Dog of the Day: Sofie the Tervuren Belgian Shepherd

Apparently ‘Tervuren’, which was a new one on me, refers to the coloration and fur type. Another description of the coloration and fur type would be ‘gorgeous’.

I found this pup out on the Embarcadero with her dad. I reached out to pet her and she immediately retreated behind dad and peered out at me mistrustfully. And I thought, ‘wow, a shy Belgian shepherd!’ So I started snapping a few pictures, and kneeled down to get a picture on the level with her, at which time she came over and stuck her nose in my face and licked my camera. So, well, if she’s shy, she sure isn’t shy for long.

Stuck a second picture below the break.

Belgian Shepherds are one of those breeds that you just want to hug. Or maybe lie down and cuddle with in front of a fireplace.

Dog of the Day: Sophie the Glen of Imaal Terrier

Sophie’s dad didn’t really know what Sophie is… he said ‘she’s a rescue dog, and she’s some kind of terrier mix, I’m sure, but I don’t know what kind.’ I was pretty sure she looked like a Glen of Imaal terrier, but I wasn’t confident enough to bring it up with him. But I get back here and look it up, and sure enough, she’s pretty much the spit and image of a Glen of Imaal. Cute little thing, huh? And even aside from that she’s a very distinctive dog, because she’s probably one of the three happiest pups I have ever met.

Did I say happy? She’s ecstatic. She’s delighted. She has not only crossed the line into manic, she actually races up and down along the line, barking wildly, delighted that the line exists and just happens to be here and about the idea of line-ness in general.

Stuck another three pictures of Sophie below the break.

When I was introduced to her, she immediately ran over and looked up at me.

Grey Terrier Of Some Kind Mix

If that expression doesn't melt your heart, then allow me to suggest a competent cardiologist for you.

Dog of the Day: a Very Responsible Lab

First off, sorry about the server problems yesterday. I wish I could say they weren’t my fault.

Second, it seems that my local sports franchise has won some sort of highly significant contest. Whoopie. For those who are celebrating this occasion, I am posting photos of two of the more interesting (to this blog) attendees of said event: one of them is one of San Francisco’s Finest, and the other one was a perfectly nice policeman.

Second picture moved below the break.

Policeman with Labrador Retriever

This is Storm. She is a rescue dog, pure Labrador Retriever, who has been trained as a bomb-sniffing expert, and her human partner.

In honor of Autumn’s birthday, more pictures of the Great Puppy Fight!

Moved two more pictures below the fold.

Labrador Retriever Puppies

Bailey uses paw slap! (It's not really very effective.)

Dog of the Day: Onyx the Dachshund Mix

I got all sorts of information about this gal: her name is Onyx, and that the fur on her back is a little patchy and oddly patterned because she recently had back surgery to repair a herniated disc. What I didn’t get was her breed. We’re guessing dachshund mix, but if anyone wants to correct us, feel free to do so in the comments.

Second picture moved after the break.

Dachshund mix

She was a real sweetheart, and moving around pretty well, but still obviously not yet fully recovered from her ordeal.

Double Dog Day: a Pair of Boxers

While I mostly prefer briefs, I will admit that occasionally boxers are just what you need.

Tucked the second picture below the fold.

Boxers

Sadly, these two were much too busy to stop for petting.

Dog of the Day: Welcome-Home Corgi

A Pembroke Welch corgi, here to welcome Autumn home from her long trip. Couple of these pictures came out sort of interestingly, stylistically.

Moved four more pics under the break.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

That's a "Nobody could be mad at this face, could they?" expression if I've ever seen one. Wonder if she peed in someone's shoes this morning?

Dog of the Day: Justice the Weimaraner

Justice is an 8-year-old Weimaraner, and one with his own twitter feed: @soojustice, apparently. (Don’t ask me to link you… I haven’t joined the Twitteers or whatever it is they call themselves just yet, so I have no idea how any of that works.)

[edit: Three more pictures, moved below the fold.]

Weimaraner

Justice is a very serious-looking dog.

Double Dog Day: Foxy the German Shepherd/Shiba Inu/Australian Cattle Dog mix (?) and Golden Friend

Well, that’s what Dad thinks she is, and I’m not going to argue. She does look a fair bit like a Shiba Inu, certainly, only a lot closer in size to a German shepherd. And she has recently acquired a squeaky toy, as you will see, and she is totally as obsessed with the thing as any Australian cattle dog could ever be. So it’s not a bad guess.

Her friend, obviously, is about as golden a retriever as ever retrieved.

[edit: stuck four more pictures below the fold.]

Golden Retriever and Very Mixed Breed

If you look closely, you can see that Foxy has something in her mouth. That's her new squeaky toy.
