Dog of the Day: Another Very Patient Australian Shepherd

I saw this dog, sitting patiently out in front of a local watering hole, paws calmly crossed in front of her, and I instantly thought, “I have seen her before. I know I have.” A blue merle (but with some brown) Australian shepherd, left eye blue, right eye brown, who sits out in front of places waiting patiently with her paws crossed. I was absolutely certain I’d run across that before.

So I went home and I looked around some and it took me a while, but I finally found her. Taken in December of 2011, posted in January of 2012. I don’t know what amazes me more: that I remembered having seen this dog before, or that this was in fact a different blue merle (but with some brown) Australian shepherd, left eye blue, right eye brown, who sits out in front of places waiting patiently with her paws crossed.

Look at that face. The coloration is just so gorgeous.

I can’t believe how unobservant I was. They both sit out in front of places with their paws crossed, but they have different ones on top! Duh.

Pretty big Aussie, with an unusual amount of floof.

Dog of the Day: Pomeranian Driver

I dunno, I’m all for canine rights, but I can’t help but feel that there may be some safety issues when your paws can’t reach the floor.

So in all seriousness… this doesn’t strike me as a good idea.

What do I know, I guess. I have never even driven a dog in a car. They certainly weren’t going fast.

Pretty adorable regardless.

Sunday Switchup: The Second Strangest Home I’ve Seen In San Francisco

I have probably walked by this building, Five Lusk Street, a couple hundred times in my years of working in SOMA. I have never, until last week, looked at it from the back, where it becomes apparent just how strange a building it actually is. From the front? Looks like a perfectly normal if ugly building. From the side? Ditto, or possibly double-ditto. But from the back?

A Very Small Flatiron Building In San Francisco

This is a condo. A 2300-square-foot condo. The end is too narrow for a normal door. And it might just be the ugliest dwelling I’ve ever laid eyes on. Not a single redeeming feature.

Caturday Supplement: Adopted Kit-in-a-Box

I was on BART today, riding on out to the East Bay, and I kept thinking I heard meowing noises, even over the sound of the train and the audiobook I was listening to. Honestly, I thought I was going a little nuts. And then I heard someone say to a little boy, “Yes, they have kittens!” And sure enough, there was a box full of little kittens, not far away.

I know, I know, it would have been a bad thing to have opened the box. But still. Kittens!

Melt.

Dog of the Day: Bernese Mountain Dog

I’ve been a bad boy: I disappeared from my blog without notice for three days. I can only plead a very busy week, work-wise, probably the busiest since I started this job almost two years ago. Next week promises to be much more reasonable.

Anyway. It’s Friday. Have a Berner.

Urban (dog) sprawl.

Ear-fur whipping in the wind.

Dog of the Day: Pug In Stripey Shirt

He only looks depressed. In reality, he was sitting on dad’s lap out in front of a really awesome pizzeria, and (it is strongly implied) getting his share of the pizza.

Quite a getup. I wonder what it looks like with the hood pulled down?

Sunday Switchup: Bentley the Black-Headed Caique

Look who I ran into while wandering Fillmore Street on Saturday! Bentley is a girl, and may well be older than you, at 27 years of age. I asked where the name came from, and her dad told me that he was warned that she was ‘high-maintenance’, so it seemed appropriate. Well, she’s not just happy wandering down a street in San Francisco, she’s also happy hanging out on a stranger’s finger for a minute or two, so I figure things could be worse. And so, it appears, does she.

Everything about her is gorgeous. Including those eyes. So pretty.

Caturday Supplement: Coy Kitty

He was snoozing in the tall grass and poked his head out when I walked by.

Tiger Tabby Cat In Long Grass

The stripe on the nose is quite unusual. Pretty too.

Dog of the Day: Charlie the Pomeranian

Charlie is 5, and was recently quite thoroughly shorn. Hope it all grows back in okay!

Leashes are such a hassle, especially when you have four legs.

Double Dog Day: Harvey and Maggie the French Mastiffs

The one in the blue collar is Harvey (1 year old), and the one who is completely crazy-goofy-dorable is Maggie, who is 3. Sometimes expectations are confounded.

Two French Mastiffs, One Looking Very Goofy Indeed

Talk about a handful. That’s even more muscle mass than a pair of Berners. They take off running and you aren’t going to stand still no matter who you are.

Two French Mastiffs

I think the gentleman walking these two was actually visiting from France. You have to admire the dedication of someone who would manage to bring these two along on such a trip.
