schnauzer

I think this is his, 'wait, where are you going, come back and pet me more!' face.

Dog of the Day: Gunther the English Bulldog

These guys are always good for a laugh. And usually good for a hug, too.

English Bulldog

Check out those gams!

English Bulldog

Totally ridiculous! His dad calls them his 'drumsticks'. Autumn prefers 'bunny butt'.

English Bulldog

Is the other end really less ridiculous?

English Bulldog

Their tongues are so ridiculously wide.

Dog of the Day: DJ (Da Jung) the Korean Jindo Dog

I saw DJ coming, and I thought, ‘Oh, my God, that’s the biggest shiba inu I have ever seen!’ Autumn, on the other hand, said, ‘Oh, look, that must be a Korean jindo’. And lo, that’s exactly what she was.

So foxy!

Korean Jindo Dog

DJ was a bit of a puzzle. As long as I stayed well back, she looked really friendly and happy: ears well forward, grin, tail wagging to the right. In fact, she looked like she was delighted to see me.

Korean Jindo Dog

She also didn't fixate on me or anything, so she really didn't seem nervous at all.

Korean Jindo Dog

But as soon as I got a little closer, she started looking quite nervous and edging away.

Korean Jindo Dog

This pose had nothing to do with me... I was plenty far away. She was just being goofy.

Korean Jindo Dog

Look at the shape of the head. They may edge out shiba inus for 'most fox-like dog'. Even if they are a bit large.

Double Dog Day: Arco the Golden Retriever and Oscar the Cockapoo

This pair really knows how to enjoy life. Arco is a 6-month-old Golden Retriever puppy, and Oscar is a 1.5-year-old cocker spaniel/poodle mix, and they’re clearly the best of friends.

Golden Retriever and Cockapoo

Their mom was out walking these two at 8 in the morning. And all I have to say is, she must be one of the best moms in the world, to keep two dogs this happy.

Golden Retriever

Funny poof of fur on his back, too, never seen something like that on a golden retriever before.

Cockapoo

(The little thing in the back is a dog-poop-bag-holder. Surprisingly adorable given its function.)

Golden Retriever

Look at that posture. Even my grandfather, ex-military stickler that he was, couldn't find any fault with that posture.

Cocker Spaniel/Poodle Mix

This pup seems to have both the perfect size and the perfect temperament for a lap dog. Except he might be a little wiggly.

Golden Retriever

Happy head shot!

Golden Retriever/Cockapoo

Oscar almost looks like a stuffed animal in this one.

Golden Retriever and Cocker Spaniel/Poodle Mix

These two obviously adore playing with one another.

Cockapoo and Golden Retriever

Looks like it ought to be straight out of the latest 'buddy movie'.

Caturday Supplement: How Much is That Kitty in the Window?

The one with the soft fluffy tail?

Cat

Now I want to pet a kitty.

Dog of the Day: Balder the Tummy-Rub-Loving Standard Poodle

Balder (named for the Norse god Balder the Beautiful, natch) is a total sucker for belly rubs. As you can see.

Standard Poodle

This is Balder when we met him. He heard, "Aww, what a sweet puppy!" and, knowing exactly what that means, just flopped over and exposed his belly.

Standard Poodle

This was Balder while we were trying to convince him to stand up. We tried commands. We even tried treats. He would MUCH rather have more belly-rubs, thankyouverymuch.

Standard Poodle

His mom (that's her, obviously) eventually had to stand up and pretend she was leaving to get Balder to stand up, so great was the lure of possible future belly-rubs. He wasn't entirely pleased to be so fooled.

Standard Poodle

Balder is indeed a handsome pup.

Standard Poodle

We were tentatively forgiven when Autumn found another itchy spot.
