Dog of the Day: Ruby the Australian Cattle Dog Puppy

Ruby’s six months. And she’s a lucky pup: her mom works at Zynga. Why does that make her a lucky pup? Well… without taking any position on the company itself, it’s a ‘dog-friendly workplace’. So Ruby gets to go to work with Mom a lot. Great work, if you can get it.

Ruby was surprisingly well-behaved for a six-month-old puppy, though that might have just been because she was exhausted.

Turkyday Supplement: Some Wild Turkey for Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, and I hope all of you have as much to be thankful for as I do.

And as these guys do. We ran into them this summer at ‘Little Yosemite’ (a park in the East Bay). No hunting in State Parks, so these guys don’t have to worry about ending up as someone’s Thanksgiving meal.

Wild Turkeys

These guys were just acting all happy and turky-ish. (Not to be confused with ‘Turkish’.)

Wild Turkeys

And then they noticed us and they ran away fast. I predict that they have a long future ahead of them, even if they do look kind of delicious.

Dog of the Day: Sophie the Alaskan Malamute/Samoyed/Wolf Mix

Sophie is a proud citizen of Big Sur, one of the places that Autumn and I visited on our vacation a few weeks ago. Did I say citizen? She is the dutchess, here pictured in her coach, a.k.a. a vintage early 1970s (I believe?) land yacht.

Sophie is also known as ‘Sophie-Pillow’, for reasons that should become obvious once you see her. I have asked for some more pictures of her, so don’t be surprised if we end up with a second Sophie day in the near future.

She has a lovely smile, doesn’t she? And she seems very dignified. (She’s twelve years old.)

Dog of the Day: The Return of Pit Bull Driver!

Found some more pictures of this guy that I didn’t realize I had. He is so adorable that I can even overlook all the damn reflections.

The ears! Also the spotty lips.

And the ‘one ear up’ and ‘teeny bit of tongue’ in this one are pretty adorable too.

And a big doggie grin. (Incidentally, it wasn’t warm at all, so there was no issue with leaving this guy in the car.)

Is anyone else reminded of a certain painting?

Dog of the Day: Champ the Collie/Australian Shepherd Mix

Champ is well-named. He belongs to an employee of Wags, our local dog wash and the best show on Polk Street on weekends. (Stop by and gaze into the window and watch all the cute doggies!) I keep telling them they need to set up a web cam.

Tricolor Collie/Australian Shepherd Mix

Champ makes a great spokes-dog. They should totally use him in their advertising.

An awesome smile.

Argh

Nothing about this weekend went as planned. (It included such diverse elements as: a trip to Costco; the abrupt need to remix three songs from original recordings and set up a CD with those and other songs for Autumn; the abrupt need to print out album art and CD fronts, and press CDs, for Autumn; the abrupt and painfully urgent need to clean off my desk (in order to find something); the abrupt need to redo all of the wiring on and near my computer desk (to figure out why the internet stopped working; and several other fun things.

The surprise is going to have to wait until the long Thanksgiving weekend. Sorry, all.

Otterday Supplement: Monterey Trip

We did see a few sea otters on our trip… not enough, of course, and not close enough, but we saw a few.

Southern Sea Otter in Point Lobos State Reserve, California

We saw a total of maybe eight to ten otters, but only two of them relatively close. This is the best picture I got of one of them. I think he may have noticed us.

This guy was quite close. The sun was practically down (and the day was cloudy) by this time, so I didn’t have a lot of light.

I’m pretty sure this guy did catch sight of us.

He then skedaddled, quite rapidly. I don’t think Autumn even caught a glimpse of him before he left.

Dog of the Day: Phoebe the Australian Shepherd Mix

I was wholly unable to guess at what Phoebe’s Australian shepherd half was mixed with, because I was too busy being bowled over by her smile.

Mostly-White Blue Merle Australian Shepherd Mix with Black Ticking

Look at that face. This is the kind of dog that could actually convince me that everything was going to be all right.

Yes, one blue eye. And a very expectant expression.

Dog of the Day: Ozzy the Siberian Husky Again

I keep running across Ozzy outside of OZ Lounge. Best marketing I’ve ever seen… I know I’ve gone in there a couple times because of Ozzy, and I frequently go by there on the way home in the hopes of getting a smooch or two.

Light posts today and tomorrow… getting ready for some big news over the weekend.

Light Red Siberian Husky

This pup sure knows how to effectively solicit cuddles.

Double Dog Day: Moose the Miniature Australian Shepherd and Yuki the Corgi/Australian Cattle Dog Mix

I’m not sure if I should believe my notes or my eyes. My notes say that Yuki is an Australian shepherd/corgi mix, but those eyes! (Not to mention the ears and the coloration.) He totally looks like an ACD to me.

This is the clearest picture I got of those eyes. No touch-up was done… that’s the natural color. You can spot them from a block away.

Yuki was both quite shy and eminently distractible.

I love the mischievous expression.
