Dog of the Day: Coydog

Another shot of someone from a while back. I hope at some point I run across him with my SLR… he moves so fast and so erratically that I haven’t managed to get many good shots of him at all.

I’ve seen some videos of coyotes, and this guy does do a fair imitation of a coyote dance. Which is only fair, I guess, given his parentage.

Coyote Dog Hybrid

I've heard that coyotes can adjust well to urban living... guess that goes double for coydogs, since this guy seems pretty happy.

Dog of the Day: Hullo (Hoo-low) the Catahoula Leopard Dog

Our first full-blooded Hula-Hula Cat Dog! Apparently a rescue dog, but well-enough behaved, and loves everybody. I seem to recall that Hullo needs an enormous amount of exercise, though.

Catahoula Hog Dog

This guy would make a fabulous running companion. You could run along next to him and watch his ears flopping up and down out of the corner of your eye. Flop flop flop!

Catahoula Leopard Dog

The classic 'Noble Dog' pose.

Catahoula Leopard Dog

Not just another pretty face!

Catahoula Leopard Dog

Every once in a while I still get a little weirded out about living in a city where there are palm trees.

Catahoula Hog Dog

Could have done without the drool, but oh well.

Catahoula Hog Dog

A whole new level to the 'give me your paw' trick.

Dog of the Day: Vinnie the Australian Shepherd (Redux)

Somehow, when I was posting the pictures of Vinnie a while back, I missed a real gem. Thus, I have for you today an encore presentation of Vinnie the Australian Shepherd, the poised, polished Australian Shepherd show dog.

Vinnie the Dignified, Poised Australian Shepherd Show Dog

Priceless.

Dog of the Day: Tired Lab

This old guy has still got plenty of get up and go left, when he needs it. But, like many another old campaigner, he also knows how to catch sleep when he gets the chance.

Labrador Retriever

One of the great things about most dogs: when they relax, they relax, period. No staying up late at night worrying about tomorrow.

Labrador Retriever

Don't worry: that's just a wart. He's fine. If a little bit low on energy.

Dog of the Day: Nani the Purebred… Something

The woman playing with Nani when I ran across her knew she was a pedigreed dog… but didn’t know her breed. I don’t even have a guess: flat-coats don’t have white markings, and she looks wrong for a border collie.

Anyone have any guesses?

Added later: Hmm… for a purebred dog, Nani sure looks an awful lot like these pups.

Unknown Dog

Well, whatever she is, she certainly is sleek. And black and white is fashionable anywhere, at any time.

Dog of the Day: Watson the Chihuahua/Dachshund (Encore)

The pictures of Watson that I posted before weren’t bad, but I like these new ones more. He really is one cute pup.

His dad (a friend of mine) posted a link to his previous pictures on reddit asking people to see if they could figure out what breed Watson is. It multiplied my average daily traffic by a factor of ten. The consensus was ‘chihuahua/dachshund’, but there was a very vocal minority suggesting that he had some Nova Scotia duck-tolling retriever in him. The coloration sure is similar, anyway.

Sleeping beauty.

Love that little splash of white on his forehead.

Sublime expression.

Watson the Dachshund/Chihuahua Mix

Those are my shoes. Yes, he just wandered over and rested his chin on my shoes.

Watson the Dachshund/Chihuahua Mix

I love that expression. So much personality in that dog.

Dog of the Day: Tucker the Gordon Setter

Not long ago, I ran across this gentleman and his handsome canine assistant taking pictures of the bay using a large-format camera.

Gordon Setter

Man, Gordon Setters are big.

Gordon Setter

I don't know what happened to that sky. It wasn't nearly as bright out as it looks.

Gordon Setter

Wild and wooly dog. Look at the foot fluff, and the huge paws.

Site News: …where’d my blogroll go?

I know I had a blogroll set up. Did it really not import onto the new server, back in February? Or did it disappear when I updated to WordPress 3.0? I suspect the latter.

In any case, it’s gone. I’ll have to rebuild it from scratch. Bah. And I didn’t start daily backups until after I updated to WordPress 3.0…

Dog of the Day: Photoshop Experiments

Working on my Mad PotatoShop Skillz. Trying to figure out how to brighten an area of a picture, and darken the rest of the picture, without leaving an incredibly ugly line in between the two.

I’m open to advice, if anyone has some. I’m sure it has something to do with gradients but I’ll be damned if I can figure out what.

Three dogs being goofy.

I lightened the bottom half of the photo, and haven't even darkened the top half yet, but you can see the odd line above the edge of the sidewalk. It gets much worse if I try to darken the top part. Suggestions?
