Dog of the Day: Sterling the Great Dane

Ran into Sterling on one of our hiking outings, last October. It was quite dark, so most of my pictures didn’t come out, but I got a couple of okay ones.

Poor Sterling. He was a rescue, years ago. He’s now 7, and he’s still scared of people. It breaks my heart seeing a scared Great Dane.

Mantle Great Dane

I guess his coloration is called ‘mantle’.

Mantle Great Dane

Ah well. At least I’m glad he has someone taking good care of him now.

Happy New Year’s Dog!

Hope you didn’t do too much partying last night, like this guy.

(I was GOING to post our first Irish setter ever today, but I’m still getting used to this camera… every damn picture I took was blurry except one, and that one’s going to take a lot of tweaking because it’s too dark. Bah!)

Someone, it appears, is about ready for the holiday season to be over with.

Dog of the Day: Assistance German Shepherd

Back in San Francisco, as of yesterday evening.

Today, I had a long day: got locked out of my apartment (this morning at 10), and then left a credit card at a restaurant, and then found my credit card, and then got myself back into my apartment (this evening at 8). So, sorry for the late and short post, but… yeah. I’m tired.

So have an assistance dog I met in the airport on the way home.

German Shepherd Assistance Dog

He’s still at that awkward adolescent stage, but apparently he’s a well-trained assistance dog already.

Caturday Supplement: Tuxedo Kitty

My brother, Brad, lives in Phoenix, Arizona, a place I was able to visit for quite a short period on my way home from Indiana. His street has a little crowd of feral kitties living nearby… this is one of them, who camped out in the middle of the road when we were pulling in and decided not to move when the car approached. But ran away from me when I got within twenty yards. Go figure.

Tuxedo Cat

Staring fixedly at me. I was literally 15 to 20 yards away. The car didn’t get his attention when it was ten feet away.

Tuxedo Cat

When I got ten yards away he got up and sauntered off.

Tuxedo Cat

And then sat down in someone’s driveway and watched me to make sure I wasn’t going to get any closer. Silly cat.

Dog of the Day: Zoe the Klee Kai

Is Zoe really our first full klee kai? It sure seems that way.

Alaskan Klee Kai

Lovely poofly tail!

Alaskan Klee Kai

Someone has the ‘faithful, noble companion’ pose down pat.

Alaskan Klee Kai

Making the extra effort to be cute.

And the little glance over the shoulder. So cute!

Dog of the Day: Golden Retriever Mix Puppy

Autumn and I ran into this puppy on our way somewhere, and I grabbed a few pictures. And none of them came out, they were all too blurry, due to puppy hyperkineticism. Thank goodness, we ran into her again a week or two later.

Golden Retriever Mix Puppy

I think there’s some terrier in there, but she’s at least half golden retriever.

Golden Retriever Mix Puppy

Autumn went totally ga-ga over this pup.

Golden Retriever Mix Puppy

Can’t blame her. So cute! And so cuddly!

Golden Retriever Mix Puppy

Yes, booping that nose is just as satisfying as you think it would be.

Christmas Day Dog: Ceili the Awesome Dog!

For Christmas, here’s Autumn’s puppy with a holiday message.

Golden Retriever

Ceili’s been wearing two shirts a lot lately, one on top and one over her butt. But I didn’t get any good shots of her with both on, sadly.

Golden Retriever

The reason she’s been wearing shirts is she had surgery lately (don’t worry, she’s doing great) and they had to keep her from licking the sutures.

Golden Retriever

She also loves hats.

Golden Retriever

Important to remember to take the second shirt off when you take her out to do her business.

Golden Retriever

The happy face is because she’s recovered enough that she can walk around un-leashed.

Golden Retriever

Tomorrow or the next day, she gets the shirts off, and soon after she gets to play fetch again. Imagine what her face will look like then!

Golden Retriever

Aww… she loves giving hugs and smooches.

Dog of Christmas Eve: Rocky the Hopeful Lab

If anyone tells you that dogs don’t know when Christmas is coming, don’t you believe it.

Chocolate Lab

I heard this guy coming from a block away. Jingly-bells!

Chocolate Labrador Retriever

Rocky is five… still young enough to be excitable.

Chocolate Labrador Retriever

Aww, happy face! Haven’t seen many labs with heterochromia like that.

Chocolate Labrador Retriever

I do not recall what promoted this, but it sure is adorable.

Dog of the Day: Miko the Pit Bull/Dachshund Mix

The breed is just a guess, but I do know that Miko is a world traveller. I met him in the airport at Las Vegas, when I was stuck there for four hours. He’s a rescue, and still a little bit shy, but he’s super-sweet.

Tan Dachshund/Pit Bill Mix

Look at that one-eyebrow-up action.

Puppydog eyes.

Caturday Supplement: Calamakitty

Autumn’s family has two cats: Evil and Calamity, also known as Calamakitty. I hereby name them honorary Cats of San Francisco.

Tortoiseshell Tabby And White Cat

I call this position ‘cat blob’.

Tortoiseshell Tabby And White Cat

Cats often look so philosophical.

Tortoiseshell Tabby And White Cat

Calamity isn’t the smartest cat in the world… but she does like cuddles.
