Double Dog (and One Human) Day: Boxer Puppy and Lab Mix

It was a relatively pleasant day, and this fine woman was out walking her dog (the Lab mix). No sooner did she sit down, however, than a boxer puppy came over to investigate.

The pup hopped right up on the bench with her...

...and climbed right into her lap.

Someone looks a little less gruntled than he might be.

Dog of the Day: English Bulldog

It was a real English Bulldog weekend this weekend. I must’ve run into a dozen of them. I’ll try to spread them out, so this doesn’t become ‘Bulldogs of San Francisco’ for the next two weeks.

English Bulldog

Such a plaintive look hidden in such a funny face.

English Bulldog

The word 'trundle' was practically made for English Bulldogs.

Dog of the Day: Reincarnation of Elvis

No, the dog’s name is not Elvis. And his dad wants me to mention that he did not buy this getup, it was a gift from someone who would never have to walk the dog in it. But hey, this is San Francisco… if you can’t dress your dog up in gold sequins here, you can’t do it anywhere.

Pug in Gold Sequins

I guess it's not as itchy wearing something like that if there's fur between you and it.

Pug in Gold Sequins

I think that qualifies as a smile, even if his tongue isn't out.

Curly at both ends, tongue and tail.

Dog of the Day: Watson the Dachshund/Chihuahua

A little fuzzy pup, recently adopted by two friends of mine, Tommaso and Lisa. They live in the East Bay, but Tommaso brought him to work so I had to drop by and take some pictures. Maybe next time I can get some outside, where the light would be better.

After great deliberation, and several changes of opinion, I finally think he’s probably some combination of long-haired dachshund and long-haired Chihuahua, although there could still be some corgi in him.

Whatever he is, he’s a real love bug. These pictures show a bit more attitude than he really has… if you see him and he has a look on his face that suggests that he’s plotting something, what he’s probably plotting is how to climb into your lap so he can lick your chin.

Chihuahua/Dachshund Mix

Yes, that is a giant white girder that divides Tommaso's cubicle in half. Also, if it looks like the pup is straining for something, well, that bag on the left is full of dog treats…

Dachshund/Chihuahua Mix

The ears are actually fully convertible. When you meet him, you think they're just like Labrador ears, but then he hears something and schwoop! They're up!

Half Chihuahua, Half Dachshund

There's his 'I'm plotting something' expression. I dunno, maybe he really is a little evil genius, but when I've been around him, he's always been quite polite.

Half Dachshund, Half Chihuahua

Now that's a goofy expression.

Dog of the Day: Pit Bull Terrier Chauffeur

Today, a study of the effects of taking pictures through windows.

On one of the Giants’ game days this week, I emerged from my workplace to find this guy waiting for me. (Okay, he wasn’t waiting for me. Although he did bark at me a couple times while I was taking pictures, so obviously he was willing to say hello.)

Pit Bull in a Stretch Limo

You can almost see him in there.

Neon is a terrible thing. There's enough of it along here that I couldn't find an angle that didn't have neon cutting through his face.

Pit Bull in a Stretch Limo

The windshield was so sloped that all I could get from it was glare from the blue sky. There literally weren't any other colors. I had to go black-and-white and even still, this is the best I could get.

Pit Bull in a Stretch Limo

Got close enough that I could avoid the neon, and got this rather unexpected effect: a dog half made out of brick.

Pit Bull in a Stretch Limo

It's actually a pretty neat effect. If I'd known I was getting it, I would have ducked down a bit more so his whole head was involved.

DoggiEvent: McKinley DogFest!

There’s apparently a bit of a shindig down at the McKinley School in the Castro, this Saturday (the 16th) from 11 AM to 4 PM. More details are available here.

Dog of the Day: Great Young Dane

Another dog from the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in San Francisco. This gal’s great, and is still in that awkward stage of adolescence. (As opposed to that equally awkward stage Great Danes have called ‘adulthood’.)

Young Great Dane

She's young, as I recall around 8 or 9 months old. So yes, she's going to get bigger than this.

Young Great Dane

She deserves a more elegant-looking bow, I think.

Young Great Dane

There were a few other dogs around, leaving messages.

Young Great Dane

Great Danes are ... huuuuuuuge!

Young Great Dane

Oh my god, the ears.

Triple Dog Day: Tableau

The guy on the left is a Bernese Mountain Dog. I’m not even going to guess at the other two. But this tableau did make me laugh out loud, so I thought I’d share it with you.

Bernese Mountain Dog Sniffing Butt

I'm really not sure what makes me giggle so much at this particular photo, when I have dozens of similar ones. It's just... goofy.

Dog of the Day: Border Collie Mix

This dawg was watching the Irish dancers at the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in San Francisco. She doesn’t look like she’s terribly into it, does she?

Border Collie Mix

Such a stoic expression.

Border Collie Mix

Here she looks like she's concentrating on a particularly knotty problem.

Border Collie Mix

She's almost got that half-mask phantom-of-the-opera thing going on.

Border Collie Mix

Oh, come on, now you're just being melodramatic.

Dog of the Day: English Bull Terrier

You’d think these guys would be more popular, what with them appearing in all those ad campaigns (Spuds McKenzie, the Target dog). And they seem quite pleasant, personality-wise. I have to admit, I think they’re kind of funny-looking, but I’m sure I’d get used to one quickly enough.

English Bull Terrier

Half-black nose. Looks like the rest might be prone to sunburn, poor pup.

English Bull Terrier

For some reason, they always make me think 'conehead'...
