Dog of the Day: Dachshund

A cutie from a couple months ago.

Two more pictures after the break.

Dachshund

Aww. Sleepy pup. I might've woken her up when she was basking in the sun.

Dog of the Day: Jennie the Golden Retriever

Jennie’s a lot of cuddles packed into a smaller-than-usual golden package. Autumn instantly fell in love with her, because she instantly fell in love with everyone within a fifteen foot radius. (Sometimes more.)

Five more pictures after the break.

Golden Retriever

A very sweet pup, but a stubborn one too. This is her refusing to go somewhere. Very good at the 'passive resistance' thing.

Dog of the Day: Border Terrier

Lazy late post for a lazy Labor Day.

We aren’t sure about this guy. The tail is kind of short for a border terrier: they have short tails, not nearly nonexistent ones. Maybe he’s a mix?

Three more pictures after the break.

Border terrier

I've seen this pup around a few times. Never seen fur with that texture on any other dog, before or since.

Dog of the Day: Mishka the Alaskan Malamute

First off, I’m sorry for the inconsistent quality of these pictures, but I just had to post him anyway, since he’s such an awesome dog. He’s very similar to one of the malamutes I posted around seven months ago (here), and could even be the same dog, though I don’t think so. (I think the markings look a little different, though it’s pretty hard to tell.)

The name is great too. Mishka is Russian for ‘mouse’, and although it means other things in other languages (and even, I believe, has a synonym or two in Russian, although I don’t remember my college Russian classes well enough to remember what they were) I choose to believe that this giant poofly dog is named ‘mouse’.

Finally, I have to say that this dog is very well trained, especially for a malamute: malamutes are very bright, but they’re too independent to be easy to train. Unfortunately, due to poor lighting, none of the pictures I tried to take of him doing tricks came out. Dammit, I AM going to get a better camera for low light: if anyone can recommend a decent small point-and-shoot for low-light, perhaps one of the ones with the somewhat larger sensor, please let me know in the comments.

So, all that said, there’ll be a couple more pictures after the break.

Wooly Alaskan Malamute

The blue background is a result of my attempted color correction. It's still not quite right... the pup has a little more brown in him.

Dog of the Day: Baxter the Alaskan Malamute/Australian Cattle Dog

A spotty dog, to go with a spotty evening. (No, I don’t know what that means either. It just feels spotty somehow.) The name is accurate, but the breeds are just guesses.

Another picture after the break.

Half-malamute, half-cattle dog

He had a big patch with no fur on his flank. Didn't seem troubled by it, or inclined to itch it or anything, though. Good dog.

Dog of the Day: Wheaten Terrier/Glen of Imaal Terrier/Lion Mix

Jesus Christ! It’s a lion! Get in the car!

We don’t really know what this guy is. He looks like he’s all terrier, and he has the face and fur of a Glen of Imaal, but he’s way too big. Wheatens are big, so…

Four more pictures after the break.

Terrier mix with lion cut

I dunno. I feel sorry for the dogs that get shaved like this, but at the same time, they do give me the giggles...

Dog of the Day: Siberian Husky

Apparently having one blue eye and one brown eye with a little blue in it, as this guy does (much more visible in the second picture) is called ‘partial heterochromia’. The More You Know™!

Two more pictures after the break.

Siberian Husky with Floppy Ears

He may not be a full husky: ears that flop are unusual, but not unheard of, for purebred huskies.

Dog of the Day: Shiba Inu

Another shiba, but this one is kinda unusual-looking. Apparently coloration like this pops up occasionally in shiba inu lines, and is considered a ‘major fault’. (‘Cream’ color variation, not recognized by any kennel club.) Don’t tell her that, though, because she knows she’s fine just the way she is.

A close-up, after the break.

Shiba Inu (Cream Variation)

I love the cream face with the brown ears.

Dog of the Day: Ein the Pembroke Welsh Corgi

It’s about time for another corgi. And this time we have Ein, a pup I’ve run into a couple of times now in different places. (Once along the Embarcadero, once in Chinatown.)

I heard that Ein had a twitter feed, but I didn’t catch what it was called and I can’t find anything terribly likely to be her. I do wonder if this is her linkedin profile, though.

Several more pictures, after the break.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Someone knows exactly which side of the bread the butter is on, and just who to suck up to.

Double Dog Day: Doofus and Pinky the Dachshunds

I’m not sure which one is Doofus and which one is Pinky. But given the way they acted, I think they both have a bit of doofus in them.

Two more pictures after the break.

Dachshunds

Not sure I've run into a cream-and-white dachshund before.
