Double Dog Day: Macy’s Window Puppies

A pair of Macy’s window puppies, saved from this winter. I think they’re probably half Chihuahua… maybe we can get Autumn’s opinion on the other half.

Chihuahua Mix Puppies

Bet these two got adopted really quick. You have a huge advantage when you can even *sleep* that cutely.

Chihuahua Mix Puppies

Can't be full Chihuahua, they don't have the bulgy brow/eye thing going on.

You don't get a lot cuter than sleeping with your face smooshed up against the window.

Dog of the Day: An Old Friend

Keep running into this pup, and he’s one of my favorites. I now think he’s a Finnish spitz/golden retriever mix.

Finnish Spitz/Golden Retriever Mix

I bet he sheds enough for a dozen sweaters a year.

Dog of the Day: Rottweiler Mix Puppy (and Friend)

It’s my birthday! And so I had to post an adorable puppy.

I ran into this guy in a dog park in the Inner Richmond. I gave his mom my email address, and told her that I’d post his pictures if she’d send details on him, because he’s adoptable (she’s fostering him) and a special-needs dog, and needs as much PR as he can get.

Sadly, she never got back to me, and I didn’t take any notes, not even his name. Sorry about that. I think he’s a Rottweiler mix, though, and I do remember why he was special needs: he’s totally deaf. Happy as a clam, though. And super-cute.

On a hillside entirely covered with sticks, apparently one of them was completely enthralling.

I think this picture belongs in the dictionary, next to the entry for 'puppydog eyes'.

And the puppydog eyes work, too. Hooray for belly rubs!

Pit Bull Terrier

A challenger appears! This guy came over and wanted to play.

Rottweiler Mix Puppy

Those two had an absolute blast together.

Every time the puppy play-attacked, the pit bull flopped over on his back and allowed himself to be 'viciously savaged'. It was mind-meltingly cute.

Dog of the Day: Dalmatian

Given the popularity of the 101 Dalmatians franchise, I’m kind of surprised how few of these I see around.

Dalmatian

Is it just me, or does this poor pup look awfully disgruntled? It's just the arrangement of the spots, I assure you.

Dalmatian

If I had a Dalmatian I'd name him Rorschach.

Dalmatian

Those eye-spots just make the face look so grumpy all the time!

Dalmatian

I dunno. I'm not sure I'd be able to live with this one. I'd be wondering what he was plotting all the time.

No Post Tonight: Blog Migration Completed

Update: if you can see this, you’re on the new blog!

Not that you needed telling, since it should look pretty different from the old one. (The theme I was using doesn’t seem to work properly with the new version of WordPress.) I’m also having some issues getting voting back up and running. We’ll see how long it takes me to do that.

Let me know what you all think about how things look, and if you see anything broken, let me know that, too, in the comments.

If nothing else, things should be a whole lot faster here.

Double Dog Day: Dino (Older) and Bijou (Younger) the Vizslas

It’s amazing how much the older dog here has lightened with age. I’m used to vizslas being a uniform chocolate-brown color, never seen one that looked more like a latte.

Edit: The owner chimes in below: these are Dino (the older, lighter dog) and Bijou (the younger.)

Two Vizslas, One Young and One Old

One thing I’ve never seen is a fat vizsla. I’m sure it’s possible, but they seem to have a pretty revved-up metabolism.

Young Vizsla and Old Vizsla

Is it me, or does the old guy look a little bit… cynical?

Dog of the Day: Waffles the Pembroke Welsh Corgi

This one is for Anne Gearhart, a good friend of mine. She had a cute little stuffed dachshund named Waffles. Well, this Waffles isn’t a dachshund, but boy is he cute!

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Stereotypical corgi expressions. Corgis don't *always* look like this... sometimes they're asleep, too.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Okay, sometimes they aren't grinning. But not often. And they still look goofy.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

And there's the grin again. Also a good look at ridiculous ear-age.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

That's Autumn petting Waffles, who looks very appreciative. Corgis have a lot of back to rub, too.

Dog of the Day: Miss Petie the Samoyed

How do people with samoyeds keep them so clean? If I were a samoyed I would be a uniform light-brown color… I am just not capable of keeping myself that tidy.

Samoyed

These pictures were taken about 20 feet from AT&T Park, and not far from my workplace.

Samoyed

Look at the poofly tail!

Samoyed

She is such a beauty.

Dog of the Day: Georgia the Scottish Terrier Mix

Don’t know what the other half of Georgia is, and I don’t really care: she’s a super-photogenic, super-cute pup. (This is a shot from the Embarcadero: in the background you’re looking out at the San Francisco piers.)

Scotch Terrier Mix

Adorable paw placement, especially with the grey dainty poofly paws. Curved-up tail. Half-flopped ears. All adorable! (Plus, no, I don't know why there's a 'no parking' sign in the middle of the water.)

Half-Scottie

Probably the cutest girl with a mustache and beard that I've ever seen.

Half-Scottish-Terrier

Adorable head tilt for the win!

Dog of the Day: Terrified Golden/Lab Mix

Autumn and I were at a dog park in SF (taking pictures, naturally). This golden retriever/Labrador retriever mix wandered in, and a good number of other pups came by to say hello. This must have been a bit much for the dog: he ran over to Autumn and tried to climb into her lap and bury his face in her neck.

Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever Mix and Corgi

Note the curious corgi in the front. Definitely one of the dogs that terrified the poor lab mix. Corgis can be a little overwhelming sometimes.
