Dog of the Day: Molly (Half Golden, Half Collie)

Another golden/collie mix, only this one they’re pretty sure about. (Although she might have some more in her besides just those two…)

Gorgeous gal I’ve run into a few times now: once in the Nob Hill area, and once out on the Embarcadero. (Second picture after the break.)

I can't think of a much better mix than golden/collie. Both dogs with such great temperaments.

Dog of the Day: Charlie the Finnish Spitz Mix

Another ‘I have no clue’ dog, but Autumn did have a clue on this one: she thinks it’s a golden retriever/collie mix, or maybe an Irish setter/collie. I have no idea. All I know is that I love this dog. He was tied to a fence along the Embark-bark-barkadero, and when I stopped to look at him he turned ‘the look’ on me. So hypnotic. Next thing I knew, I was rubbing his belly, with absolutely no memory of the intervening time.

Oh, and when I got home I discovered that all the dog treats were missing from my backpack. Which was even stranger, because I’d left my backpack at home.

Second, even more awesome, picture, after the break.

Edit: We’re now relatively sure that he’s a Finnish Spitz mix. Also, his name is Charlie, and he’s also featured here and here.

The words for fox in Irish are, literally, 'red dog' ('madra rua'). This must be the one they were thinking of.

Dog of the Day: Um… I dunno?

Well, I hate to say it, but this guy has me stumped. Look at all three pictures, including the head-shot, and give me your guesses.

Not only don't I know what breed this guy is, I can't even think of a good name for him.

Dog of the Day: French Bulldog

Today’s dog is another first for DoSF: a French bulldog.

French bulldogs are another breed that Autumn and I are somewhat conflicted about. On the one hand, they look goofy and not always cute and have the terrible breathing trouble and health problems that come with being a smooshy-faced doglet. On the other hand, they’re so friendly and happy… maybe not as much so as golden retrievers, but for a small dog they’re really nice.

So on the whole, we like them. But we don’t hang pictures of them in our apartment. This guy, though? He’s kinda cute for a French bulldog. (Second picture after the break.)

How can something look so goofy and so serious at the same time?

Dog of the Day: Australian Shepherd

Such cute dogs. But I always feel sorry for them. Seems to me that half the fun of being a dog is having a tail.

One more picture after the break.

I always wondered whether all that fluff wasn't a little uncomfortable on a warm day. But this guy's not even panting.

Dog of the Day: Lab Puppy!

I think it’s time for another lab puppy. We found this guy right in our neighborhood. He’s in training to be a seeing eye dog, although at the time we saw him, most of his training thus far had consisted of food and belly rubs.

The green on his ear is the side effect of a tattoo that all seeing eye dog trainees get, so that they can be tracked. It apparently washes out of the fur after not too long.

Two more super-adorable pics after the break.

He's at the teething stage, and his mom was running a bit low on things to let him chew on.

Dog of the Day: Wet Lab

This guy must have just been swimming down near the Hyde Street Pier and Ghirardelli Square: I found him on Polk Street in Russian Hill and he smelled like salt water. (And wet dog.) And that’s the closest accessible salt water to Russian Hill.

Another picture after the break.

Is it just me, or does he look worried about something?

Dog of the Day: Young Pug

Not quite a puppy, not quite a full-grown doglet. One thing this guy definitely is is super-cute. And if Autumn and I say that about a pug, you know it’s got to be something special, because by and large we think pugs are kind of… well… derpy.

Another puglet piclet, after the breaklet.

The tails are so ridiculous. Not shown in this picture: Autumn uncurling the tail and then letting it curl up again. Repeatedly.

Dog of the Day: Zoë the Dorgi

What an adorable dog! Zoë is a dorgi: a dachshund/corgi mix with a very sweet temperament and an inquisitive nature. Autumn took these pictures; sadly, I never got to meet Zoë.

Second picture after the break.

Dog of the Day: Border Collie (?)

We’re not sure what this guy was, since it’s been a while since we took the pictures, and none of them were much clearer than this one. But I think this one’s awesome anyway. It helps to know that this guy was galloping through the water and up onto the sand, chasing the globs of sea-foam that the wind was whipping right up the beach all the way to the dunes. He was having the time of his life.

Ah, there's nothing quite like the smell of wet dog in the morning.
