Caturday Supplement: YAMWK!

(That’s ‘Yet Another Macy’s Window Kitty!)

Kitty in a Window

I tended to get to the windows after dark, when all the kitties were tuckered out. This one was the exception.

Kitty in a Window

That looks like a map of an archipelago. Perhaps this is a treasure map kitty!

Kitty in a Window

Someone isn't getting enough cuddles. Poor kitty. Hope she got adopted.

Site News: Damn Facebook Anyway

So I did some stuff to integrate with Facebook. It’s been helpful, by and large. Gets a few more people here.

And now it’s killing the site. If you’re having trouble connecting, that’s why: part of Facebook’s API is responding so slowly that it’s causing page loads to time out. It’s clearly been doing this for a couple hours now (and the problem is very visible on their API responsiveness graph) but they haven’t even acknowledged the problem yet, let alone fixed it. Damn am I glad that I don’t depend upon Facebook for my actual livelihood.

Roll of 28(+1) Day 24: Birthday Music

It’s my birthday tomorrow! (The 25th, that is.) And, quite coincidentally, two of my most favorite musicians in the world were in town tonight (and tomorrow night, the 25th, too!) at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley: Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill. They are incredible… some of the best Irish music you could ever hope to hear.

Here, this is a favorite of mine. This one too. Give it a listen.

Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill, on Stage at The Freight and Salvage Coffee House in Berkeley, CA

I value my sleep highly, but if they had kept playing until 5 AM, I would've stayed for it. They're just plain amazing.

Dog of the Day: Little Man, the Off-the-Charts Cute Pit Bull Puppy

Autumn and I stopped by a newish coffee shop in Polk Gulch (aka Polk Street where it goes through the edge of the Tenderloin.) It sits at Polk and Pine, in the space where Polk Street Station used to be, a space that has sat vacant for several years now. All in all, we were pretty happy with the place… at first.

Then what happened? Then the owner’s 4-month-old brindle-striped pit bull puppy (named ‘Little Man’) came by for a visit (outside of course). At which point we became utterly ecstatic. So cute! So happy! So wiggly!

Pit Bull Puppy

It was a dim day, and this guy never stays still for more than a hundredth of a second. It was MURDER getting non-blurry shots of him!

4-Month-Old Pit Bull Puppy

If he looks unhappy or concerned in any of the pictures, it is almost certainly because he was being prevented from licking someone he wanted very much to lick.

4-Month-Old Pit Bull Puppy

"Airplane ears!"

4-Month-Old Pit Bull Puppy

Little Man was curious about everything. Which means you can probably guess what is coming next.

4-Month-Old Pit Bull Puppy

Our patented Schnozz-shot!

4-Month-Old Pit Bull Puppy

The owner's son, on the right, and I'm not clear on who the gentleman is, but he brought the puppy by so he's a hero in my book.

4-Month-Old Pit Bull Puppy

Wiggles and giggles and licks, that's what puppydogs are made of.

4-Month-Old Pit Bull Puppy

Overloaded puppy expression. All the happy you can squeeze into one small space.

4-Month-Old Pit Bull Puppy

Beards are delicious, maybe?

4-Month-Old Pit Bull Puppy

And this is definitely the "Hey... I couldn't help but not that these two are cuddling me, but you aren't," expression.

Roll of 28(+1) Day 23: Roofart

No, this is not a picture of a flatulent kangaroo. Instead, it is something even more inexplicable: a piece of art that is attached to a roof near AT&T park (and, consequently, also near my workplace.)

Incidentally, do not even consider buying an Eye-Fi card. The card itself works beautifully, but the software is so badly designed and written that it renders them worse than useless, and there seems to be no temptation on their part to fix it in any way.

Art

Octopus being attacked by whale, maybe?

Dog of the Day: Romeo the French Mastiff

A Dogue de Bordeaux! He’s a perfect pet to take to those wine-tasting parties.

Incidentally, this is the third ‘Romeo’ we’ve seen. The second one was quite a bit different!

French Mastiff

Shaved Saint Bernard?

Dogue de Bordeaux

Romeo, master of the coy look.

French Mastiff

See what I mean?

Dogue de Bordeaux

He's also a past master at being cheerful and photogenic.

Roll of 28(+1) Day 22: Well, That’s… Very… Red

This house was redone, inside and out, a couple of years ago. Autumn and I watched it being done, and were very impressed with the lovely improvements made to the inside. And then the outside was painted bright fire-engine red and we thought, hmm, is that some kind of primer?

No. It’s not some kind of primer. It’s what someone thought, inexplicably, was a good idea.

Big Red Row House For No Goddamn Reason

It has the cutest spiral staircase!

Dog of the Day: Scruffylicious!

Okay, we have seen this guy before, when he was the victim of a vicious akita attack! (Insert scare chords here.) I had no idea what the was, then, and I still don’t, but maybe now that we have some better pictures we can get Autumn to weigh in.

Oh, and the second dog in the last picture might also look a little familiar. This one is easy to remember, since I had a giant stretched canvas printed up of the last picture on that page. It came out awesome.

Scruffy Dog

Anyone have a guess as to what this guy might be?

Scruffy Dog

I am not familiar with canine gaits, but this one looks like his backside is drifting away.

Scruffy Dog

The ears look odd in this one, sort of crinkled in on themselves.

Scruffy Dog

When nobody's willing to take care of your itchiness for you, sometimes you have to take matters into your own paw.

Scruffy Dog and Red Heeler Mix

Stereotypical canine interactions.

Roll of 28(+1) Day 21: Another Irish Pub

Argh. I forgot to post one of these yesterday. I’m a bad boy.

Anyway, building on the day before yesterday’s Irish pub picture, I thought this was kind of funny. Seen in front of O’Neill’s Irish Pub.

Pub Sign

It's a bit thin for soup... more like broth. Wouldn't Guinness be more appropriate?

Double Dog Day: Doc and Dolly the Snoozy Bloodhounds

These two are vital employees of Russian Hill Upholstery and Decor, a shop near where Autumn and I live (on Polk near Jackson). They may to the casual eye appear to be sleeping, but don’t be fooled: they are actually deep in thought about their next spectacular, award-winning interior decoration masterpiece!

(I have been meaning to post these two for ages, but I have had a terrible time trying to get the color balance right on these images. In the end, I’ve just given up. They look totally different, you’ll just have to live with it.)

Bloodhound

That level of concentration is hard for mere human beings to achieve.

Bloodhound

There's nothing that can relax like a saggy-faced dog.

Bloodhound

Perhaps we could call this position "a pile of bloodhound". Also, yes, that's Autumn in the background.
