Dog of the Day: Bumblebee the Baby Cocker Spaniel/Poodle Mix

I ran into Bumblebee the cockapoo (and what an unfortunate breed name that is) when I was having lunch at Google with my friend Tommaso, who is newly employed there. And of course, I had to stop and take pictures of this adorably cute 10-week-old ball of fluff. Sorry Tommaso!

Unfortunately, because we were inside in a dimly lit room, only two of the pictures came out, and one of them is a slightly embarrassing-looking one of the woman who was holding him, so we’re just going to go with the one picture. However, there are more at his mom’s facebook page, so go check it out if you’re in the mood for some cute.

(Hey, why not enter my photography contest?)

Cockapoo Puppy

I mistook him for a SUPER-young golden-doodle. So adorable!

Dog of the Day: Austin the Australian Shepherd Puppy

I just ran into Austin a week or so ago, and it turns out that he is a Dogster puppy! (Six months old.) And by that I mean, his dad apparently works at Dogster, which I didn’t know was a thing, but apparently it is. And a fairly cute thing it is, too.

(Thank you to the one person so far who has submitted photos for my photography contest! And geesh, I never realized how lazy y’all are. C’mon, submit some more pictures!)

Australian Shepherd with CONE OF SHAME

Austin has apparently been in the cone for ages. He got injured, and just as he was recovering, he got neutered.

Australian Shepherd in Elizabethan Collar

FLOATING DOG HEAD OF DOOOOOOM.

Australian Shepherd with CONE OF SHAME

A few days after I took these, I ran into Austin again, sans collar. He seemed equally happy either way.

Australian Shepherd with CONE OF SHAME

The one major problem with the dog-cone: itching difficulties.

Australian Shepherd with CONE OF SHAME

Austin strikes me as just a wee bit manic. I bet he's going to be a handful.

Australian Shepherd with CONE OF SHAME

A little manic, but still as sweet as maple sugar candy.

Caturday Suppement: Blackat!

Screwed up my back yesterday. Not good. Up until now this has only happened once a year, and the last time was in February. Guess I better start actually doing those back exercises, huh?

Anyway, here’s a kitty for y’all. Incidentally, if people have cat pictures they want to submit for the photography contest, feel free to do so. We’ll work something out. If I get enough, maybe I’ll even make a third category.

Black Kitten

Catnip: not even once.

Dog of the Day: Meche the Awesome Shetland Sheepdog

There is little cuter than a Sheltie, and there aren’t a lot of Shelties cuter than Meche.

(Hey, you’ll never guess what! I’m having a photo contest!)

Shetland Sheepdog

Goofy pup. She seemed totally relaxed and happy: waggy tail, held high, panting, ears wandering back and forth animatedly, and straining at the leash so she could come over and say hi to me...

Sheltie

...but she just wouldn't stop barking! Barkity bark bark! And she was loud, too. (To be fair, she WAS on the 'em-bark-adero' at the time.)

Shetland Sheepdog

Well, I didn't mind. How could you get annoyed at that face?

Shetland Sheepdog

The many and varied expressions of Meche.

Shetland Sheepdog

Hey, where did THAT one come from?

Shetland Sheepdog

Look at that tail. Oh my god that is a ridiculous tail.

Shetland Sheepdog

Yay. Meche can come visit me any day of the week.

Dog of the Day: Kukur the Lion-Cut Whatchamaterrier

There’s clearly something wrong here: Kukur is Nepalese for ‘dog’, but this guy looks like a lion! But I asked his mom, and it turns out she calls him a 4-year-old ‘whatchamaterrier’, which I more or less endorse. (Seriously… I don’t have a clue.)

(Heeeeyyy… This might be a good time to mention my photography contest, huh?)

Terrier Mix

The lion cut is for his comfort: he faces the heat a lot better in it, apparently.

Unknown Terrier Mix

Yes, that's a leaf hanging from his mouth. Guess he just likes leaves.

Unknown Terrier Mix

Teeny little peeking tongue.

Unknown Terrier Mix

The first step is admitting you have a leaf problem...

Dog of the Day: Winking Collie Mix

Whoof. Tired today, not really sure why. Here’s a quick pic of a winking pup. Might be… a collie/Aussie?

Still going to mention the contest, though. Take pictures! Send them to me! Win tee shirts and/or bandanas!

One-eyed Collie Mix

Yes, he only has one eye. No, he doesn't let it bother him at all.

Site News: A Contest!

Edit: I am officially adding a ‘cat’ category for the contest too, complete with its own t-shirt and dog cat bandana. Woot!

Second Edit: Contest has been extended until June 30!

Well, I finally went and did it: I ordered a few of the tee shirts I designed. I’m pretty proud of how they came out. And so I’m going to give away a couple of them to a couple of you. And, since Autumn has just ordered a whole bunch of nifty dog-bandanas for her business, I’m going to filch a couple of those to use as prizes as well.

So, let’s have a little photo contest. For the next few weeks, I want people to send me pictures. There will be two categories: creative, cute, or otherwise noteworthy pictures of dogs, for the first. Pictures that are evocative of San Francisco (though they need not be from San Francisco) for the second. First prize from each category will be a tee shirt (I have large and extra-large… if you need a different size, let me know and I will see what I can do). Second prize will be a Pup Scouts logo dog bandana. Or, if you win first prize and would prefer the bandana, which I admit is totally adorable, I won’t be offended, just let me know. (I will be mentioning the contest in every post until the submission period is over, but I’ll try not to let it get too terribly tiresome.)

How to enter: either upload your picture(s) to one of the photo sharing sites (such as imgur, flickr, or any other one) and leave a link in the comments of my blog, or email me the photo at the address ‘alang’ (at sign) ‘dogsofsf’ (period) ‘com’. (Sorry about the obfuscation, but I deal with enough spam in my day job.)

Details: Only two pictures per person, please, although the pictures can be in either category, or in both (e.g. a picture of a dog posing in front of the Golden Gate). Please submit pictures of no less than 1024×768 pixels, and the larger the better. Pictures must be submitted by Monday, June 11th. Autumn and I, possibly assisted by other parties, will narrow the pictures down to a small group (3? 5?) for each category, and then visitors will be able to vote on them. (Submission of a picture allows DoSF a limited, non-exclusive license to display your image on the blog.)

If you have any other questions about the contest, feel free to drop them in the comments below. And I hope we’ll get at least a few entries, otherwise I’m going to end up feeling rather silly, and with several extra tee shirts on hand.

Enter the contest! The power of cute compels you!

Dog of the Day: Ginger the Dogue de Bordeaux Puppy

Ginger is the puppy of a friend (and client) of Autumn’s, so I’ve gotten to help dog-sit her a couple times in the last couple of weeks. She is a super-snuggly squirmy stinky ridiculous ball of love with a totally ludicrous snore. Seriously, the video below doesn’t even come close to doing it justice: if you’re sitting on the sofa and she’s sleeping on the other end of it, you can actually feel her snoring vibrating your butt. I hate to think what she’s going to sound like when she gets up to her full weight, which is liable to be 100 to 120 pounds.

And, in unrelated news: either later today or sometime tomorrow, I’m going to post a contest! Don’t worry, it’ll be running for at least a week, so there’s plenty of time. There will be two winners, each of whom will get one of my ‘iPoodle’ t-shirts.

And speaking of t-shirts, I’ve gotten some art from Lisa Sindorf and am working on turning it into another shirt. I don’t want to spoil the surprise so I’ll just tell you that it’s totally awesome.

And now, without further ado, heeeeeeeere’s the Ginginator!

(Edit: *sigh* Would help if I used the right name.)

Dogue De Bordeaux Puppy

She is an intrepid explorer, even if at the time this was taken she wasn't allowed out of the house/yard until she was fully vaccinated.

French Mastiff Puppy

This seems to be her favorite tree. In a few months she is going to be bigger than it is.

Dogue De Bordeaux Puppy

Her ears make flapping sounds when she runs. (Okay, that's a lie. But it's a cute one.)

French Mastiff Puppy

She's a lot less wrinkly than I expected from pictures of French mastiff puppies on the Internet.

Dogue De Bordeaux Puppy

That's her swimming pool. Apparently there was some disagreement on whether to get her an inflatable one or not. They finally did, and she popped it in the first five minutes. Oops.

Dogue De Bordeaux Puppy Sleeping

Adorable tableau, even if the stuffed animal is a little on the goofy side.

French Mastiff Puppy Sleeping

She'll grow into it, I'm sure.

Caturday Supplement: Pictures of Reflections of Adam Taking Pictures of Cats

These came out kind of funny, actually. Sometimes when you’re taking pictures of Macy’s window kitties, you come out with something a little different than you expected.

Siamese Kitten

Yes, that giant thing is my hand and my camera.

Siamese Kitten

Yes, that is my giant head. Also my hands, my camera, and my hat. Yes, it has ear flaps.

Siamese Kitten

And yes, that's another guy in the background with a very similar hat.

Dog of the Day: Puppy Preview

Someone is sneaking this way… you’ll see more of her Sunday, including a short video of her adorably ridiculous (and ridiculously adorable!) snore.

French Mastiff (Dogue de Bordeaux)

All right, who can guess what breed she is? And no fair answering if you know her already!
