Dog of the Day: Pickles the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Puppy(!)

Pickles is a big boy, even for a Cardie, and he’s only nine months old. He’s gonna get even bigger!

Cardigan Welsh Corgi With Blue Eyes
I saw Pickles from across a large parking lot. I knew it was going to be tough to catch up to him without looking very silly.
Cardigan Welsh Corgi Grinning
Fortunately, I have never been even slightly concerned about looking silly. So I ran.

Dog of the Day: Hazel the Wire Fox Terrier Puppy

Hazel is only five months old? How is that possible? She’s already just as big as most of the other wire-haired fox terriers I’ve met. And devastatingly cute, to boot!

Caturday Supplement: The Wonderful Thing About Tigger

It’s been a while since we’ve had a Caturday Supplement. And I’m currently living at a nice little spot in Monterey, while I wait for my apartment to be revamped, and this nice little spot has two cats! One of them is terrified of me, and I have mostly only seen her backside, and that very briefly. But Tigger, here, he loves people, and is quite happy to have another one to beg for petting. Unlike many cats, he actually likes tummy rubs, albeit only in moderation.

Too many good pictures for captions or hovertext. Just admire Tigger’s floofy magnificence.

Dog of the Day: MAD DOG!

There’s a shop in Monterey, and one in Carmel-by-the-Sea too, called ‘Mad Dogs and Englishmen’, a reference to an old saying and/or an old song. They rent electric bicycles that include provision for your canine companion, whether it be via a basket as below or with its very own sidecar. I think that it is unutterably spiffy, and hope to at least see a couple of pups in sidecars before I leave the area.

Honestly, if you could rent a dog to go with the bike, I’d be all over this.

Totally mellow pup, quite at home being fussed over by everyone who walked past.

Dog of the Day: Wishbone and Clover the Picardy Spaniels

No. Way. I didn’t just run into an entirely new breed for the blog down here in sleepy Monterey, did I? It sure looks that way: Wishbone (8) and Clover (5) are Picardy spaniels, and apparently our first two. Amazing. Still finding new breeds after 14 years!

Brown Picardy Spaniel and Blue Picardy Spaniel Sitting
Mom was somewhat embarrassed to note the amount of drool on Wishbone (the ‘blue’). How he managed to get it up to the top of his head is beyond me.

Puppy of the Day: Frida (Kahlo) the Dachshund

I feel like Frida Kahlo should be the name of a Chihuahua, or a Mexican street dog, or something like that, rather than an 8-week-old dachshund puppy. Nevertheless, I think we’ll allow it.

Poor pup hadn’t been vaccinated yet, so she couldn’t come out and play!

Dog of the Day: Lewis the Leonberger

Ran into a one-year-old Leonberger today. Lewis has a lot of style.

Bought a used monitor for my trip, since the one I was planning on bringing down here… well, I did something dumb that is not interesting enough to explain. Anyway, bought a nice 28″ used monitor for $40 off Craigslist, set it up next to the nice keyboard I bought off of Craigslist for $20, all attached with a bunch of cables that I had lying around or bought off of Craigslist. And one new mouse.

The mouse doesn’t work.

Lewis was very well-behaved… briefly.
Leonberger Looking Goofy
Mom looked like she didn’t weigh as much as Lewis. That makes for an … interesting do g walking experience.

Dog of the Day: Otis the Basset With So Much Skin OMG

Otis is apparently a ‘European basset’, which means he has twice as much skin as a regular basset? I dunno. I just know he is very, very saggy.

When I was around six, I had hand-me-down footie pajamas from a cousin that looked a little like that.

Dog of the Day: Gertie the St. Bernard

Gertie, 2, is just as gentle a giant as you might imagine. Good thing, too, since if she leapt up on you, you’d know it!

Man With Large Female St. Bernard
She might look a little sandy. She apparently was out at the Carmel beach earlier, but she wasn’t wet… just very, very drooly.

Dog of the Day: Sky the Pomeranian Husky Mix

I walked up to Sky’s dad and said ‘Wow, that’s a petite husky! Or is she still a puppy?’ And he told me that she was a fully-grown Pomsky, which, well, wow. For a Pomsky she’s huuuuuge! Skinny, though, under all that fluff.

Large Pomsky Looking Slightly Silly
She definitely seems endowed with the husky sense of humor.
