Dog of the Day: Betty the Blue Heeler/German Shepherd

Another Australian cattle dog mix, this time with German shepherd. What an unexpectedly gorgeous combination.

Australian Cattle Dog/German Shepherd Mix

Betty is a rescue dog, and pretty skittish around new people. Poor pup.

Blue Heeler/German Shepherd Mix

When I got within five feet, she didn't take her eyes off me. And eventually went and hid behind dad.

German Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog Mix

On the other hand, she would obviously do anything for her dad.

Australian Cattle Dog/German Shepherd Mix

See? Very attentive. Even moreso when food or a b-a-l-l is involved, I bet.

Australian Cattle Dog/German Shepherd Mix

What a gorgeous dog. Someone ought to paint her.

Dog of the Day: Hayden the Double Aussie Surprise!

(Pronounced ‘Hay Den’.) Half Australian Cattle Dog, half Australian Shepherd. So he likes sheep, cows, balls, his own tail, and everybody.

Australian Cattle Dog/Australian Shepherd Mix

The blue merle pattern on the fluffy coat? Gorgeous.

Australian Shepherd/Blue Heeler Mix

The fur is super-soft, too. This guy would make a good dog to bring with you when winter camping.

The camera took a little collateral 'lick' damage here, always a hazard when photographing dogs.

Dog of the Day: Bernese Mountain Dog

Sorry for the short post: having some technical difficulties. Trying out an EyeFi card, which is a SD card that offloads its photos via WiFi, and can also do geolocation on them based on the WiFi networks that are nearby.

The card itself is a marvel of engineering. It works flawlessly, and I’m really impressed.

The software that interfaces with it appears to be written in Adobe Flash, believe it or not. And is completely, comprehensively awful. I could write something more useful to me in about six or eight hours, if I had documentation. I could write something more useful to everybody in six to eight weeks.

On the other hand, I could go six centuries and I could still not write a program that was as useful (and adorable!) as this dog.

Bernese Mountain Dog

He looks like he's always up for cuddles, wrestling, or a quick nap.

Double Dog Day: Two French Bulldogs

Poor pups, tied up outside a yummy-smelling restaurant.

Two French Bulldogs

They were tied up right at the door, where they could nuzzle the ankles of everyone going in or out.

Two French Bulldogs

That might just be the expression they call 'the hairy eyeball'.

Two French Bulldogs

Just after I finished taking their pictures, these two swapped places, and resumed their guard duty, one looking in, the other looking out.

Dog of the Day: Verna the German Shepherd Mix Puppy

They don’t come much more adorable and fluffy than this gal right here.

German Shepherd Mix Puppy

Any day where this comes bounding into your life can't be all bad.

German Shepherd Mix Puppy

Fifty pounds of happy in a twenty-pound bag. And growing.

German Shepherd Mix Puppy

Super-fluffy? Check. Adoring beyond reason? Check. Smart as a whip? Check. (Well, I'm extrapolating there.)

German Shepherd Mix Puppy

In short, the dog to have with you if you're marooned on a desert island. Especially one where the nights are cold.

Dog of the Day: Bedlington Terrier

Autumn says that we’ve had one of these (most ridiculous of) dogs before, but if so, I must have spelled it wrong, because a search of my blog doesn’t turn it up.

Bedlington Terrier

I'm not a big fan of traditional poodle cuts, but if I had a Bedlington terrier, I'd probably give it their traditional haircut. I mean... It's so ridiculous. How can you not?

Bedlington Terrier

God, the ear-ploufs. Who in the world thought that up?

Bedlington Terrier

Looks like someone knows the 'Hokey Pokey'.

Bedlington Terrier

So do Bedlingtons not actually have binocular vision, with that giant floof in between their eyes?

Bedlington Terrier

This guy really likes curling his tongue. Half the pictures I have of him, he has his tongue out.

Dog of the Day: Boston Terrier Puppy with Bonus Terrier Mix

Another playful puppy for today, only this one is a lot littler and even less dignified-looking.

Boston Terrier Puppy

Yes, this is at the McKinley Dog Fest.

Boston Terrier and Terrier Mix

Talk about attentive. He just keeps staring at her tennis ball. You can tell he's going to be a heck of a retriever.

Boston Terrier

Hoverball!

Boston Terrier with Ball

He looks so amazed.

Boston Terrier

Mood swing! Let's hear it for dogs.

Dog of the Day: Keeshund

A keeshund, for your viewing pleasure. This one was quite eager to make my acquaintance, but finally let me take a few pictures before demanding to be petted. I guess I can understand, it must get awfully itchy under that much fur.

Keeshund

I would like to try brushing a keeshund. Once.

Keeshund

These were taken at the Dog Festival. You can tell from the expression, right?

Dog of the Day: Pit Bull Puppy and Golden Retriever/Bernese Mix

Not sure about the breed identification for the latter, but someone told me there was a dead black Bernese/Golden mix wandering around, and this gal looks like she fits the bill. The pit bull did get a little rough, as puppies do, but the Bernese seemed like she was enjoying herself immensely. Dad, on the other hand, was a little nervous.

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

The pit bull puppy decided that the Bernese mix looked like a fun playmate.

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

The Bernese wasn't entirely easy to convince.

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

I just love the expressions on the pit bull in these.

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

Totally ridiculous.

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

The little guy in the background is awesome too. Picks up the ball, spits it out, looks at it like, 'dude, this isn't nearly as much fun as they're having.'

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

Dad stops the play and calms things down a bit. For, oh, about 30 seconds.

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

The little one takes a brief time-out to verify that his tail is still firmly attached to his tuchus.

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

I love the crossed tails! I guess this is why he was checking his out.

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

This was pretty much the puppy's only tactic: get ahold of an ear, and then hold on.

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

The Berner tried reciprocating, but it didn't seem to work quite as well for her.

Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog Mix and Pit Bull Puppy

I think the pit is biting a bit too hard here... the Berner growled a bit, and I think he backed off slightly.

Dog of the Day: Smooth-Coated Collie

Not just our first smooth-coated collie on here, but the first one I’ve ever seen. Is it just me, or are they kinda funny-looking?

Smooth-Coated Collie

I think someone found something to eat that she shouldn't've.

Smooth-Coated Collie

After a couple of quick barks, she went back to nosing around in the grass.
