Lilac is a complete sweetheart. The muzzle is because she has a leeeeeettle bit of aggression issues against other dogs, but only when she’s on leash.

Dog of the Day: Rocket the Formosan Mountain Dog

I ran out this afternoon to pick up a package, and ran into a few pups. This one is Rocket, a one year old Formosan mountain dog who was rescued from the streets of Taiwan.

Black dogs are murder to photograph in the sun, but this didn’t come out too badly.

For a pup raised on the streets, she sure is a friendly sort. She was almost as frustrated as I was that I couldn’t pet her.

Dog of the Day: Trixie the Shiba Inu Store Dog

Trixie is a good friend of mine! She is the number one employee at The Hill Top General Store, in charge of customer and employee happiness. She is quite talented at social distancing, being very calm and ladylike, but she does prefer to get some chin scratches if it is quite convenient. I hope it will soon be convenient again.

She doesn’t run up to you and try to get you to pet her, but sometimes she does park in front of you and refuse to move until she gets attention.

Double PUPPY Day: Fredrick Floof the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Lady the Miniature Australian Shepherd

I ran into the two of these pups (Fredrick Floof, 6 months, and Lady, 4 months) a couple of years back. Alas, they fell by the wayside. But here they are!

Fredrick Floof had an instagram, but apparently no longer does. HOW DARE THEY? But he does appear to have a Reddit account!

Also, that woman clearly is a kindred spirit.

Sunday Switchup: San Francisco Sweets Review, Mina Family Kitchen

Well, you remember how I said I was going to order some tarts from Miette for this week? ‘This time for sure?’ Well, I did! And they cancelled the order. Turns out they aren’t making tarts at the moment, probably because the filling isn’t cooked, and they don’t want to spread viruses. Sigh.

So instead I bought a couple of things from the MINA Family Kitchen, a new venture by Michael Mina and, I guess, his family. It was created in response to the closure of his restaurant by COVID.

The food? Amazing. The desserts? Well…

Key Lime Tart

This one was apparently created by Ayesha Curry, who I am not familiar with, but that’s probably because I don’t follow the world of competitive chefing (chevving?)

Honestly, not too impressed! The crust was fine, but nothing special. Could have been flakier, or could have been tastier. The filling was a little sweeter than I prefer, not as tangy, not as tart. I mean, it was fine, but it was nothing special.

Pretty, though!
